As soon as the patch comes out it will be almost perfect. I had the 360 version and still bought the PS3 version and have been enjoying it quite a bit. Still, I'm irked about the missing content: Shiala, Conrad Verner, Gianna from Noveria, e-mails and news stories about SAVING the hostages on that asteroid that headed towards Terra Nova, Rana Thenoptis from Virmire, the results of helping Corporal Thoombs, e-mail from Corban (scanning the Keepers from ME1), e-mail from Shepard's mother, e-mail from Sha'ira, and all the missing dialogue that resulted from an ME1 playthough. Heh, it's mildly ironic. There was such a stink created from people who thought that the PS3 was getting preferential treatment. In the end, the PC and 360 versions of ME2, and by extension ME3, will be the ones getting the exclusive content, unless of course Bioware decides to release a DLC flashback pack for the PS3 version to remedy the problem. ;). Ah, a guy can dream, right?

Flashback DLC would be interesting.

I'm curious what legal loopholes might exist... sure ME1 is microsoft only, but does that establish copyright for the game as a whole and not necessarily it's individual parts? Could we become better acquainted with ME1 characters by reminiscing the past so long as we didn't get to play the events on the ME1 game engine?

It would be interesting to find out what legaleze is actually in play, and what workarounds might be available. I'm not a lawyer though, nor one familiar with the specifics of game publishing and production contracts... so I haven't the feintest what's possible.

I have been playing through Mass Effect 2 on my PS3 despite already owning it on Xbox 360 and I've got to say that I'm really enjoying it. I can't say the PS3 version looks any better but the big advantage it does have is the Genesis comic.

It potentially allows you to play through the game multiple times, each time having chosen different options from the interactive comic. This is something that Xbox gamers wouldn't be able to do unless they have multiple ME saves to import. So far this feature more than makes up for the lack of that personalised experience 360 players get in my opinion.

I dont own a playstation nor have I played that version, but I have to disagree with you on that last part. All the options you get to choose in the comic are also available when you start a new game in ME2 on the PC or the Xbox. Just not in a fancy suit like the PS3 has with the comic. Nothing new is added when it comes to that, just a little backstory. Which for players who own ME on the PC or Xbox is already well known.

I'm not sure about that Daryst, I recall that I once started a new Mass Effect 2 game ignoring my import Shepards. The opening sequence declared that the council had died which I found surprising from a default story as normally good = default.

I can't remember which crew member died, pretty sure it was Kaiden as I think I saw Ash at the beginning. Don't know whether it assumes she was a love interest. Also, doesn't default assume that Wrex died on Virmire?

I will have to take a look at that and get back to you, but I was fairly sure about it. Could be wrong ofcourse ;).

If I remember correctly, the default choices for ME2 are.

Wrex = Dead

Male Shepard = Kaiden dead, Ashley lives, Female Shepard = Ashley dead, Kaiden lives

Council = Dead

Udina on the new council

I think that we are both partially right. When you start a new game in ME2. There will be a few fixed settings. Like the state of the council, but you will be able to alter a few things during the questioning from Miranda and Jacob. But I have to again. Double check that. Not at home at the moment and the interwebs isn't that clear to be honest.

No, you can't, with one exception. And it's only on the PC/360 and only with an ME1 import: the special import save doesn't record your choice of Councilor, so Miranda will ask you who you chose.  For a non-import new game, you have no opportunity to alter the defaults whatsoever.

Oke, that cleared it all up.Good to Finally know, never started a blank game my self. The choices in the comic are the same in the summary when you import a game though.

Do you think the interactive comic will stay PS3 exclusive considering its versatility in terms of playthrough differences?

how are they going to implement prevoius choices in mass effect 3 for people who were failures as a commander (you know what happens to failed commanders) or for those who simply didn't buy 1 or 2?another interactive comic?

i've got one gripe about the game, how is it that on the 360 version you keep our armor and everything, but on the Ps3 you have to start from scratch?Image IPB

once you beat the game and import i mean

If your
commander died you won't be able to import that save game. You will
start with the the deafult Shep in ME3. Same as on  Xbox and PC for ME2.
What happens is "New Character" and then you can choose male or female
and you get a set of default settings to play the game with.

