So do I understand that neither the comic nor the DLC advertised on the box as included is included on the disc and has to be dl'd? I do not have access to high speed internet and so no way to get what I was promised / paid for. Can someone please confirm? Sorry I know this is not quite on topic.

Thanks for the reply. I already have the game and am still looking forward to playing it. Will I be able to catch up with what is going on w/o the comic(i.e. just starting a new ME2 game) or do I need to read a wikipedia entry or some such?

I, for one, thought it was great, but the issue with the lack of backstory was disappointing. Every now and then, some frames on the game would pause or skip, but that may just be my PS3. The controls were good and graphics were among the best I've seen. I'd recommend it to pretty much anyone.

thought id pitch in, played a couple of rounds of the intro but backed off til the patch is out, it looks quite a bit sharper i remember on the pc, loved the comic really tied in nicely though i have played me1 so my impression is probably different to someone s who hasnt. A peeve was definitely not having all the free dlc on disc, but i see the logic, currently waiting for patch rwlease to really get my teeth into it. Definitely mostly positive though wish you had made the illusive man's cigarette ash more realistic lol talk about nitpicking :) the main thing iwant see fixed tho is shep getting stuck on rails n crates, but yeah nice one Bioware!!!

I played the PC version through twice, did most things, one of my favorite games of all time. I'm in the beginning on the PS3 version, so far recruited Mordin and Garrus. Some of my thoughts on what I'd love to see improved in ME3 PS3 version:

- The turning speed should be faster, especially when not aiming the weapon.

- I should be able to change which button does what. For example. R1 is the shoot button, so in my head, the right side is the weapon side. I should be able to map R2 to be the button to change weapons. Why does almost no console games allow button remapping?

- On PC I didn't mind planet scanning at all, I see now why 360 players hated it. It moves far too slowly, and the vibration is just annoying.

- I am in a conversation, I press X to choose an option. This is the third time I've been in this conversation, so I skip the voice, apparently it's the square button. "YES!", I say to myself. "The problem the PC version has where the skip button is the same as the choose button has been fixed", I thought... but it hasn't. Why?! Why not let X be the choose button, and square ONLY the skip button? I cannot count the number of times (on PC version) that I intended to skip, but because the options popped up just before I pressed, I ended up choosing instead.

Just finnished my assembling my team and so far this game is pretty damn exciting and I'm not use to playing this genre ( sword and dragons) is my thing but my son who has it on his 360 convinced me to play it on our ps3. The controls are smoother and the graphics are so superior to the 360 my son is actually wanting to replay on the ps3. You really have to investigate and talk to every NPC to get around in this world( people say this is a shooter w/rpg elements) my ass it is . The love interests( so far ) is'nt played out as openly like DA where that game you can buy gifts and the romance track seems to move much faster than ME. And thats not a bad thing it just seems that it is not a part of the game at all. I will post more when I finnish this most excellent game

I love the ME series, ME2 is the best game I've ever played, as is DA:O in the D&D genre, love them both because the story is so well done and deep, unlike other games, the battle is fun and exciting, the romance options make it all the more interesting, however I was a little disappointed by the romance options in ME2 compared with DA:O.. I hope there are more choices in ME3 for romancing different characters...

all in all ME2 is my game of choice.. it just came out on PS3 not too long ago and I've already played through the game 5 times and have 2 Sheps going right now... lol I can't get enough of this game, even though I already know the story I keep creating new Sheps and replaying it over and over to see everything and what amazes me is how much it can change from playthrough to playthrough... I'm still seeing new stuff with every playthrough and I think overall that is what I love the most about Bioware games, the replayability of the games is just outstanding... other game devs should grab a clue from Bioware and make their games more interesting.. You guys rock!!

The most disappointing part was the dark horse comic. Bioware would have been better off just releasing ME1 & 2 together (I really want to play ME 1, but I don't know if I want to get a 360 just to play one game). Also, I found the game to be unstable when played for a long period of time (5+ hours), it usually freezes once every few days.

