I've got a PS3 320gb, the latest UK slim model.
Here's a quote from the play.tm review who had similar issues;
"Bizarrely Mass Effect 2 on the PS3 seems more unstable than its Xbox
counterpart with it actually crashing the normally well-behaved PS3 when
the Xbox 360 version would keep on going. This is problem becomes more
prominent in longer play sessions making the game feel a bit more rushed
than it should have been. There are also graphical glitches some of
which will allow you to be able to search through lockers and medical
stations on the other side of walls. There is even the odd clipping
issue which occasionally sees Commander Shepard stuck in mid air up
against a wall. Mistakes like this, while the are fairly minor are not
really excusable in a game in which the never featured at all in the
original release on the 360 and has had an extra year's worth of development time into the bargain."

I noticed a geth actually moving on the ground in the room as if it had been shot and the physics allowed it's body to roll but stopped shortly after it touched grunts foot, I dare not attempt to reload and try again to get video of it ... could this be the issue a never ending physics loop from a model in the game? I am not sure how the models are registered into the world ... with physics on then spawn the model or spawn the models then enable the physics but since that point I have not had an issue on the world aside from my own fault at dying. I attempted several tests to try and force the issue, looking back at the room where I was ... looking at the sky ... spinning in circles going into the menu while looking at the sky, nothing seems to trigger it anymore.

I haven't seen this issue posted anywhere else so decided to make a new thread. I have not noticed any of the other freezing problems anyone else has posted but every time I try to bypass a safe the game freezes.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game twice and it still happens every time. When I go up to a safe and press (X) to bypass it the popup screen telling me about bypassing the safe comes up. Once I press (X) again to exit the popup screen the popup screen goes away and the game freezes indefinitely. The bypass safe "minigame" screen does not pop up on the screen.
Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Skip unnecessary safes and doors, and save right in front of the ones you can't avoid. Try reloading from save if it crashes. So far, I have been able to get past several doors this way. I'm not sure but it seems like the saves are getting corrupted as you play or if there is something in the environment crashing this mini-game but it could be something else...

I know that most people don't have this option of jumping systems, but if you take your copy back to the store and get a refund you can pick this game up again used for much less in a few weeks/months, and by then they should have these issues fixed. I for one am never again going to be in the first wave of purchasers of a game if this is the crap we have to put up with. I'd rather wait for the bugs to be ironed out (as they should have been during the extra year of development this game had), and then pick it up used for less. Pre-order premiums are useless if the game doesn't work. I hope Bioware and EA learn from this horrible release, and treat us like customers instead of unpaid testers.
Good luck everyone, I hope things turn around for you.

I can only you give you the tricks that worked for me in Fallout NV.
- Try uninstalling/reinstalling EVERYTHING
- Turn-off auto save if possible
- Try freeing a lot of room on your hard drive. I read somewhere that having a lot
of free space helps with gaming performances (Digital Foundry)
- Unplugging the net may also help
- In the end, just avoid or turn off anything than may slowdown the game or the PS3
That's pretty much the only stuff you can do
I hope for you guys you'll get a patch, I personally wouldn't get it since I'm afraid it will
give me bugs that I didn't have before

I would like to report that the game freezes when I am loading one my save files. I have not been able to play the game since this happened. It just freezes when I am in the loading screen
It means your save data is corrupted. So... you're screwed. I really don't know why it happens. Never experience
something like that, even on Fallout. My ME2 copy runs perfectly.