Probably has to dow ith the save game issues the PS3 has been having since it was realeased. Flags are probably not being set to "Has this" when you import  for a new game+

Don't quote me on it though.

Wanted to add one thing, upon completing the game... the last two or three hours of the game are great, not too heavy handed in the drama, but compelling. Not impossible to finish, but rushed and challenging. Great finish.

I've read about the upcoming patch for the game but unfortunately it doesn't fix all the main bugs. The bugs and problems that are fixed are the save corruption bug (really important bug) and the long loading times. Unfortunately the following bugs will remain:

-On the Overlord map where you control the Hammerhead, there are huge ugly pixels on the grassy ground.

-On the Overlord map where you control the Hammerhead, sometimes the Hammerhead goes through the ground.

-Sometimes the audio is out of sync.

-Sometimes Shepard is left floating in mid-air unable to move. The only solution is to load a previous save.

Please Bioware continue fixing the game because it is a pity such a magnificent game to have these bugs.

Thought it was a great game, on my second play through now, wish the first had been released for it. Wished i could have spoken to characters a bit more to get to know them, and could have been slightly longer but all in all i really enjoyed it. great story to it like DA and i can see why it could be a movie

Hi all

I just suscribed to the forums to leave my 5 cents. Hope in some time some developer read this. Havent tried ME1 but went to ME2 directly on PS3. Ok here it goes:

-To me, the game is nearly perfect. I am enjoying greatly the storyline, the action, the chars are very solid and incredibly well built. And, in comparison with other sagas, i dont get bored and instead play time after time.

-I wish this saga never ended. Im sure developers can make up more storylines to keep the action going on. You dont even need to be shepard always the hero. The universe you guys at Bioware have created is too big and complex to need a single hero. I wont make any spoilers but i can think of additional storylines to keep the story going after ME3 (assuming that the developers didnt already think about them). So please dont go for the classic trilogy approach: im sure noone will complaind if you make it to ME7!.

Possible upgrades for ME3, sorry if it was already said:
-The way of getting resources via probes is kinda tiresome. Im sure you guys can make a mixture between the ME1 and ME2 way of doing things, i.e. you check previously with the probe if there are any resources and then you decide if it's worth it to explore with the MAKO.

-I wish the game was a bit more open in terms of what actions you can make, such as in Fallout 3 or similar games. Even though the universe is incredibly rich, you still cant go crazy and shoot everyone on the Normandy, u know what i mean.

This said, thank you guys on Bioware. Im having a hell of a good time with this game, one of the best i have ever played (and i am a Spectrum-era player!). Dont let the saga die.

Regards.

Overall I would say the PS3 version is solid in the gameplay department.  The controls work well and the the visuals look very good.  The comic was pretty good, however, it would have been nice if at the very least Conrad Verner, Gianna Parisini, and Shiala could have been worked into the back story some how considering that their presence in the game adds some different situations into the game.  PS3 players will never get the discount at the store on illium or know what it feels like to shoot Conrad in the foot, just sad.

There were some problems with the game.  The cut scenes, at least for me, were almost always out of sync with the audio.  Vanguard charge is still problematic, there could be nothing in between you and a target over level ground and you "Can't get a lock".  It never really worked perfectly on the xbox either though.  The normandy load times were pretty long too but I suppose that it makes up for it since I don't have to disc swap 2 times during the game.

I can honestly say I'm happy with it.

i second that.i played ME1 on my lousy laptop to catch up before ME2 was released on the ps3.while i think the comic is great,i did feel left out when i saw the missions that were related to conrad verner and gianna parisini being played out on other platforms.even more if they reappear in ME3.otherwise,it is probably one of the best games i have ever played.if it had a few more hours on it,it would have been the best game but then again you always want more of a good thing.especially when its that good.

I signed up cause i just had to say how much i liked Mass Effect 2 on Ps3. It was my first expirience with mass Effect and I was not dissapointed. I did alot of reading in the Mass Effect Wiki to update myself on events of mass effect 1. So im familiar with the story. I was a bit dissapointed that the PS3 version omitted certain characters and scenarios such as Shiala, Conrad, and Gianna... but that aside. I have no regrets purchasing the PS3 version of the game. I just finished Dragon Age: Origins clocking in at 150h, between the full game and DLC. So I decided to play mass effect 2 while I waited for Dragon Age 2. And I got much more then what I expected. because its also a great shooter on top of being an RPG, offering a very differant expirience.