Besides those two problems, I absolutely love ME 2, it ranks as one of my all time favorite games. I am currently doing my second run, this time on hardcore mode, and the game is just as much as it was when I first played it.

I have both the 360 and PS3 versions.

While I am enjoying the PS3 version a lot - I have to say that the comic was a real let down.

  • Firstly, it is poorly written. Whenever a decision is presented there is simply not enough background provided to allow players to make informed choices. If I hadn't played ME on the 360, I'd of had no idea what the hell was going on. Seriously. It lacks a lot of the nuance. I strongly recommend that Bioware checks out Yakuza 3 as an example of how to do a recap video. Yakuza's storyline is considerably more convoluted than Mass Effect, but within 20 minutes of their recap video, I understood all the major plots, relationships and personalities. Best of all, this is all presented with maximum efficiency of dialogue and scenes. Mass Effect: Genesis fails to deliver the same level of information in approximately the same amount of time. And to stress, that 20 minutes covers two whole games that together run almost double Mass Effect's length.
  • This second one will be controversial with many Mass Effect forum members - the romances. Now I'm a gay gamer, and I definitely have been pissed off at Bioware's attitude regarding the whole gay Shepard situation. Now I'm not going to go into that argument here - the thing I want to bring up is that at least with Mass Effect I was able to refuse both Liara and Ashley and fill in the gaps with my Shepard being gay and having an unrequited love for Kaiden. It even works in ME2 with Kaiden's dialogue sounding remarkably romantic. That wasn't the best - and I still feel that ME3 should have a pay off for players who saved Kaiden and didn't romance Ash or Liara (after all, that should take care of the whole "I don't want to end up being gay by accident" argument) - but what pissed me off about the comic is that it makes Shepard straight. The default is love for Ashley and just a case of whether to admit it now or wait for the mission to be over. That was a real slap in the face for me, as a player. It's a minor issue for most people - but as a gay gamer, that is worse than just not having the option. As I said, I think Bioware have handled the whole gay argument very poorly - and this just felt like a direct insult to gay gamers.
  • The Rachni Queen - this is REALLY bad writing. In Mass Effect, there was a lot of information about the Rachni when you meet the queen. A lot of information about indoctrination and why the Rachni went to war. There wasn't even an attempt to summarise that discussion. Instead there is a crappy "The Rachni were monsters. Should I free them or not?" Who the hell wrote this thing, because they clearly don't know how to effectively summarise a storyline.
The biggest flaw with the comic is lack of sufficient detail. It paints too broad a picture, to the point of being no better than reading the back cover of Mass Effect. Hell, Wikipedia has a better summary.

Overall, the port has been brilliant, and I love the look of the Mass Effect 3 engine. I'm really keen to see ME3. But as far as the comic goes, what may have seemed like a good idea ended up being a let down in many ways. The fact that you need to be familiar with Mass Effect still to be able to make informed decisions is an example of how bad it really is. :(

All the rest, though, still pure awesome. :)

No explanation that you NEED a internet connection to access the comic was a pretty big kick in the crotch for me. Why should I as a paying customer miss out on content, just because you did not have the decency to tell me.

If I am wrong could you please give me the instructions to install it on the ps3 without a internet connection on my ps3

Bioware needs to add the ME1 cameos like Parisini, Conrad, etc. otherwise ME3 on the 360 will be the superior version by default because the 360 will have more dialogue from those people. It just disgusts me that they removed this with no good reason....Bioware, I hope you read this and make a patch that will include all ME1 cameos. I plan on getting ME3 for PS3 instead of 360 and I'm not gonna buy another game of yours once the ME trilogy is over if this isn't resolved. I'm already not gonna buy Dragon Age 2 because I won't be getting a complete game since I can't get the Signature edition when I found about it a few days ago.  That killed ANY and ALL  of my desire of getting Dragon Age 2...I won't tolerate BS like that by ending signature edition pre orders 2 months before release and getting an incomplete version of the game.

