Okay, so I was just on Youtube and saw smudboy's new vids and I thought I'd share with anyone who wants to see them.

Notice: For those unfamiliar with smudboy's vids- they contain spoilers.

Part 1
Part 2
Part 3

Remember critique is important for all art forms and helps proper developement. Bioware should really listen to some of the things the man has to say. I like ME2, but it was far from perfect.

Blind fandom kills baby puppies.

I've seen people slate this guy before but I actually find his videos to be pretty valuable feedback. Yes, he goes about it in a mildly comical way but the intentions are definate valid. I really do hope Bioware have watched.

It's a smart critique no doubt, and i agree with all the points. But is there any 'value' in it?

The hope that such pitfalls will be avoided in ME3

Yes, there is. Instead of writing his opinions in the forums, he presents them in the form of videos. And he does it quite well, and of course most of his criticisms are completely valid.

Well, he did that too.  A lot.  And got himself banned, apparently.

If so, then I hope that wasn't just because he criticized the game.

He did have some violent outbursts when, uh... reasoned into a corner.

I'm only 3 minutes into the first video and I can already tell he has no idea what he's talking about.

"How does a higher DPS affect a sniper or a shotgun?"

Because you can put out more rounds when you're not waiting behind cover for your weapon to cool.

Herp derp.

I actually watched all of that. Wow talk about nitpicking, kind of funny to see him nitpick like that.

missed my point. It's a sharp critque and i enjoy it, but is there any value in dissecting vidya game narratives/plot/whatever? They're so primitive what can be gained from any analysis of them? It's like an analysis of the The Da Vinci Code, you gain nothing other than the confirmation that it is shallow and primitive.

Not that you can't enjoy video games, or indeed The Da Vinci Code.

I'm not a fan of sumdboy, but when he was around, I did enjoy his rambling and some actually did make sense. He has some valid points, but some of the things are just pure nitpicking to the extreme. He is just like any critic, as you don't always agree with their side of the argument.

I highly doubt it, since he was ragging on it daily in post after post here, literally, months.  Probably had something to do with his distinct lack of ability for, shall we say, gracefully handling disagreement.  The guy wasn't disliked simply for taking issue with ME2, something that should be obvious given the number of critics here, all of whom are hardly outcasts. It's not an epithet I use myself, but to a large extent, "Smugboy" was very well earned.

And for the reason he was ban, was probably as didymos said. If you disagreed with him like I did, it wasn't civil.

Some valid points, if a bit nitpicky. Especially the one about plane crashing, that was just a failure to suspend disbelief more than anything.

He isn't any more rediculous or nitpicky than say, Yahtzee. Critics like that express their views in extreme ways but are always grounded in real creative feedback. If more game designers watched Zero Punctuation we'd all be living in a better world.

Why? Because they were first, or because most of the time they are right about thigns that got magicaly erased from the franchise... because they noticed those things?

No, because they whine about changes that made the game much better using arguments that are most of the time horrible.

Remember kids! Nit picking = Intelligence. Show everybody you have a big brain.
