The game looks and controls much better on the PS3, in my book. Then again, I hate the XBox controller in general so that's partially to be expected.

I wish there was an option, like in Dragon Age, to set the weapon/power menus to toggle open/closed rather than needing to hold down R1/R2.

I'm very disappointed in the intentionally misleading box art. The back of the box says:

INCLUDES:

- Full Mass Effect 2 Game

- INTERACTIVE COMIC BOOK

- Three bonus missions

Then further down the box, it says:

Activate the Cerberus Network to access more free content.

This clearly implies in the strongest way possible that the comic is on-disc and not something one has to access the CN to use.

That kind of baldfaced dishonesty is reprehensible.

So far, I'm liking the PS3 version but I have to say that a few things have really disappointed me. First, the fact that the interactive comic doesn't even cover the Geth and the related events on Feros and the option to save or destroy the colony. Same problem with the lack of an Asteroid X57 section to have an impact on whether we save the hostages or not to go after Balleck. Then when I was playing the Project Overlord section I noticed during the Hammerhead portions that the grassy fields were a pixelated mess. Not good. Then there were the missing characters: Rana Thanoptis, the Asari Shiala from Feros, Giana from Noveria, Conrad Verner on Illium, Fist and Helena Blake on Omega, just to name a few. Them being missing regardless of whether you played the interactive comic REALLY irked me since I liked them so much, especially Shiala. I hope this doesn't mean that they won't be making any return appearances in Mass Effect 3. That would be more than a little depressing. Never really took for granted how playing the original affected the sequal's characters and dialogue until now. Makes me wish that the feature to import a Shepard from the PC version of ME1 was even considered an option. Last gripe I had was the fact that there were a few missing achievements from the Lair of the Shadow Broker section. Other than these glaring disappoints and the glitches carried over into this version that others have already gone over I have to say that, not bad at all. It made me me re-purchase ME2 afterall. ;)

Ran into a few sound glitches where people where talking to me but there was no sound on Illium. I had my game freeze on me on the planet to save Tali in the area just before the final big battle section. I just finished the fight with the drones and the big geth and I was about to walk over to the door and the game froze. I had to restart my system... sigh.. Then therewas the mission to get samara, there was a glitch at a certain check point that when you open the door it shows a completely different area than where your at for 1 sec, then it swaps it out for where you're at! How was that missed?! The eyes of characters still go crazy during scenes, but that's ME no matter the engine I guess... Last thing. As much as I love the lighting, there are quite a few scenes where the lighting is too dark and the screen is almost pitch black. They arent long segments, but that should have been checked. Overall the game is still amazing and still better than the earlier version before the PS3 presentation wise. Load times still make you want to shoot yourself in the face with a biotic....

Oh I forgot. The music cuts out during scanning sometimes! PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF THE MAKER, PATCH THE PS3 GAME AND ADD CUSTOM SOUNDTRACK!!!! It was the only thing that kept me sane while scanning planets! I would even play the Kasumi track during scanning if I couldnt my music! You're not working smart Bioware! Give us the option at least by a patch! Screw your work on more dlc! I REQUIRE ASSISTANCE! Custom music patch for ME2 PS3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really don't get the complaints about load times. They are completely reasonable for a game like this. If you want ~pretty graphics~ you have to suck it up. Origins looks worse and has FAR worse load times, not to mention the Autosave in that game grinds it to a halt - in ME2, I rarely even notice the autosaves at all.

Complaining about a 30 minute install is also ridiculous. As many other games prove, load times are far better with an install. And constant disc-reading would heat up and wear out your system faster. I can't imagine how bad conversations would be if the dialogue had to be read from disc, ugh.

The only load times that bother me a little are when you go from deck to deck in the Normandy. Other then that they are really not that bad.

