Im sure this is probably a first-time load problem, but i recently got Mass Effect 1 in a game deal from GAME. I installed it perfectly, and the character-creation screen + 3d models works perfectly. Its just the part after that i have trouble with. It continues the first loading screen for a second, then crashes with sound stuttering (Dut.Dut.Dut.Dut etc.) I've been wanting to play ME1 for ages, just im stuck on playing Dead Space at the moment, while waiting for a reply, and it scares the heebie-jeebies outta me. I havent even completed chapter 1. D: If anyone could sort this out, or tell me just to wait it out for countless hours for it to load tell me pl0x. (I waited for about an hour once, toilet, New Mario Bros on Wii, Burnout 3 on PS2, and still nothing, just a sound stutter change (Went from Dut.Dut to Sh.Sh) Another weird thing is when minimized, in one instance, i minimized the game to search for this exact issue on the forums here, and the cutscene voices came up, but i couldnt maximise the game anymore. (Waiting for another hour there aswell) So any help would be appreciated!

Could you at least provide your system specs for a start? It would be fair, don't you think?

Whats your audio driver?

Best way to get the intel we need is to fire up the ME1 launcher, hit Configure, and select Summary under the system menu on the left. Give us all that info, it should be what we need (driver versions and the like)

I'm going to assume you have downloaded and installed the 1.02 patch for Mass Effect, although you havent specifically mentioned it. If you havent, youve been a very naughty boy, and you should send yourself to bed without any supper.

Using HD audio with SP3 can get interesting. MS apparently "forgot" to include HD audio functionality in SP3, when it was included in SP1 and SP2. Theres a few unofficial fixes out there, but the only one I would deem trustworthy would be to follow the instructions from this site:

I do have the 1.02 patch, so ill check that fix. Is it a driver (audio) problem? or is it still a first launch problem?

What antivirus software you running? If Kapersky 2011, that has been shown to have problems with Unreal3 engined games. Uninstall and try something that works, such as Avast or Comodo (both free).

Another thing to try would be to do some error chekcing on your hdd in case you have some bad sectors where the game is installed to.

Right click on your drive, select properties, then the tools tab, and hit the "check now" button in the erro checking section. Select both checkboxes and then hit start.

This can take a decent amount of time to complete, and would be best done as an overnight process to aviod you staring at the screen blankly for hours on end. Although it will automatically try and move any data it find on bad sectors to new, safe locations, you can get read errors from the bad sectors and wind up with corrupted data. A reinstall may be necessary once completed.
