You'll have to look around on old Ecael and Smudboy threads, but they're there. F-bombs were dropped, babies were eaten. Oh, the horror!
Wait, with Ecael? Now I have to find it! Two more questions: do you remember what boards/when this all went down? Much appreciated.

You'll have to dig around on the ME2 Spoilers forums. I don't know what was the final indicident that got good ol' Smug banned (if he even is), though... he kept posting for months after those little clashes.
AFAIK Ecael left the forums willingly and only comes back for the big announcements (like the ME3 trailer).

Now when I play Mass Effect 2 I start getting bored around Horizon. I've loads of Shepard's, on the 360 and PC, that have simply stalled out at that point.
I simply feel that the second game lacks any real sense of narrative drive, I never feel the urge to push on. Individual story elements, such as Tali's loyalty mission, are fantastic but the game just feels completely disjointed.
I feel with the first game as if I am expereincing a complete adventure, where parts feed off each other. In the second it feels as if I am playing a series of downloadable episodes.

me1 vs me2: round X
Threads like these have been on the rise lately. I guess the dissenters have problem coping with the overwhelming positive response ME2 got at awards season.
Speaking for myself (as we all should), I haven't even paid attention to whatever awards ME2 has won. Frankly, it doesn't much matter to me what kind of acclaim ME2 gets as I don't follow a majority-rules mentality. My opinion is my opinion, regardless whether I'm the only person in a hundred that feels it.
I came back because of the ME3 announcement. And I fight the old fights about thermal clips, lack of squad armor and the like because I don't wish to see those issues continue into ME3.

Also, smudboy was never banned, he just managed to lock the 2nd Collector Base argument thread and vanished.

Mass Effect 2 was perfection made of diamonds and gold. Anyone who thinks otherwise is full of sh*t and an ignorant purist looking at the first game through rose-tinted glasses and thus cannot possibly have a valid view or opinion worth listening to in the slightest.
Elaborated for posterity's sake.

Thermal clip complaints are stupid. It's not a retcon, they explained it in the codex. It may not make sense to you, but in the universe, it works. BioWare never wanted players to be able to make a weapon that never overheated in ME1.
Complaining about Shepard's death scene...let's try saying that the Normandy still had some mass effect fields up, keeping it from being a complete vacuum. Easy. Maybe Shepard not getting into the life pod immediately doesn't look like it makes sense, but this is nitpicking. In fact, maybe Shepard got sucked away as the Normandy depressurized. Just suspend disbelief.
And then he complains about Liara, even though it's pretty much a non issue after Lair of the Shadow Broker.
Critique IS important. But it's important to do it right.

I merely pointed out the obvious fallacy of the thread.
I love both ME1 and ME2. Putting words in my mouth won't change that.

I was watching "The Game" episode of TNG (maybe 4th season?) the other day and there was a scene where Riker casually lifts Data up and lays him on a table. Isn't Data much heavier than a real person? It doesn't seem realistic that Riker would be able to lift him.!!!!!!!
WTF LOL BBQ

These videos do bring up some valid points, but does it prevent me from enjoying the game? No. It's a video game.

Smud is in fact banned, Phaedon. Permabanned, even. Apparently he was badmouthed by someone, to whom he returned the nonsense and then ended up being permabanned.Phaedon wrote...

As for Ecael, I'm not even sure why she decided to leave. She was an absolutely fantastic poster to have around. She only comes back during big announcements now and then vanishes again until the next big thing.

Ok guys and galls, let's end this community spliting argument about ME1 being retconed, blame it all on Microsoft and EA politics and go back to jerking off on the character forums.
I think the fractures in the community are one of it's integral features.
