Yes, I am considerably past 40 and I am playing the game. With all the partial nudity in it I wonder how parents are reacting to having their kids play it. And we all know there are parents who will let their kids play it just to keep them from whining.

Personally, I think that  there is a very small minority of the American public with a stupid religious agenda who make so much more noise than their numbers warrant, and harmless human body nakedness is among that group's alway ridiculous worries.  The older you get, short of your death bed, the less attention you pay to such foolishness.

43 The median age for gamers is probably much older than most people think.

34.

LFDog's statement is probably true. Think about it, people my age and older were around at the dawn of home gaming and if you gamed then on the Atari or whatever took your fancy, you will more than likely still be gaming today.

You're never too old to game.

The majority of older active gamers probably started out in the 1970's with tabletop Role Play as teens & college age young people.  A few advenurous more mature adults were also in Role Play and they were also involved in live tabeltop wargaming in the 1960's.  Real Life takes its toll, and games take a back seat to so much else that absorbs free time after age 40 or 45, so they drop out in droves then.

Agreed!!! BG, NWN were definitely my personal replacement to D&D. I could play whenever I wanted and didn't have to suffer schedule conflicts. (plus, the story was good and you didn't get stuck in a "hack and slash" group).

The period from 1975-1988 was a very strong time for role-playing games (I still miss Daredevils, Aftermath and Call of Cthulu). In fact, if you look at today's game engines, the combat systems we did on paper are the same combat systems that lurk inside the game engines.

In fact, isn't the bioware engine a D&D engine? Rule set 3.5 or 4.0?

I digress.

Older players are not an exception, but probably a significant population.

And I know of a few more my age.

And guilty of the D&D thingy :P

Since the "Red Box" I might add.
