WOO VIC-20!
Press play on tape.
I was never lucky enough to have the tape player, so I had to program that game in the back of the manual each time I wanted to play it... at least I had a couple text based cartridges (loved "The Count" )
first comp was vic-20, first video game system was the 2600 with missle command and empire strikes back
oh, and just turned 41 a week ago

42, started out with BlueMax on the C64 and Frontier/Elite on the Spectrum. I still haven't forgiven David Braben for First Encounters.

As for the "culture" comment, would like to know what the poster meant by that? Fact is, game sales have always been good amongst the "older" crowd. And the PC industry knows it and caters to it. Who do you think has the most disposable income??? Plus, when I was 22-25, I sure as hell wasn't sitting home gaming. I was young, dumb and full of ***. I was out partying and chasing tail, not geeking out like I do now!

Without a doubt the Gold Box series on the venerable C=64 is what hooked me on gaming for good.

A mere 51. What a relief to find I'm not the oldest kid on the block.
Isn't it though?

Really? I did not know that. In the environment where I grew up, I didn't know of a single adult that played computer games, and having tried to get a few to try one out, the really seemed entirely disinterested. I guess I formed my view from that; that you had to grow up with games to appreciate them. Glad to hear it if I'm wrong.

I am considerably past 40 and I am playing the game. With all the partial nudity in it I wonder how parents are reacting to having their kids play it. And we all know there are parents who will let their kids play it just to keep them from whining.
Personally, I think that there is a very small minority of the American public with a stupid religious agenda who make so much more noise than their numbers warrant, and harmless human body nakedness is among that group's alway ridiculous worries. The older you get, short of your death bed, the less attention you pay to such foolishness.

Indeed it's sick, I do wish games and movies would have full nudity allready instead of silly obscuring camera angles. All this fighting about the naked bodies that we all have and have seen is the biggest ****ing nothing in history. I do wonder how many people ****s ****** and vaginas have actually hurt or killed.
Reminds of watching Watchmen and facepalming as the crowd giggled nervously at the sight of DR Manhattan's penis. <_<