It's unlikely that ME1 cameos will return for ME3. The ME1 comic pretty much confirms what carries over, and ME2 has a bunch of side quest characters that will most likely be there in ME3.

Well Im going to be very nice and give a really positive and lively response to this thread.

I had no idea what Mass Effect had instore for me whatsoever, In fact the last Bioware game i really liked was the original KOTOR and then semi-liked Dragon-Age.

In my late High-School years (Im from New Zealand) i started to read some of Drew Karp's "Darth Bane" books (The final in the Trilogy is one i have yet to complete/ Currently totally sidetracked by Mass Effect:Relevations). and more recently was interested in the Mass Effect story, I was recommended to play the first game before the second hit on PS3 so i did.

I went ahead and made the effort to play the first game on 360 (Through Usage of the flatmate's console) and for someone who considered Metal Gear Solid to be a great story...was utterly blown away by ME1 and was totally amping up for the second chapter in the trilogy.

One week later passes and after completing ME2 i will say the following pros and cons.

Pros:
-Easily re-created my Commander through the Comic and maker and was pretty much picking up where i left off. I was worried about this but you guys nailed it completely to the wall.
-Was enthralled by the constant omininity (For lack of a better word) of how serious Shepard and his team were becoming as the plot progresses and how utterly mad the end of the game becomes...Kojima had nothing past the story telling of the Omega 4 Relay.
-All the characters i felt i had become more attached to and seeing previous ones like Kaiden and Liara (Previous Romance) was heartfelt and knowing DLC like Lair of the shadow broker can become 'Personally' a Love tale DLC just gets me really excited.
-The soundtrack for the game was amazing and it really envokes memories of my playthrough and hits home with the all the characters and the memories i had come to share with all of them.
-The choice making and choices made previously were magnificent to see and for my flatmates who had played this previously were also enthralled nearing the end of the game as to how i would play it out/ act and react and ultimately who would live and who would die. (Just saying that is just a real big point for me)
-And finally i will simply say, in terms of story-telling and plot ME2 is really revolutionary in its un-veiling and would only wish for this to continue into ME3 and maybe even more in the future.

Bioware and Drew/Marc are Legends in Mortal form.

And here comes the Cons :(

-Sound overlays particularly on moments listed
 - First YMIR encounter
  - Recruiting the krogan, parts are out of sync
 - Kasumi Goto's Loyality mission also has parts of audio out of sync
Main parts of the game involving the collectors seem to be fine but smaller aspect missions are obviously and notably out of sync, to get this fixed would be nice.

-In the comic (as noted) i noticed the lack of the Thorian which i thought was a more important part of Mass Effect 1, it would be nice to have this come up or referenced more clearly.

-This is more for the peeps in line for ME3, personally i would like Liara to return to the team (we were lovers and therefore for someone who likes being a one-woman man would like to not be punished for staving off Jack and Miranda for holding true to the real romance carried over from one, seeing a romantic return would be nice). Also having Kaiden return as a brother in arms alongside the ME2 would be a VERY much appreciated gesture to the fans from the start and those who make the effort to play the first or research Kaiden throughly.

Besides that i would also agree on adding back in the other characters integral to the first game simply so i have more to re-visit and therefore expand the game further .

Other than that, this game has been truly a piece of art for me, if PS3 owners had a collectors pack i would have taken my standard back after completion and paid top dollar for an upgrade.

Totally looking forward to any word of a "Final Stand" Mass Effect 3 Option for the likes of $360 NZD, because it is simply the game of 2011 i would drop $400 gladly on.

Thank you.

Well the PS3 doesn't have a space bar, try pressing x on your dualshock 3 instead. Switch your pc off if you are getting confused.

