Haven't finished my first play-through... but I'm already looking forward to my second! I am going to be Human Male Rouge.

Plan on maxing all the archer abilities unless some of them are useless, and taking Bard as a spec. What should my second spec be... if even take another? I'm going to dual wield as my secondary setup, so I was thinking duelist would be a good number 2 (but that would take abilities away from other options).

Also plan on  maxing dex, and going at least 20 on STR (want to keep armor light for him) and between 20-30 cunning. This be a good thing to aim for?

I would ask about a good loadout but having played through the first time it would seem the best options don't even drop until late on in the game so I find it pointless to worry about loadout.

Archers are kinda low damage until you get to Awakening, when they turn into mighty machines of ranged death. You may want to rethink the whole archery thing unless you're good with not doing much in the way of damage until level 26.

It's spelled rogue. Rouge is the French word for red. It's also a form of makeup.

Ranger is a good choice as a second spec for an archer the pet is pretty good as an extra party member adding to overall group dps

Kind of funny my spell check didn't catch it if it's a french word! lol

I plan on being a support member as a bard, and with scattershot. I don't think it's as weak as people make it out to be.

Ew, I like Ranger as a first Spec. for a Rogue. It might even be over powered. It allows you to off tank with a Ranger pet and allows you to bring along Zevran as DPS or Leliana as a Party buffer.

You need cunning of 22 for master stealth or 30 to open all locks. Even a dex archer will miss a lot so duelist is a great 1st spec - +10 attack at level 7 is very nice. Bard works best with a max cunning build but would still be a decent second spec. The only useful assassin talent for an archer is Mark of Death but it's a good one. I'm not a ranger fan but one handy use of a pet is to have them lead the party so that they are the one that gets crushing prisoned by enemy mages!

Shale is a great companion for an archer - her Rock Mastery mode, um, rocks. After my current solo mage playthrough, I'm planning a 3 rogue archers + Shale play.

Hmm, decisions, decisions. Now that I know Bard uses the cunning attribute, I don't want to waste that when I'm not going to be maxing that. At the most I'll do 30 but that might not be enough to take Bard. We shall see. There's always Leli...

That's because it isn't as weak as many make it out to be. Archers can be very effective, but you will be autoattacking most of the time since the talents take a loooooooooooooooooooooong time to activate.

Anyway, as an archer who focuses on dex you can't really go wrong with any spec imo.

Duelist is of course nice. +10 attack is always good and with keen defense yor are even better, but you will be staying away from the enemy so the added defense doesn't do much if you play in a smart way.

Bard songs use cunning as a modifier so a good amount of cunning would be ideal for it, but song of courage can still be good, but you could bring along lelianna instead and have her use a cunning build and enjoy the benefits from her and choose another spec.

Assasins also gets bonuses from cunning, but the 2, 3 and 4th talent there only deals with melee so you only need the first one there which is mark of death. That is an awesome talent though and frees up 3 points you can use on other talents like stealth or whatever.

Ranger can be very good with an archer. You will have one more melee unit to grap attention which will make life easier for you and it will take the enemy longer to take out your squad.

So they are all good in their own way really...mostly depends on how you want to play.
