I can retrain all squad member's powers now. Any ideal way to do this?

It would depend on what powers they currently have, compared to what would make them the most helpful to how you want to play.

What class to you play?

Do you like to set up warp bombs?

Do you want to strip defenses faster?

also it depends on which mission.

Choose whether you want to strip defense faster (Insanity mode), kill faster, or more crowd control.

With this in mind, max the skills of your choice.

As a Soldier, the squad can be too optional so I'll provide my suggestions (also I've played the soldier class the most compared to other classes).

And you can use this to play around with builds also: http://mass-relay.co...ents/calculator

Garrus / Grunt / Legion / Morinth / Zaeed
1st Power: lvl 2
2nd Power: Area Overload / Inferno / Explosive Drone / Pull Field / Inferno
Passive: Renegade / Pure Blood / Assassin / Erdua / Warlord
Bonus Power: lvl 3

Jack
1st Power: lvl 2
2nd Power: Pull Field
Passive: lvl 3
Bonus Power: Heavy Warp Ammp

Jacob / Miranda
1st Power: Pull Field / Area Overload
2nd Power:  Inferno / Unstable Warp
Passive: Specialist / Leader
Bonus Power: lvl 1 (Jacob, maybe zero)

Kasumi
1st Power: Rapid SS
2nd Power: Area Overload
Passive: lvl 0 (zero points)
Bonus Power: Improved Flashbang

Mordin
1st Power: Heavy Incinerate
2nd Power: lvl 0 (but you can spread points from Neural Instead)
Passive: Savant
Bonus Power: Neural Shockwave

Samara
1st Power: lvl 2
2nd Power: lvl 3
Passive: Caedo (but Sapiens is better for the cool down bonus)
Bonus Power: Area Reave

Tali
1st Power: Explosive Drone
2nd Power: lvl 2
Passive: lvl 3
Bonus Power: Area Drain

Thane
1st Power: Throw Field
2nd Power: Unstable Warp
Passive: Marksman
Bonus Power: lvl 0 (zero points)

Edit: Gah, the formatting, the agony!

Heavy Warp has a 12 second cooldown for squadmates.  Unstable Warp has a 9 second cooldown for squadmates.  The choice is clear.

Also worth noting: Mordin's fully evolved Cryo blast is only 4.5sec. The fastest CC of all squadmate powers.

As a Soldier, the OP would have no use for squadmate ammo powers.  He'd be better off with his own Squad Cryo for everyone so G, G and Z have little use for maxing out theirs.

Grunt would be better off with a maxed Fortification because he IS going to be spamming it no matter what you do.  You can't keep him from using it whenever he wants no matter what you set the AI to.  If you don't bother with his ammo power because you're using Squad Cryo (who wouldn't??) then maxing Concussive Shot (AoE) for Barrier stripping and AoE husk "auto-kill" is a good idea.  Same idea for Garrus.

Jack
1st Power: lvl 2
2nd Power: Pull Field
Passive: lvl 3
Bonus Power: Heavy Warp Ammp

I don't disagree that this is good, but I'd more prefer Squad Warp if you didn't choose it as the Soldier's bonus.  Her weapon damage is PATHETIC so the difference between a heavy boost and the squad boost for her is basically nothing.

But instead of worrying about the ammo at all, another option is to just focus on the first 3 powers and max all 3 out ignoring Warp Ammo.  That gives you the fastest Area Pull available from a squadmate.

Jacob / Miranda
1st Power: Pull Field / Area Overload
2nd Power:  Inferno / Unstable Warp
Passive: Specialist / Leader
Bonus Power: lvl 1 (Jacob, maybe zero)

Kasumi
1st Power: Rapid SS
2nd Power: Area Overload
Passive: lvl 0 (zero points)
Bonus Power: Improved Flashbang

Agreed

Mordin
1st Power: Heavy Incinerate
2nd Power: lvl 0 (but you can spread points from Neural Instead)
Passive: Savant
Bonus Power: Neural Shockwave

The choice between NS and Cryo Blast is personal choice.  I personally prefer Cryo because the tier 4 version has a 4.5 second cooldown instead of the 9 seconds its supposed to be.  No matter the downsides to Cryo, I'd prefer a power that can be cast TWICE as fast versus one that offers a slightly favorable CC.

Samara
1st Power: lvl 2
2nd Power: lvl 3
Passive: Caedo (but Sapiens is better for the cool down bonus)
Bonus Power: Area Reave

I'd prefer Area Pull for Warp Bombs if you've got some way to strip defenses (Shepard Area Reave/ Area Energy Drain)

Tali
1st Power: Explosive Drone
2nd Power: lvl 2
Passive: lvl 3
Bonus Power: Area Drain

Skip AI Hack.  Its not worth the cooldown compared to the other two unless you're going for some sort of gimmick build.