I am loving ME2. This and ME1 were the only reason I considered getting an xbox but I'm glad I waited. The screen tearing in demo had me nervous but it is gone. Just an excellent game and the fact that I can play an rpg that doesnt constantly crash is just amazing. Bioware as always you have done an excellent job. I can't wait for ME3 and DA2.:D

The comic wasn't the best. Lots of important information was missed but you can't make a comic go on for 1 hour just to fit it all in. It goes on for 15/20 mins anyway. Luckily I played through the first game so I knew most of the story already.

I'm not sure if it was just me or not but I got stuck behind the nerdy gamer alien in the Citadel and other objects and one time I couldn't even talk to Liara. Also playing through the VI missions the colour disappeared and I was left with a black screen and green and purple lines. I had to save it and restart the entire game again. As well as the odd freeze.

Besides those minor and rare glitches the game itself was 200% better than the first. As for the gayrelationship comment. They didn't include it because they would have got more negative feedback than positive. Why? because a lot of people still don't agree. People had a go at those love scenes from the first and there was nothing wrong with them.

Hello BioWare,

Not sure if my input will be of any use to you chaps, but hear goes...

Controls : Being a former 360 owner, the one thing they did design well was the pad. The PS3 pad is too small for the average set of claws(er, I mean hands), but the control layout for ME2 on the PS3 pad was perfect.

Comparrisons between format : This was one of the only downsides to the PS3 for me. Having experienced this game on 360 with multiple playthrough, I feel the 360 owners get a better story experience, mostly because they/I had the chance to move a full ME save over to ME2. Doing this gave you far more insight as to what happened during ME, thus making ME2 an even better experience. This point can only be be taken into consideration for PS3 gamers who pre-experienced the ME2 game on other formats after using an ME save. For gamers who experienced ME2 first hand on PS3, then I guess it's not so bad.....

But I do get a feeling we will miss somethings in ME3. Unless of course everything but the 6 plot changes were dealt with in ME to ME2.

Dark Horse comic : This for me was a great addition. Brings PS3 gamers up to speed, and makes multiple playthroughs even better. On 360 if I wanted a new love interest on ME2 from ME. I would have no choice but to put in 30+ hours back into ME, so that I could see the difference on ME2. For things like this the comic was an excellent touch. Nice work DH and BioWare. The only reason the first ME became old to play, was because the new gameplay feel for ME2 was everything that needed improving from ME.

Bugs : Theres nothing game breaking in their, but there does seem to be more bugs in the PS3 from what I ever encountered on 360. Ipressume this is to do with the new engine, as well as new console version?
Bugs that I have encountered so far have been...
Cutscene glitches - Mostly happens on Wrex's headbutt scene.
Game freeze - luckily for all 6 of my PS3 playthroughs, the game has not froze during an autosave resulting in a corrupted save file. I guess switching off autosave might be a good idea.
Air Shepard - On occassion when running and moving the cam, it has resulted in Shepard lifting off the groung and having to reload a previous save.
Cabin picture - no doubt this has already been brought to you attention .
Like I said there is nothing game breaking in there, and nothing that can't be sorted with a reload. I'm just so happy that BioWare & EA brought ME2 to PS3. It really was hard giving up ME when I moved from 360 to PS3 , but thanks to you guys I now feel so grateful to you all. ME is the gaming experience I was ment to play.

Sorry if this all comes out messy, I can only use the PS3 for forum use, and typing with a joypad ain't easy.

Thank you again BioWare. I wish you all the very best for the future. Job Well done, Mr Priestly.

The comic does not realy give enough info on the choises you have to make. It hangs once or twice every long play session. Fortunately the auto save feature is your savior in these instances so you never have to replay to much. Still no corrupt save files for me and I'm on my fourth playthrough. There are also the times when you step onto a rock (or the fire in Jacobs loyalty quest) and can't get down, running aroud in the air, has happend maby 5 times sofar.

What I would like though for ME3 is more banter between characters. And about 20 more lines of dialogue from each of the characters on the ship. That would lead to 5-10 more short conversations. Mostly needed for after the suicide mission. After the first comment about the mission they all act like before the mission. Your love interest acts like nothing has hapend yet. Great that you can invite them to your cabin but talking to them kind of breaks the timeline. Same with Liara.