Exactly, load times in general are fine...the Normandy load times for decks 2, 3, 4 are awful - to the point, I avoid going there for longer periods than I would

Hi Chris,

I've played the Mass Effect series on every platform it has been available on. I stopped playing on the PC when I move to Mac for all my work and home based systems, boot camp is just not for me. I can say without hesitation that after having played ME2 on the PS3 for a couple of days, I don't plan to play ME2 or ME3 on any other platform.

Now some of this may also be the screen. 42inch LED versus 32inch LCD 1080p TV's, but the graphics on the PS3 surpassed even the graphical presentation of my pre-Mac PC.

I haven't played the DLC portion which people complain about, but this version feels much more theatrical in it's rendering and lighting. I'm going to credit the ME3 engine for that.

Simply fantastic.

After making it a few more hours in, I can touch on a couple things.

TBH I kinda like the planet scanning and I guess I just haven't done enough of it to get as sick of it as everyone else, but the inclusion ramps realism up considerably. There's still work to be done if the Alliance/etc stands a chance, regardless of looming threats or resurrected Spectres. I like that.

The main story thread also seems to balance urgency with freedom. A lotta open world games get this wrong; basically it becomes hard to do side-quests and have engaging short stories when the main quest is too urgent. But here that seems to be handled properly. Well done.

I'm seeing a trend where people say the picture of Kaidan is actually supposed to be the love interest? Yikes if so. I actually thought (and am now actively pretending) it was to honor the one I had to leave behind in the comic, but I guess it could go both ways... We did bump into each other during decontamination once... (Scene Missing)

Speaking of missing scenes, is all this talk of vanishing characters true? That's a bit disheartening if so, mainly cuz I don't remember the top of the box saying "6 hours of swapped content" ;) We'll touch more on this in a moment.

I wanna go into more detail about combat, because its really frigging satisfying. I usually aim first but the occasional instance of blind-fire or shooting from the hip with R2 feels great. And the head-shots are absolutely rewarding. Loved that trophy! Glad we can still holster our weapons, although it took me a minute. I like how there's ammo now, it really helps balance out those stronger weapons and makes me still appreciate my pistol in the presence of that... monstrous sub-machine gun.

I'm only 10.5 hours in, so my perspective is somewhat limited, but a few closing thoughts...

* Missing people. Please fix this if true, there must be some compromise we can reach here. What happened if 360 Import Shepard never met those people? Example: Having played the first game, I don't recall meeting "the fan" I've heard so much about (unless its scripted and I just forgot)... So even if I had played ME2 on 360 instead, what would have happened? Surely this can be implemented for PS3 players? Or even a save game importer... Wishful thinking and a bit late, I know...

* I hear complaints about framerate drop in some areas. Really this is a Sony thing, guys... they really did gimp our machine with 256mb DDR if I recall correctly. I'd take 512 standard any day. Same with the install, our Bluray is amazing tech but its the slowest disc reader I've ever experienced, anyway back on topic...

* The lighting and shadows look great, except the obvious console-related anti-aliasing issues (see also: Oblivion and almost everything cross-platform). Again, perspectives are skewed having gone straight from 360 ME1 to PS3 ME2 but its gorgeous to me. Which leads me to this unfortunate struggle...

With reportedly missing characters, minor or no, I can't help but feel a thread has been pulled, one attached directly to some obscure perfectionist OCD that makes me wanna just play this on 360 to see what I'm missing. But I prefer to play things on my PS3 honestly, cuz I'm scared that if I look at the 360 the wrong way its gonna ring-out on me. So I'm conflicted. Please put those people back in... :P

All in all though, the sequel shows a lot more of the universe and I like that. It blends starship command and sci-fi drama with cyberpunk style hacking and mods, then throws in psionic/jedi powers for good measure... Whatever you want out of sci-fi, its all here... and I love it.

Also, you broke my heart when my fish died.

And when can we Register our game? =]

My complaints are normandy related more than anything. It shouldnt take that long period. Outside the Normandy I still feel the loads are too long for an installed game. You make think they are reasonable, but I dont feel they are. That's why I complained. THere are other games out there as big or bigger than ME2 with far less load times. If the Norm's load times were cut in half I wouldnt mind if they didnt do anything about the planet ones.

