Agreed, I like the ME1 crew more (probably because I played the first game, um, first). Also, I almost always run with Jack and Zaeed, just because they're such loose canons.

ME1 is second last, and ME2 is third last, with only 15 more votes for ME1. Not exactly a good poll to use when comparing squads.

I liked ME2 crew better even the reintroducing of Garrus. Garrus in ME1 we a green, over zealous, hard **** who could turn into Saren if not watched enough. Garrus in ME2 was jaded battle scared and still had a newly developed sense of humor. Seeing as how the crew was drafted save for Grunt, and legion, you get to see them develop and see the way they think. Take Mordin he goes from thinking the Genophage was a great Idea to seeing the repercussions of his his actions. I felt there was much more depths then most of th squad mates in ME1 save for Wrex, and Ashly.

I think ME2's greatest character flaws were two major things:

1. Too many squadmates.

2. No banter.

However, I think other than the above, ME2 did some good things with the characters. We get a lot more of Garrus/Tali, and everyone, what with the recruitment and loyalty missions. Also, I felt Garrus and Tali, as characters, had a lot more depth and personality in ME2.

The lack of squad banter, and the squadmates not having any real dialog at all outside of their recruitment/loyalty missions was awful, and what hurt the game more than anything else, I think.

I like my ME2 crew, all of them - don't get me wrong... But they didn't have as much dialogue as the original ME squad. Oh, and not to mention:

WREX. IS. NOT. THERE... I miss Wrex. Posted Image

From the ME1 crew Kaiden, Garrus, and Wrex were my favourites. The characters in ME2 are all good too, If I could add Thane, Mordin & Kasumi to the above group for ME3 I'd be happy...

...I've confused myself now, I don't know which crew I like best, I like them ALL *sleepwalks off to work*

ME1 for sure.

As someone already pointed out, ME2 had too many squadmates. The ME1 squad was a smaller, more tight-knit team imo. ME2 had some great characters, but few of them were fleshed out and developed as the ME1 crew. Party banter as well as more frequent and longer conversations(7-8 minute conversation with Ash comes to mind here) with squadmates are what really made the difference for me.

I don't hold either of the crews in a higher regard compared to each other or with other Bioware games. But I'm going with ME (1)'s crew because I believe they were overall better integrated into the story and had better interaction.

ME2 has too many characters and most don't have solid connections to the main story. With so many of them none can get properly developed beyond the "daddy issues". Mordin and Jack being exceptions.

ME on the other hand has less characters, they are better integrated in the story and they get better development as you progress.

Saren is also a much better bad guy than Harbinger.

I definitely felt much more connected to the ME1 crew. As another poster has said, their smaller number meant that I could quickly develop an affinity with them all, in particular Ash and Garrus. I feel that they were some of the more deeper, nuanced, and fleshed out characters that BioWare have made in recent memory.

I just didn't care for the ME2 crew at all. I found most of them annoying, or cliched, or simply dull. I missed the lack of barbed banter between them, and I found many of them quite two dimensional, in particular Jacob, Miranda and Jack.

When it came to the aftermath of the Suicide mission, I found myself not caring one iota that I had lost Mordin. That was strange for me, because I usually like completing games to their fullest extent, which would include saving everyone that could be rescued. But no, such was my dissatisfaction with the characters that I left Mordin's corpse behind to rot without even looking back.

I prefer the ME2 cast, no doubt, not only does it have my 2 favorite crew members from ME1 it also adds Samara, Mordin, Legion, Thane and Zaeed which are characters I have really grown to like, only downside is no Liara, but she gets a big role in LotSB anyway :P

I also miss is the little crew meetings they had after the big main story missions, though to be fair only 2 or 3 people ever spoke, I don't really remember Garrus, Tali or Wrex ever saying anything in those meetings.

ME1 crew by far. They felt more real than ME2's band of superhero's with daddy issues. And we got to talk to them more.  Ash and Kaidan asked for Shepards opinion on matters, and what his beliefs are. Also I didn't feel like a commander in ME2, I felt more like a social worker.

