I'm having consistent freezes at the Start Menu as well. When I try to select "Resume" it just freezes. I don't have to reboot the system, just have to quit the game and go back in again. Mostly annoying at this point but it has done it pretty consistently since Tuesday. I'm on a 60GB PS3.
If you try to load your various saves through the "Load Game" menu, does the same thing occur?

In the video you will see that if i keep a level eye view and attempt to pan around it freezes, I noticed that this started to occur after I lowered the gates to enter the first area of battle on the map. It seems to occur only when the sunlight is in view on the large amount of objects... overflow issue? I recognized this from old games on the pc so I started looking at the floor and used garrus and grunt to do my fighting while I healed them. Slowly and steadily I have progressed through some of the level by simply looking at the floor and running blindly ... the second freeze in the video shows me looking at the floor then as soon as I attempt to get into the fight and start looking up it freezes ... this is easily a software issue possibly an overflow protect gone wrong.
I also lost my manual save file but luckily the auto save was available so I was able to resume ... 15 hours into the game is pretty damn far for me to just start over and pick a different quest to avoid the issue.
Oh by the way this is a launch version 60gb ps3

And last time it did it,i had auto save on.
And it didn't save my game at all.
Bt it seem to be a little better though.
When i go to a room or curt scene.
I guess i'll make sure to save more offten.

Thanks for the video.
I've shown it to our QA fellows who are currently assigned

FWIW, I have a PS3 "Slim" w/ 250G HDD, purchased June 2010. I downloaded the game and the Cerberus bundle at the same time from PSN.
Hopefully either BioWare/EA and/or Sony will issue a patch soon to address this. Seems a shame to drop almost $80 on a new game and have it so glitchy. I would also think they would re-think their pricing structure; $60 for the game whether it's a physical disc or an electronic version seems weird to me. The overhead for the materials (disc, case, printing, distribution, etc.) is absent in the DL version, so why not pass those savings on to the consumer?

Nicely done OniMirage. Even though your problem seems to be different than mine, it will be nice if you can show the PS3 HDD light as well.
Mostly, I can tell that the loading will not work when the HDD light does not blink when the game is at a loading screen.
Either on the loading screen after the EA logo or when loading a save.
On a side note, when I do get in the game, I'll try not to be too quick to do anything. Like if I am saving the game, I won't dare to open terminals dialogues because at times, I will get a PS3-wide freeze where even the XMB button won't respond.
Like for me, it finally played smoothly with Film-grain off and all the online options set to 'no' and my PS3 disconnected completely and I got to as far as trying to save the game in front of a door when trying to get Jack who escaped. The moment I pressed a 'save' location was when it froze. Just like that. But with the usual, background noise still playing.

NP I just kept pressing on trying to play and actually got to the point of blowing up the barrier to the inside of the facility where tali is but i can't progress by lookin at the floor anymore cus it just freezes right at the barrier now so I am stuck at this point for a fix.

Same here, different spot though, but man it sucks.

Looks like we'll just have to sit tight. Ever since EA bought Bioware, things have been going downhill. One thing is for sure though, I'm not rushing to the store to buy anything from either company as they can't seem to be bothered to iron out game killing bugs before shipping the game. Glitches are one thing, this is something else entirely. Not impressed.

From the look of things, lots of people are having these problems. When this happened with DA:O, it took Bioware about 2 weeks to get a patch out if memory serves. The standard response with EA tech support seems to be deny, deny, deny (ie. its your hardware, not our software).

Gotta agree with you here. Last year when they first announced DA2, I was pretty excited (I've really enjoyed DA:O and Awakenings.) But the way things have been with the past couple of launches, I'm not only NOT going to pre-order DA2, but will probably wait at least a month or so before I even think about picking it up.
Really disappointed with the lock-ups on ME2. Hope they fix it soon.

Also, if it weren't for EA, we wouldn't have ME2 on the PS3 at all. I like that EA has somewhat improved and I'd rather we not show them that PS3 owners are dicks.

I have a different freezing problem that I thought your QA people might want to see.
Every time I try to enter a door or a wall safe locked with this mini-game, this happens. I have reinstalled the game and DLC multiple times and have even restored my PS3. This is the only game that I have had problems with. I am using a 80GB MGS4 Bundle PS3. Loading from save files sometimes helps but not always.

This matter has now spread to a lot of forums and I won't blame people if they're not stupid enough to buy a game that doesn't work.

I had the same issue last night. I was about 32 hours into the game and I was on the loading screen right after you hop in the sky car in the shadow broker mission.
The load screen locked up, the music was still playing and everything but nothing happened. I was about 5 mins and then restarted my system. The save file was corrupted and I was only presented with the option to start a new game.
Seeing as Bioware does not have the ability to fix the corrupted data, would Bioware please at least release a patch that makes the loading screens run smoother or like the one guy said, remove the copy lock on the save so I can make a backup on a USB drive.

****ing about EA probably won't get the problem fixed. Not my favorite company either, and I'm still not over what they pulled with Dante's Inferno, but, they aren't as bad as they used to be. They at least try, some of the time, to do the right thing (sometimes).
Also, if it weren't for EA, we wouldn't have ME2 on the PS3 at all. I like that EA has somewhat improved and I'd rather we not show them that PS3 owners are dicks.
I agree with the sentiment, but in order to express our disappointment we need to be vocal about this issue. It shows we still care if we take the time to express our problems and concerns, and with big companies complaining is often the only way to get anything done (after all, they already have our money). The worst thing we could do to EA/Bioware, is to quietly decide to never buy their products again. At least this way, we're in communication and giving them the chance to fix what we don't like.
As for having ME2 on the Playstation, as far as I'm concerned we still don't have it so why thank EA? The game doesn't work. I tend not to thank people who take my money and give me a buggy port of a great game that is (in my case and many others) completely unplayable. This isn't about being a PS3 owner or an Xbox 360 owner (many of us have both, so it's not an issue), it's about being a loyal customer that feels they're being ripped off after supporting both companies during their formative years in the industry.
That being said, the quality at Bioware dropped after the EA purchase so I suspect that EA isn't giving the guys at Bioware the time to craft the games they'd be happy with in the first place. I do feel bad for Bioware in that they have to deal with this mess after most likely working their asses off under an unrealistic deadline for the game's release.

1. In situations where I have to bypass a wall safe or door the game freezes and I have to do a hard reboot of my system. This wasn't a big deal at first until I went on the Dossier quest to get Dr. Okeer. After a certain point you're required to bypass a door to continue with the quest. The game freezes at the door and I'm stuck. No way forward, no way back.
2. Whenever I try to access the map, whether it be from the game screen or the pause menu, the game freezes and I have to reboot.
3. When I try to access the objective location indicator on the game screen it freezes and I'm forced to reboot.
The freezing issues myself and others are having is very frustrating and disappointing. I've been waiting a long time to play this game and to have my hard earned money go towards a game that has game breaking issues is very disheartening. I hope they fix these issues soon. For the time being I'll be shelfing Mass Effect until it's fixed.
