Dear Mass Effect Fans

Two years before i played mass effect two times. It was, or lets say, it would be a very great game ... but it was waaay to easy. So there was no need to find out all the tactical and strategical possibilities.

Does somebody know A CHEAT TO UNLOCK THE HARDEST DIFFICULT LEVEL?  (mass effect 1, on PC)

I really dont want to play it 2 times through till I get access to the "hardest" level.
Your help is much appreciated :)

Maybe you could find a completed save file for download?

Besides a administrativ question:

Two years before I posted in this forum, is this forum linked to the forum here or independent? http://meforums.biow...html?viewcat=28

I have chosen here the same username as there (with a different email), and it didnt say the name is blocked. so I guess the forum is not linked to the forum here, right? Thats kind of difficult, now I have to post everything there and here.

Erm I'm not entirely sure about this (can't check it either because I'm at work) but I suppose you can just use this program called "CriticalMass" to alter your ingame profile. Just use it and activate the 'distinguished combat medal' achievement and it should unlock insanity difficulty.

Hardcore difficulty should already be unlocked after finishing mass effect just once on any difficulty.

Hope this helps...

great tip this program! :)

about the medal, the program Critical Mass says:
-Medal of Honor: unlocks the hardcore difficulty.
-Distinguished Combat Medal: Reward none (you get it for completing Eden Prime)

I dont find a medal with the description: Unlocks insanity.

So, which medal do I need for insanity?

Dude, thats great. I've sent you a private message with my email. Eihter with the program critical mass, or with a save game, one way will hopefully work.

Thats the best forum I ever met. Never before I experienced such quick and serious answers.

I think you're mixing something up. Here's the info from the wiki page:

You do not need to start a new career to receive these achievements; simply set the difficulty before you finish Eden Prime (so any time before activating the beacon) and do not adjust it subsequently.

Distinguished Combat Medal (25) – Complete 1 Mass Effect playthrough on the Hardcore difficulty setting. Unlocks a gamer pic of Saren for use in your profile and unlocks Insanity difficulty setting.
Have you tried activating it anyway, just to see what happens?

Edit: If you received that savegame already and your problem is fixed then just scratch that last answer Posted Image

I was just writing what I read in Critical Mass. But your description is obiously more completely. So it became clear, that its really the DISTINGUISHED COMBAT MEDAL. Maybe I should as well activate the medal for hardcore, so the program doesnt get confused. thx :)

My problem is, that at moment Mass Effect is not working (like the guy who wrote before you). Dont know if this has something to do with the installation of ME2. ==>  Yesterday morning I installed ME2, then ME1 (want to play it through before ME2 to refresh my memory). ==> When I clicked to install ME1 with the install-menu in german, the program said: "be sure that you lunch install.exe from the right package" ... or something like this. I was unable to install it. But when I changed the install-window to english (by clicking to the canadian marple leaf), installation was working. But then when I wanted to lunch ME1, it goes first inside the configuration.exe (or something like that) to configure the program, and there, everytime I get an error, the program stops.

I did install the program 2 times, allways same errrors. I did uninstall the virus scanner, and with msconfig I disabled in WinXP all not windows services, as if my windows would be virgin, so that no not-windows services are running in the background. Does not help. Shxxxt.. I dont know what to do.

you solution works.

then obviously the description in Critical Mass is wrong, because its says:

"Distinguished Combat Medal:
Requirement: Complete Eden Prime.
Reward: None"

I post it to the coder of critical mass.

Thank you.

At first look its seems to be the right program, it looks familiar. But when I tried to open the new save file (or an old one from last year) it does not work:

"There was an error reading the MassEffectProfile "John00_01.MassEffectSave". No changes can be made to this profile."

Either the problem is that I use now Win7 64 bit professional (last year it was Win XP 32 bit),
or then it is the wrong program,
or a too old version of the program.

Can somebody help? Would be much appreciated :)

You don't need criticalmass, you can use the game console to unlock the achievement of completing game on hardcore. Can't remember the exact name right now. Insanity mode will be available, then.
