I've got 16 Sheps...the hardcore renegades make all the "bad" decisions just because I'm curious of the outcome. If you're only playhing one or two characters you may want to play it safe. ME is my fave game so I should be able to experience just about any outcome by the time I'm through with it. :)

16... Well it's not quite as "nutty" as 30, but I'm having enough trouble dragging myself through the 4th time lol. Better than ME1 though, that novelty wore off quite quickly with the blandness outside of the plot planets.

Having Legion I just don't see a point to Project Overlord. Whichever side I'm on.

Science is supposed to be guided by ethics.

Says who?  Society demands that science be guided by ethics because we don't want to get our hands dirty.  Were we to remove ethics from scientific research advancement would come much faster because we could take experiments much further.  For example many technological leaps in our history have come durring times of war, because we're willing to let ethics blur a bit in the name of victory.

Heh, if it is only the heretic Geth that are susecptible, by rewriting them, you might just undo everything they were attempting.

A part of me wonders if the Renegade outcome for Overlord was catered to those who sold Legion from the get go as selling him means that the virus would have never been stopped and all of the Geth would have been turned into Heretics.

Well with a brother that has autism in real life, there is no way in hell I let Dr. Archer keep him, in any playthrough even renegade. I wish I could of shot Dr. Archer more then anything, of course that's me. Or at least have him get his arse kicked more then just getting pistol whipped.

I agree with that. But like Shepard himself said it "At what cost?" Whether evolution and/or intelligent design; sentience and sapience should be considered gifts. We abuse that when we act like animals in our pursuit of progress. This is my opinion though.

Well, with evolution, sapience is the result of a natural process and so can't be considered a gift: just the results of random mutations and natural selection.  And its not over yet. To antropromorphize, mother nature is a **** and she's always trying to kill us.  Those who can't adapt, die and disappear.

Ethics are a luxury, for when nothing serious is at stake. But when survival is on the line, anything less than an all-out effort to survive means you're just one more evolutionary failure.

Now if only survival were actually on the line here, I might agree with you.  Instead we're just doing this on the relatively remote chance that the Geth attack us in full-scale war.

I know that people are probably going to post a link to the idealist fanatic (or whatever it is called) but what will you do after the big threat to your survival? Will you go back to being burdened by those hard hard ethics? Will you find other threats to our existance, will everything be so critical? This is the part where people will probably mock my ethics, but I am of the belief that it means nothing to uphold your ideals when it is easy, but to keep carrying that banner when it is hard to do so is the true measure of a person.

Technically, We are at war with the Geth right now. Its merely that they've run away after their defeat. It was just two years ago that the Geth attack in huge numbers, destroying 8 alliance and 20 Turian cruisers and possibly the DA and the council. And the Reapers are coming, the Geth may join them again.

Another reason to consider Overlord is this; if Admiral Xen can successfully control the Geth via her aim of returning them to the master control of the Quarian race, then Overlord becomes a pretty elegant dividing line that effectively reduces any sort of threat she represents.

I dont know about you, but I think Xen is crazy enough to be a threat.

Save David, he doesn't deserve what happens to him if you allow the experiments to continue.

MAJOR BUMP:

I'm currently at this point in the story with a renegade character, and it's a pretty hard decision. I sold Legion to Cerberus for similar reasons that I killed Wrex on Virmire: I didn't want my character to become sympathetic/an apologist for their species. When you recruit Legion, you inevitably start defending the geth far more and being indifferent to the non-heretic geth's past actions.

Anyway, removing Legion makes the Overlord decision far more difficult. What you know at that point is that the geth worship the reapers and have already killed hundreds of thousands at least within the last few years. Without something like Overlord, the only means to fight them is traditional combat.

The problem with keeping Overlord running, beyond the obvious ethical concerns, is how unreliable it has proven to be. It reminds me of letting the Architect keep doing his experiments on the darkspawn (Dragon Age reference). Both Archer and the Architect have proven to be incompetent. It just seems irresponsible to allow Overlord to continue despite the slim chances of averting a war.

And about ethics, on a moral level, the experiment is wrong. There are too many unknowns to declare it truly "necessary," but rather convenient.

Easy enough choice. Pretend you're in David's shoes and choose an option.

Guess which one you'll always pick...
