Why are people assuming that because the rushed comic(Genesis) was bad, that Mass Effect 3's writing is going to be just as bad or worse? We don't know what was going through the minds of BioWare when they decided to do that comic. For all we know, they probably only rushed it because they want to spend more time on ME3, and less on recapping. Now, there were indeed many things that needed explanation(like the Geth and so forth), so don't think I'm trying to defend the comic itself. Just BioWare.

I understand why the Ash/Kaidan fans are upset, and I'm right there with you, but look at it this way. Liara is the most important squadmate/character in the trilogy(Why? I don't know), and they wanted the player to pursue her over the others because they're not really important(and they're expendable.) Now, I don't think they're going to punish people who didn't choose Liara(because that would be f**ked up.) I'm sure everyone who pursued a different LI will get their due in ME3.

I'm not saying that we need to be all happy and cheery, but we should be at least a little rational about this whole thing.

I think it has something to do with the lead writer of ME3 wrote the comic(s) and is in charge of the direction ME3 takes. and doesn't seem to know the universes lore or continuity properly or maybe it's just the writers don't know how to execute it right.

People don't like being disappointed. Low expectations = less chance for disappointment.

What happened to Drew?

Also I just expect the worst of everything so that I can be pleasently surprised.

Why they sent Drew to work on The Old Republic and not spend time on ME3 is something I'll never comprehend to understand.  Drew's writing is what makes Mass Effect what it is.

Good question.

I think primarily because it seems Bioware is slipping from their former place amongst the "Gold standard developers" and is heading towards the more usual "we're doing this stuff to make a ton of money devs".

I don't know if it's because they just have to many projects running or they simply don't care any more, But it seems like they have just stopped polishing their games, Hell even making patches to combat game stopping bugs (DA awakening) have stopped.

And ME2 while a good game is not as good a game as it could have been if it had a sense of direction and somebody to notice stuff like helmets should be removed from the armor when drinking or talking ..i mean really it's laughable stupid even though it's just a minor detail.

Whats much worse is the complete lack of coherent narrative, ME2 seems to be completely directionless.

- lets kill of Shepard in the beginning because..well hell lets just do it for no reason, Lets also have him/her work for Cerberus because . i don't know it would be cool i guess, we'll make up a reason as we go along.

And whats the primary objective of the game?

- In ME1 people liked the squad mates so let's make the game about gathering squadmates..but this time let's put twice as many in the game.. that will make the players happy.

I meant the story..what does the player hope to accomplish in this game?

- Hell..i don't know..something big with his/her squadmates, Blow up some reaper installation or something it doesnt really matter as long as Shepard comes of as Proactive.

Isen't proactive the kind of words stupid people uses to sound smarter than they really is....i'm fired ain't i?

- Oh yes.

Bioware once stod for polished games with great storylines .. now their style seems to be to just make an reasonalby workerble game with an so-so storyline and consumers can sense that, People who before just blindly bought Bioware games because they knew it would be a good polished experience are now experiencing doubt.

Maybe because Star Wars is a bigger franchise than ME, and Drew found it a better opportunity to advance his career. who knows.

The state of ME2 in terms of narrative (learned that from the "extra credit" videos). The fact that what we got is a result of two years when the first game has its own problems and took twice as long as ME2 to produce. Now, ME3 is rumored to be ready to ship now though it was going to have another two-year cycle. The comics story (narrative) done by ME2's lead writer. LOTSB's cheesy and awful juvenile dialogue. Shepard's animation being a stark contrast to what it was in the first game. Female Shepard moved like a female. Super hero attire. Half-face breathing masks in dangerous areas while skin is partially exposed in those dangerous areas. Using what should have been a dark bit (killing Shepard off) in the beginning of the game instead of the end where it would be put to better use.

I haven't played ME2 in months and this is all just off the top of my head. People were talking about things that would happen when EA assumed direct control of Bioware (I don't care that the drs are V-Ps and such. It could just be honorary titles). Now we have a game that should have given more weight to the universe while at least touching on objectives that should have been the main focus (if not the main focus then equally presented as the collector threat and characters).

My confidence in Bioware is shaken. I've said before that the way I see things here is the way I saw them elsewhere and it didn't turn out good for those who were willing to give the company a chance. With ME3 I see if I look in Bioware's direction again or not in the future.

People are assuming the worst because we live in an age where cynicism is "in," and if you're not cynical then you're weird. Me? I'm one of the weird people. I expect the best, prepare for the worst, and am ready to be pleasantly surprised by the final product, which I'm sure will include details and ideas I never considered.

My 20 years on Earth has taught me that way too many people are cynics. I've heard it said that "idealism precedes experience, cynicism is what follows." If cynicism is following your experience, then you're taking the easy way out and not interpreting your experience right!

Normally I am pretty optimistic, especially in the case of Bioware, since they had earned that. Lately in their case, not so much, at least not where this franchise is concerned. :(