However I hate DLC. I usually wait for game of the year or ultimate editions to come out. I like to have the content on disc. Thats why I opted for the PS3 version of Mass Effect2 and Dragon Age: Ultimate Edition.

And aside from a small amount of omitted content, I feel that for a PS3 owner who doesnt want to get an Xbox for one game the PS3 version is well worth the 60 dollers. And believe me, I buy very few games at full price.

Feedback! Awesome.

First the comic.... I love comics, but I think it sucked. Let me explain why: it didn't do enough to explain things to those who've never played Mass Effect 1 before. (Like myself).

A couple of the choices in the comic were just presented basically as: I could do this... or I could do that. CHOOSE. But they were completely without context, so how could anyone make an informed choice? The 1st playthrough I had, I made choices that I turned out didn't agree with... which is okay if I'm doing that ON PURPOSE. But I had to go to Youtube and watch an entire playthrough of ME1 to finally get the context of my choices.

For example, killing the Rachni Queen. The choice was presented as: Her people are dangerous and they threatened the galaxy before. On the other hand, I could free her. Well duh, I executed her. Lost in the context was that she was a sapient being who was helpless behind a dome and begging to be freed.

Or with choosing either Udina or Anderson. In the comic, the choice was presented as "both were good leaders in their own right." Yes, but Udina was a douche who sold you out to the Council and grounded your ship, and Anderson risked his career to fix things. When you understand that, the choice becomes clearer.

The comic also missed out on major issues, like Shepard's encounter with Geth over and over again, the Mu Relay, etc. I know you don't want people going through a comic for 30 minutes, but this comic was just way too streamlined. Anyway, I don't know how to fix that problem, since the game is so huge and so many choices could be made.

But maybe instead of a comic, use actual scenes from the game or gameplay. I really couldn't make out what was going on in the comic at times, like when Sovereign clamped down on the Citadel... Take out key scenes from the story from the gameplay and then give the choices. In any case, I appreciate the effort.

The game itself was awesome. Again, up until now I haven't played a ME game. It was a thrilling and addicting experience. The scale and epicness of it was... well epic. I can't nitpick any non-technical aspects of the game... I'd say in the character creator, have the Shepard blink so that we can see what s/he'll look like when they're blinking. And make it easier to see all angles of Shepard's face so we don't get any "surprises" once we're done with the Character Creator, because it takes about 30 minutes to start up a new game if we're not happy with the look.

And on that note, PLEASE LET US SKIP CUTSCENES! For those loser kids out there that skip cutscenes even before they've played the game once... that's their problem. But for those of us who've played it 4 times and want to play again, do we really need to see the initial speech with Miranda and the Illusive Man? Let us skip cutscenes in the beginning and maybe a longer "comic" or whatever would be worth it.

The mineral mining game was kinda addicting. I didn't really have a problem with it. I would ask that for ME3, I hope there's even more interaction with the characters. ME2 felt too much like... Go to a planet for a crazy space adventure, go back to your ship and chill. Rinse and Repeat. The best parts of my 1st playthough were when wrenches were thrown into the formula: ie. the Horizon, Collector Ship missions. Forced missions brought you out of the comfort zone and kept things fresh. More of that, please!

About the technical issues: the audio sync is disconcerting. I'm glad the dialogue is actually in sync all the time, but even so, the dialogue audio sometimes cuts out before the end of the sentence. These are all things that could be rectified to make a truly genius title even better.

I've encountered some freezes, but as long as my games don't get corrupted I'm cool.

In any case, you've probably heard a lot about certain technical issues about the PS3 port, so I'll leave it to the "experts" over at that forum.

Oh, and being able to play the Liara, Kasumi and Zaeed missions was a real plus. The Shadow Broker mission was especially epic. I heard it was a DLC, but when I played through I was pretty surprised at how big it was.

So yeah, those are the problems and props I had for the game. Make sure ME3 is released for PS3 this time!