I love all the characters, but party interaction in ME2 was way too sparse, and aside from your Normandy conversations and their recruitment missions, I found myself wanting a lot more out of them. They had little to no cohesion and poor primary story/mission integration for the most part, which was hugely dissappointing after ME1. That, and I ended up trying to fit them to missions by their armor, since it didn't really matter who I took with me. Then I'd run around the cities with each of them mechanically, just to get that rare little piece of extra dialogue. So the characters are all great, but their implementation was not. And for the record, my favorites across both games are Liara, Wrex, Tali, Jack, Thane, and Mordin, but there are no duds, so I'm all over the place.

I prefer my ME1 squad, i like my ME2 squad as well but i feel like im selling them short because i work for galactic n@zi racists. Though Mordin and Legion make up for a lot of short comings :) They are awesome.

I disagree. Dragon Age only had one interesting partymember, Shale. The rest were shallow.

I care about
ME 1 - Garrus, Tali, VS, Wrex, Liara
ME 2 - Garrus, Tali, Mordin, Legion, Kasumi...rest? I cant care less. I like the rest but I will not sad if they dont return as squadmates.

There were too much squadmates in second game.

ME1, for me, had no real standout characters with whom I really connected, except for Liara (lez yay, mostly). ME2 did have a few of those. Grunt, Mordin, and the New and Improved versions of Tali, Garrus, and Liara were all very well done. Of course, ME2 also had a character I openly disliked (Jack), and I never out-and-out disliked any of the ME1 squaddies, I just avoided the boring ones (most of them).

ME1:

Love: Wrex, Liara, Garrus
Like: N/A
"Meh": Tali, Kaidan (both a bit dull)
Dislike: Ashley (irritating, sanctimonious)

ME2:

Love: Samara, Thane, Garrus, Mordin, Grunt, Miranda, (Liara)
Like: Legion, Kasumi
"Meh": Jack, Tali, Jacob
Dislike (intensely): Zaeed

On the whole I prefer ME2's squadmates. There's no doubt they could have used a few more conversations each though.

I preferred having more chances to characterise Shepard in ME1 dialogue. In just one conversation with Ash you could decide how your Shepard thought about God, poetry, and family. The ME1 squad also seemed a bit more... real. Integrated. I could believe these guys existed in the future. I actually thought Ash and Kaidan are two of the best characters in Mass Effect because they are both believable yet have surprising amounts of depth (Renegade Kaidan is particularly hilarious, go team milky way!).

The ME2 squad was by its very nature over-the-top, you're recruiting the very best fighters in the galaxy so you ended up with all sorts of insane characters. Though not as believable or well integrated into the plot I found that as individuals they were generally superior, they had more dialogue and two missions dedicated to each character to flesh them out.

On the whole I prefer ME2's squad, they're generally better written and more fleshed out. I do miss the Virmire Survivors however.

ME1 crew fit in much better and felt 'right'.... While the ME2 crew felt 'forced' and you were the one gathering them and not them deciding to join you while you're about doing your business.

Dealing with Fist? Great! You're told to either talk to Garrus or Wrex or both and eventually after the Fist thing they join you along. While the ME2 crew? Yeah... Not as much. They all felt like side missions and didn't feel as woven into the story(outside Miranda and Mordin) or awesome as the ME1 crew.

ME1 squad. They had elevator banters, interrupts in dialogues (Ash and Terra Firma), places where you can ask about their thoughts (every location on Citadel has own comment for each party member) and number and length of dialogues were better. In ME2 they seemed to care only about own family issues (minus Mordin, Legion and DLC chars) and about their feelings to Shepard

I don't know.ME1 squad had elevator banters and were better integrated into the main story. On the other hand,ME2 squad had some really interesting characters(Legion,Thane,Mordin and maybe Miranda).I really don't know which one is better, but if I had to choose I'd probably choose ME1 squad.
