How do i start play online on Dragon age origins?

DA is single player only. The only reason for the internet is downloadable add-ins. The game is not a MMO. you were mis-informed somehow??

Towards the end of the manual it refers to online play sponsored by EA, but I don't think that option is available yet.

Actually he might be referring to the 'log in to your bioware account' thing at the splash screen on the bottom left - you need to do this at least once to access any downloadable content and to get your profile and character information uploaded to the web.
