I'm late to the party, just finished ME1. Started up ME2 and I get a message that I can't connect to XBox Live (I think, sorry, not in front of my xbox now). Eventually I got past that, got my game imported, confirmed my questions, then realized that I couldn't save the game.
I didn't have any DLC on ME1, nor have I used the codes for Zaedd on ME2 or anything else.
Is it because I'm not currently connected to the internet? I don't expected to have a connection for another month or two. I am using the same xbox profile as I used for ME1. Any advice for getting around this and getting to play/save the game would be greatly appreciated.

Not being connected to the internet shouldn't prevent you from saving your game. After all, not everybody even has internet access.
Are you perhaps still on the Normandy? Saving the game is not possible until after the introductory sequence there is done and you wake up on the research station. Otherwise, the only thing I know of that prevents saving is the presence of enemies.