ON another note, havent had any frame rate issues and the amount of bugs I ran into arent high. I'd still highly reccomend this game to anyone. Not sure about people disappearing. Im almost 20hrs in now and I cant recall anyone disappearing.

512MB total, which 256mb is dedicated to the GPU and 256mb is dedicated to the CPU.

IE the Xbox 360 has 512MB of ram also but it’s shared between the GPU and CPU.  That’s why most multiplatform games usually fair better on the 360 (when it’s the lead) then the PS3 because of the shared ram…and few others points but yeah...

Also when can we register our game:(

And after getting ArchAngel in this game a few things I noticed while playing for extended time that I never noticed in the PC.

Obviously my PC is few generations in the graphics department ahead of the PS3/360 and I have another few Gigs worth of RAM to play with but the lighting.  I noticed in dark rooms Shep's face is dim and such, in rooms with lights of light you can see the light off of his face.  That’s how it’s supposed to be right?  Well other times I noticed his face fading dark and lighting up again like a Christmas tree then fading out again in dim rooms.  I’m sure a patch in the future can fix this and it isn’t a game breaker but just something I’ve been noticing.

Another thing I want to talk about is the main screen.  My other post about this was deleted and said to follow the OPs guideline but I thought I was following the rule when talking about this.  I already own this game for the PC so I know at the main screen where it ask you to resume, new, options blah blah blah the console screen to the right opens up and gives you a newsfeed about new DLC, Mass Effect news and BioWare news.  Why is this not working?  Does this have to do with how PSN works?  Because I’m sure when I had beta for BFBC2 I had to sign right into the EA Network and tie my EA account to my PSN account.  So I’m just wondering what the hold up is.

Hi there. at first, pleace excuse my bad english, since i am not a native speaker. but i'll do what i can ^^.

So yeah, i am almost 18 Hours in (in 2 days.. that .. is kinda sick, i know, but i was prepared for that to happen, had a free week. =).. even if it still worries me to play that much w/o noticing, lol) and all i can say is that i am impressed by 'almost' every aspect of the game.

i was playing mass effect 1 on my 360, sadly it RROD'ed on me back then, and i've went out to get a PS3. (didnt regret it until now - hopefully the console stays alive.. ^^) so yeah, i never finished the first one, i dont wanna lie, but i've played it for maybe.. 10 hours? so yeah, i didnt know much about whats happening, so i welcomed the comic that came with ME2.

The Artstyle of the comic is a matter of taste, but i think no one can deny that its a very well made piece of Art. But what bug's me, is that Cerberus didnt get much attention - they were no threat to me at all, while everyone was upset that ive joined them, i couldnt get why. =(

The Gameplay is cool, i've heard from others that the RPG aspects were reduced compared to ME2.. but well.. i am hating shooters in general, but i love ME2! so i think it works just perfectly fine ^^.

The Story and the athmosphere are two very impressive things. even if the mainstory isnt that full of twists and turns, amost every planet tells a story that drag's me in so much that i actually forget how much time has passed since i've landed on it. ^^ (it really drags me in. ) and sometimes, i just stay around to watch the gorgeus Cities/Fields/Horinzons/Facilities/whatever.

so, all in all, i cant wait to finish/platinum it, and i'll get ME3 for sure.

(there is a little thing that gives me a headache though.. sometimes, the charactermodels.. were reset? they were in a stance, and all of a sudden, it changed dramatically, and not a second later, they were in a total different one. hopefully you get what i mean, again, i apologize for my crappy english!)

greetings,
Crystalchild

edit: oh and by the way, i absolutely love all 3 dlc episodes. every single one of them had a nice idea behind it, (Kasumi = Oceans eleven, lol // Overlord = Resident Evil 1 Movie xD // Shadowbroker = Flight Scene from Star Wars Ep2 where theyve hunted the Headhunter.. ^^) and Shadowbroker was just an exciting thing from start to end.

edit 2 @ normandy loading times:

yupp, i agree, they can be hard. x).. but since i've expected Dragon Age like loading times, i can live with the time the normandy's ol' lift needs to take me to another floor.

