Ok, I just tried to copy a Mass Effect 2 game save to a USB stick and...
-There are two saves, one says (Adept / Name / Time) the other says (Profile / Game progress)
-You can copy (Adept / Name / Time) but (Profile / Game progress) is locked.

My question is which of these saves actually matters for the import to Mass Effect 3?
I hope it's the one I can copy: (Adept / Name / Time)

Why do you need to copy the save to the USB stick? For backup purposes (if your getting a new hard drive or something)?

If it's for the actual import you shouldn't need to do that as ME3 should work the same way ME2 for 360 works and read the save off the hard drive and import it straight from there.

In any case have you tried loading from a save you have copied to the USB? It could be that it will create the 2nd file once you load from it.

I'm at work right now so unable to test this myself :)

Profile IIRC will be your 'overall' save file for the game in general. The other one is am assuming the 'save file' for your character. That would be the one that will be getting used most likely for import because of course you'll be able to have various 'Shepards' and 'save files' for each one. Good to know that those can be copied.

Thanks, I hope your right Sir Ulrich.

BioWare... ? I know you know the definitive answer. lol ... or anyone else who could give their input would be good.

Thanks

One way to confirm this would be to create a new shepard. If my theory is right you'll have a 'new' save file akin to the (Adept/Name/Time) one, if you do, that is definitly the one. It sounds pretty much similar to how it is for the PC, although it's been ages since I saw my PC files (PC died in August last year :( )

I wish they would just lock saves to PSN ID not system hardware. Then I could play on bedroom PS3 or living room one at ease.

=Rant=

Also the locked saves in dragon age where a real PITA when my current PS3 at the time was flirting with YLOD. The transfer tool of firmware 3.15 was brand new and gave me lots of error codes. took me couple weeks of attempts to get my locked game saves to transfer to new system. Ended up of of the many locked saves (culprit was a HV bowling save) would cause to tool to error out luckily before deleting source saves lol. Deleted it and it worked thus luckily not losing over 100 hours of DA:O saves plus many others :/

Now if the dying PS3 hadnt barely lived long enough I wouldnt have been so lucky was a sad sight sitting there with big fans on it hoping transfer would complete before it would YLOD shutdown.

A save cloud would be a great option, all I want is to be able to play my games on both my PS3`s and have the ability to backup my saves in a manner that will restore to new hardware in event of system failure. Until sony solves this issue the best thing devs can do is lock to PSN ID instead of the Copy Control lock. Easy patch as GT5, Motor Storm PR and other locked save games have shown.

/End Rant lol

I don't understand the reason behind locking a savegame to a specific console. That seems to make no sense.

Just lock it to the PSN ID. Why make it harder for gamers to enjoy the game!

please unlock the game saves. We invest hours into your games and really need to be able to backup the game saves. After having 3 PS3 die I copy every game save for all my games to a usb stick after playing as a backup - except for Dragon Age and ME2.

I'm about to upgrade to a new/bigger hard drive... anyone know if the locked saves get copied over by the PS3 backup utility?

Why do they do this? I fear Dragon Age 2 will have locked saves also, I already lost all my Dragon Age 1 saves cos of my PS3 dying...locked saves are so not fair :(

Please bioware, unlock the saves!

they should, my understanding is that it will work with a new HDD as long as you are using the same ps3

okei.. this is what i know:

1) the first "locked" one is your game data which includes your preferences from options menu, the DLCs installed and such; and

2) is your saved game data which includes the recent mission you're in (for restart missions), the latest autosaved game and all your hard saves (save 1, 2, 3 and so on)

I came to understand that because my old PS3 died on me but i was able to back up my Saved game data (#2) into a thumb drive.

Upon buying my new ps3, there was no way for me to transfer all my files from my old ps3 into the new one so what i did was put in my ME2 disc, have it install the Game Data (#1) into my new ps3. i had to re-install all the DLCs i have especially the Cerberus Pack as well (wont load without the Cerberus pack).

Once that was done, i stuck in my thumb drive and got my Saved game data (#2) - voila! i was able to load my Saved game.

This is great news, so you can backup your Mss Effect 2 saves...hopefully this will be the case for Dragon Age 2. Do you think they will ever fix Dragon Age Origins so that we can backup our saves?

I think that file for Dragon Age is just the options file, strangely tho, it does update everytime you save.
