A refurbished 360 and a copy of ME2 is $125 at gamestop. So basically given the hudge difference in price between the 360 and PS3 version, if it's worth it to buy ME2 for PS3 it's worth it to dig a little deeper and just buy a 360.
Sony is so stupid. I got pissed about this (sony demanding new game prices for old games) when Braid came to the PS3 a while back and I guess I'll end up doing what I did back then ... wait for the price drop.

I have to admit I was curious about it so I check it out on my cousins PS3. The comic in no way takes the place of Mass Effect 1 even in the slightest and it only references major plot points from Mass Effect and not the little ones that made Mass Effect and by extension Mass Effect 2 so fun. They obviously did their best, but you definitely come in lacking the gravity of ME on this new release. Also I don't know what everybody is seeing but I completely missed the whole "running smoother" thing. It looks just the same.
I disagree on both points, to varying degrees.
The comic is an adequate substitute for ME1 (note that I don't say "stellar" or "perfect.") I would have liked for BW to have been able to at least use the audio tracks from ME to impart some of the flavor and atmosphere in a hazy, barely lucid dream sequence before waking up again on Lazarus.
That, said, the comic does what it's supposed to do: catch you up on the basic story. I'm fine with that, because, to be quite honest ME1 has aged poorly. I simply don't have a ton of interest in slogging through all the mediocre gameplay to get to the cutscenes.
As for it running smoother, it does, up to a point. I've found the textures are better, there's more detail. The lighting is somewhat improved and the colors pop a bit more.
If I were to call the 360 version, version 1.0 graphically I'd call the PS3 v. 1.2 Noticible and pleasant to see, but nothing to really ooh and ahh over.
I agree and, having to play ME 1 for 35-40 hours just to change your choices for ME2 must be a pain in the ass.
I played ME on PC so watching the comic was just a refresher for me. It's just easier to come back to the game with that. Plus, all the bonus DLC, which I would never buy, is a nice addition.

Well put... I also have and love my 360 version of ME and ME2, but I have to agree to the things you said. Specially about how it looks and plays on PS3, makes me even more excited about ME3 since it's the same engine.

Well... I'm on my third 360 bought new which the first too of them broke right after the warranty expired (more precise one day after the warranty expired). The point is... I would never buy or advise a "friend" (not even my worst enemy) to buy a used or refurbished 360, specially a 360, since a new one will eventually die on you, imagine a refurbished one... PS3 users are better off buying it for their system, rather than getting another just for the game...

I can justify $60. hell i can justify $100, its quite easily my favorite game ever made.
first things first, i will always prefer mass effect on xbox purely because the original was there and ps3 will never get it. gotta have a full story imo. that said, if you have no desire to play the original then ps3 version would actually be better cause it gives you a synopsis of the first game to catch you up on the most important details. xbox version does not do this.
second, the game is worth full price because it comes with all the dlc which xbox owners must pay seperately for. that and i mean the game aint really that old. 1 year is nothing. and its ocmming to a fresh audience so yeah, primuim price makes sense.
last, pirce point has nothing to do with Sony. EA and Bioware decided to push it full price. no point in pointing fingers where they dont diserve to be pointed now, ya dig?

I know I've loved the series since the opening scene in Mass Effect, the music is amazing.
SO glad other people who don't have an Xbox can finally experience it, it's well worth it.

Agreed, I bought Mass Effect 2 when it first came out and payed 60 bucks for it. I didn't even HAVE my own xbox. Although i do now. Once you play it, you'll see it really is worth, for crying out loud i don't even LIKE shooters. But the story in mass effect is to amazing to pass up that i deal with the fighting, and it's actually pretty fun for a girl who doesn't really play video games.
Bioware makes amazing games- end point
P.S. Blaming Sony really isn't right, what game ISN'T expensive when it's released?

I thought a new Xbox 360 has a three year warranty for the RRoD issue?

The only reason I'd suggest going for a 360 instead is simply for Mass Effect 1. I don't think the PS3 ME2 release will give that console base a full and 'proper' experience. Sorry, but a DLC comic book-thing isn't going to have the same effect.HotSoup1 wrote...

However, the PS3 ME2 release is a slightly different beast in terms of the engine - I'm sure I read it uses the ME3 'version' (Or one close to it) rather than ME2's, and it does come with some of the DLC as standard, something you don't get with the 360 (I believe it's about 2000 points worth of content, could be wrong). I'd also suspect it's one disc as opposed to the 360s two-disc release, and that would avoid some inconvenience with regards to disc-swapping.
So yes, the PS3 version isn't the same as the other two and likely worth the higher price.

I have just beat the PS3 version! Loved every ounce of dialog and combat. Can't wait to play again. Whatever your doing at Bioware seems to be working.

Just an idea and I seriously don't know if its possible to accomplish or not, but... Couldn't you guys have added a save import tool that lets players import their save datas from Mass Effect's PC version? As far as I know, there's nothing stopping you to do it on the legal side(since EA was the publisher). I mean, PS3 users won't be able to see the impacts of smaller choices on ME 2 or 3 since comic doesn't covers them.
I'm thinking that this would also be prohibited by Microsoft.

I like to point out that i think games bio ware makes are amazing. But the thing is though i only on a ps3.Which means i had to wait for mass effect2 to come to the ps3.in order to play it.to bad i can play mass effect 1.the comic will have to do sincei have no intentions of buying the xbox so i can just play only one game.

Not once they went to the slim version. They are now certain that the RRoD is dead and buried.

Not that this topic has to become into a "Let's bash Sony or Microsoft" but while RRoD is gone, the cause isn't. They treated the symptom by changing the indicator to something else. Read it on ign. But loving ME 2 for PS3 so far!
