Hi everyone,

I seem to have a somewhat different flavor of a very common problem on these boards that I don't see the specific answer to. I have a fresh install of DA:O that I manually updated to 1.04. Whenever I try to open it, in administrator mode or not, I get the error "Error initializing PhysX. Please visit http://www.nvidia.com/physx for updated drivers".

I went to the Nvidia website, but the drivers I could find were GPU drivers only supported by Nvidia graphics cards, and I have an ATI card. I tried to install the 'PhysX_9.09.0408_SystemSoftware" application from the software folder on the game DVD, but it won't install with the error "The currently installed version of the drivers is newer than what you are trying to install, aborting the installation."

Any new ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

My system:
OS: Win7 64-bit, fully updated
CPU: i7-950
GPU: Radeon HD 9750, updated drivers
RAM: 4GB DDR3

This is what you want:

http://www.nvidia.co...513-driver.html

Dragon Age runs PhysX on the CPU, not the graphics card, even if you have an NVidia.

Hi!

I have replaced my old Gigabyte 8800GT 512MB (NX88T512HP) to a new VTX3D Radeon HD5770, and I am not able to get the Game to start. I always get an error messgae, says: "Cannot start, because PhysXLoader.dll is missing. ...."

I've downloaded the Nvidia PhysX, but during install, after reading license, it does nothing. I cannot install it, and game cannot start.

My actual PC:

Gigabyte P35-DS3L mainboard

Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 2.2 GHz @ 3.0 GHz

Radeon HD5770

4Gb Geil Ultra DDR2 @ 1092 MHz

Does anyone has an idea?

Thanks

Hmm... I wonder if your old Nvidia drivers are lingering about? Did you uninstall them before pulling out the old board and putting in/installing the drivers for the new ATI card?

Well, my old card's fan was not woring, so it burned a little bit. I uninstalled every Nvidia related stuff after putting in the new card. :(

during PhysX install i can see: In left upper corner a letter "N" with a green spot over it, and only one word "text" in the middle. One button i have to click on it: Cancel :(

Okay... here's a suggestion... but a warning... it's labor-intensive:

First, download a bit of free software called "DriverSweeper".  http://www.guru3d.co.../driversweeper/

Install it and set it aside for the moment.

Next, backup any character data in the My Documents > Bioware > Dragon Age > Characters folder.

Uninstall Dragon Age.   Make sure you manually delete the dragon age folders in "My Documents" and under "Programs" (or Programs x86)

Check under Control Panel > Programs and Features and see if NVidia PhysX is listed there.  If so, uninstall it.

Uninstall your ATI graphics driver.  This will require a reboot.

Launch Windows in "Safe Mode" by hitting F8 before you see the windows boot screen.  Once you're on the desktop (it may take a minute) run DriverSweeper and make sure both the Nvidia and ATI drivers are gone.  Sweep PhysX if its still there.  You may find that they were all removed successfully, but this is good insurance.  Take care not to delete anything else, like audio files.

Next, reboot, and load Windows normally.  Reinstall the latest ATI graphics files.  You'll probably need te reboot again.

Finally... reinstall Dragon Age.  The program *should* put the Physx driver on for you.  If it's successful, patch up and play.

Good luck!

BTW... it is *possible*... though I think it unlikely, that the overheating GPU caused other damage to your motherboard.  Let's table that unpleasant idea for the time being...  espically if your system is stable except for DA.

Is there a way to disable PhysX in the game? I mean to do not use and search it?

I am really going to be crazy....

I sympathize, really.  The short answer is, no, you can't disable PhysX in the game.  Dragon Age will force it to use your CPU, not your video card... the same is true for Nvidia card users, by the way.

Some posters have noted that a failed PhysX installation creates an error in the Windows registry...  one that is not fixed upon reinstallation.  Check out the last post in this thread:

Thanks for all Men, it looks I resolved this issue finally.

Your last comment gave the idea. I reinstalled the Win 7, and was able to install physics.

Now the game is going up, and we will see.

I think I play around 5-6 hours, just to celabrate this big moment :D

You know, it's probably the wiser move.  I am always afraid to do too much in the registry... it's like performing brain surgery on your puppy.  And sometimes Windows just needs a fresh start.  Enjoy!

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, Raen, I'll take a look at that tonight!

I'm not sure how comfortable you are with Regedit, but I did just fix the same problem you were having myself.

"The currently installed version of the drivers is newer than what you are trying to install, aborting the installation."

FYI, I received this problem when I upgraded my GTX 285 to a Radeon HD 5970 Black edition, and had removed all the Nvidia drivers include Physx drivers. I couldn't fix this through normal software options (CCleaner, Disk Sweeper, NVIDIA software etc.), so I opted to "play around" in the registry. I'm running Win 7 64 bit, but I don't think that will matter for what I'll tell you. I went into regedit and did an edit\\find next to seach for entries with physx. I deleted all the single line entries as well as a few entire folders that had multiple physx entries. After I deleted about 60 or so single line items and 4-5 folders, I was finally allowed to install the latest Physx software which I had downloaded off the Nvida web page. Once it was done loading, I restarted my PC. Upon reboot, I was able to play all of the games that were having this error (Mass Effect 2, Counter Strike Source, Metro 2033 to name a few). Just remember to not restart your PC before you are able to reinstall physx, or it may not restart for you.

I hope this helps.