Just saying it would be nice if it was more like with Leliana in DA where you can tell her you love her and hear it back. I was actually looking forward to combing space for the last stuff in peace and quiet after the big fight was over. But that part is a bit broken since it's like the rest of the crew are stuck in time.

And the poor doctor... After your drinking session she is like a zombie for the rest of the game with no new dialogue! :(

I'm not sure if the following feedback will be useful at all or if it will be on-target, but I'm in the middle of a PS3 playthrough and have some concerns to share about the port so that ME3 can become a better product. For additional reference, I both own and play ME2 on the 360 and the PC, but I've been using the 360 version as a baseline for my experiences below.

1. I notice some graphical clipping errors at the edges of the screen when turning. This occurs in all zones. A thin slat of white space will pop on/off repeatedly when turning.

2. There are odd and inconsistent frame rate drops (not severe, but noticeable), when moving. A good reference point would be the Normandy, in which moving around is not smooth and feels jagged.

3. When some of the doors slide open on Illium, a space graphic is displayed for a half-second.

4. The aim-assist (sticky-targeting) is off and locks onto enemies from half an inch away on my 27" widescreen TV (size given for reference). When sniping and in slow-mo as a soldier, it's alarming. While this issue existed in the 360 version, it's way off now and makes precision aiming in certain zooms very difficult.

5. Some of the lighting changes rapidly and unexpectedly. On Korlus, when passing through the caves while fighting the Krogan, if you take the left path the lighting will go from lit to dark to lit as you approach the staircases. This is the most dramatic lighting change I've seen, but it exists elsewhere to a lesser degree.

6. The increase in bloom lighting washes out many textures. On the 360, it was almost too bright as well, but it never interfered with the visual fidelity. There are quite a few modders on the PC who lowered the brightness even further as an aesthetic preference, but I didn't understand their reasoning until I played the PS3 version and saw what even slightly increased bloom lighting does.

7. I've had an issue with melee in this version where I clip through enemies and my swings go unregistered.

8. When using the L2 and R2 triggers, there's sometimes a massive delay before the other is registered. For instance, if I select a biotic power, release the R2 trigger, then hit the L2 trigger, that press is not always recognized. Vice versa for a weapon switch into a power. If the button is held, it takes 2-3 seconds before recognition. If released and re-pressed, it instantly activates. This is a sporadic issue and has only occurred while I've been in combat.

9. The interaction/object indicators now clip through walls. You can see these indicators in the next room and through walls, doors, etc. Very, very annoying.

The PS3 version in places looks even better than the PC version, the characters look especially good and certain areas look better than the other two versions. I've got a 120gig ps3 slim playing over hdmi and sound through the tv, I've had none of the lost save game/voice out of sync errors.

I've had less clipping errors than on the xbox version although I got caught on the scenery on Lotsb waiting for liara's program to open the door and had to reload to get past.

The back story comic was an inspired choice to cover the ME1 and should be released on the PC/Xbox to save people having 25+ hours playthoughs to get the story arcs they want. However I felt that the Dark Horse artwork wasn't up to the standard of their work in the Redemption/Evolution comics.

The only major issue I have is that having the comic gives us the opportunity to make the major plot choices in the game but having played the other versions I miss the minor choices such as

The Asari consort

The fan

Tali side quest

Thorian

and all the other little choices that either opened up different conversation options in ME2 or just came in as a little message on the private terminal, I know it's a small thing but it adds greatly to the feeling of being part of a living universe.

I know it's a bit late but to included them but I'd have set the small choices up as a simple paragon/renegade option into the DH comic or as an option at the end.

Others have covered the small glitches that occur so I'll not list them here although the loading times are annoyingly slower than on the xbox, I'm very happy with the PS3 version and having all the story DLC included on disk was great and the pricing of the paid dlc was fair.

Thanks CP & Crew happy ME fan here.