Thane
1st Power: Throw Field
2nd Power: Unstable Warp
Passive: Marksman
Bonus Power: lvl 0 (zero points)

Yes.

Thanks for the input, but I just realized that I have nothing else to do in the game (all side quests, DLC, everything), and I'm going to be taking a break from this game until a month or so before ME3 comes out.

Oh btw I was playing on Veteran. (or whatever is one above normal)

Have you actaully tried AI Hacking? If I ever bring Tali on a mission (other than some fancy role-playing run) it's for that skill. With duration and cooldown upgrades it's very usable and makes fights with at least one synthetic a piece of cake (Insanity perspective, any class).

Yes I have. On Tali, Legion and an Infiltrator Shepard all on Insanity level.  Its not worth the cooldown in my opinion.  I'd much rather have her Combat Drone, Energy Drain and Passive maxed than bother with a power I don't find much use for.  Having a single target turned for, lets say 7 seconds, versus unleashing an AoE Energy Drain that would devastate the same robotic target and cripple everything around it....I don't see the reason to turn it.

There's never been a moment where I'd thought "I'd rather hack that target than Drain and kill it."  And if I need a distraction, I'm going to go for the exploding Chikitikka ("Go for the Optics!!").

Then I guess you just haven't noticed, that once you hack a target, all enemies around it focus solely on it? It's like casting a combat drone on all of them at once. If you haven't found a use for this, then it's only your experience. It's not general truth and many others find the power worth every money.

I haven't noticed the main purpose of the power?  Now you're just being condescending.

I never said that it was an infallible truth.  I specifically said "in my opinion" if you bothered to actually read what I'd said.  Whats up your bum that you're all up in a tiff about my opinion?

The big difference is that Combat Drone will go off with a *bang* when its done and actually do more than just distract them.  Not everyone turns to fight a hacked opponent immediately and its not a common enough occurrence for me to feel its worth the points.

Omega-202, I largely agree with you about AI Hacking.  I'd recommend checking out this thread though, and the videos it contains.

My experience with AI Hacking has been limited to geth missions where I am forced to bring a squadmate that has access to it.  Hacking the basic geth troopers is usually a bad idea, because if their allies don't immediately kill them they will often walk right up to you.  When AI Hacking ends, you are left with a geth right in the middle of your team, which can be dangerous.

It's discussed a bit on this thread, but there are better targets to hack than the basic geth troopers.

Not worth the cooldown? Tali's Combat Drones are not worth the cooldown - they're on a 30 second cooldown, you can only use this power like 3 times during an entire missions. Plus drones are weak, they will last for only a couple seconds in combat. They're great playing an Engineer, but pretty bad on squadies.

Then you haven't tried hard enough :)

iLikeBWgames already explained how AI Hacking can be used, but check this thread to find out how extremely powerful and fun AI Hacking can be; there's no way something like ED can come close to what a single, well targeted hacked enemy can do to its former pals

An AI Hacked target is multiple times more deadly and destructive than drones; drones distract one enemy - a hacked enemy wins the fight for you; AI Hacking is the most powerful CC ability in ME2 IMHO.

[edit] Lazuli beat me :)

Personally I love building Tali'Zorah vas Normandy the same pattern as we do for Kasumi, i.e.:

4 Explosive Drone
4 Improved AI Hacking
0 Quarian Machinist
4 Area Drain

If her passive yielded a cooldown reduction, then it would be worth it.  As it is, a paltry increase in her weapon damage is unnoticable and the power duration increase is just unneeded.  Drain has no duration, Drone will die long before it's duration is up as is, and Improved AI Hacking can already be sustained indefinitely on most synthetics.  What is gained by evolving her three active abilities is a much more versatile Tali; a teammate I actually now find useful ever since I started neglecting her passive.

That's a great idea, and then there are no wasted squad points either.

***********************************
@Omega-202, good points for Grunt, Zaeed and any other squadmate that has an ammo power. I didn't think of putting points into Squad Cryo.

The build for Shep I was considering was Heightened, Squad Disruptor, Inferno, Commando, and a lvl 4 BP.

Thats right. What were they smoking when they decided this? A 30 sec cooldown in a global cooldown system.

To be fair, it's the only unique class power that any squadmates get. Legion and Tali, by all rights, shouldn't have Combat Drone at all.

It's a through-defense CC. I don't think it's worth the cooldown, but I can see what BioWare was thinking.

And Kasumi kinda gets Tactical Cloak... Kinda... =O