Found a few sound bugs on the purgatory. When you are about to fight the leader in the cutscene leading up to the battle the sound and actions have a delay. Also in the cutscene after killing him before you talk to jack there is also a delay in the sound. Thought I would also point those out for a possible patch fix with the rest of the issues being found.

Agreed, the DLC, from what I've seen, is top-notch. It keeps its pacing and doesn't feel too short. I also really
really liked Kasumi's.  The whole dinner party concept (and slick wardrobe), enjoying the atmosphere, hiding in plain sight and playing the part... Plus Kasumi's just an awesome character to boot.

Also, after reading about the in-game Cerberus network updates on the main menu, its kinda sad that we can't at least see that too, even if it was just an archive of the old stuff.  *cries and adds another point to the chalkboard under "360"* :P

Bioware probably figured that since Cerberus network is taking a break starting next week till the next dlc is released,  it would have been pointless in their minds to add in the news update feature until it goes live again for the next and what sounds like final dlc. I understand why they did it but it still would have been nice to see it before then.

There is a problem with the sounds in cutscenes like the gun sounds they are delayed, it's so out of place.

Someone needs to get fired.

Just played about 4 hours now but the game looks, feels and plays great. I played it on PC before, never on X360 but it looks like the biggest difference is in the lightning. When watching comparison screens or video's it really looks like the PS3 version is lacking because a lot of the shadows and details are missing. This side by side comparing is NOT the right way. When playing on the PS3 I've noticed that the lightning is completely different and therefore shadows and details are not missing but they are different as wel. Overall I like the lightning better this way.

As for technical issues so far I've only encountered some frame rate stutter and some out of sync audio on the Freedom's Progress mission. It was only for a short duration and noting game breaking. The Kaiden picture (when romancing Ashley) probable is to remember your fallen friend from ME1. Because in the comic, right after you make the decision between Kaiden and Ash you can also see his picture on Shepard's desk.

As for the comic... I like it. It is a nice and fun way to tell the ME1 story. It may leave out a couple of details but it has the core covered. So it does what it needs to do. I wouldn't mind the option for a longer version though.

I rolled a Vanguard, and I've been having issues with charge occasionally. Sometimes after charging I will be left floating in mid-air unable to move. The only resolution is to reload. This has happened to me 3 times now, so I've decided to start the game again as an Infiltrator instead. Apart from that though the game seems to run really well.

No the picture is glitched for kaiden no matter what option you choose. I choose liara as my romance and saved kaiden and let ash die and kaiden is still on the picture. Here is what Jack Lamden from Bioware said in this topic...

http://social.biowar...65804/3#5791875

"It was checked multiple times in development and I can recall bugs that were fixed on it; my best guess is that it rebroke just before certification and slipped through the cracks.
I've brought this up with the testers we currently have assigned for ME2 PS3 work so they're aware of the issue at the moment.

On the plus side Kaidan / Carth is a dream boat; at least it's not stuck with an Elcor picture."

So it is good to know they are working on it and what he said at the end is pretty funny haha.

Well now that i've played the PS3 version of ME I have just a few comments.

I was extremely impressed. The graphics blew me away, so much better than the xbox version. The only thing I didn't like was the LI photo bug that everyone seems to be commenting on over in tech help. It's a bit annoying. But since that is the only thing that bothered me, I have to say that the game is definitely superior on the PS3.

Gameplay wise, the game works well. Technically good as well for the most part. Some issues but they've already been commented on. Also, a little disappointed that the firepower pack wasn't included. I need the mattock for my best soldier build. >:(

The only thing that's spoiling the full game for me is the same thing that spoiled the demo - no option to invert x-axis, feels really odd.
