Well, 30 something's and even 40 something's generally started playing video games in the early days of personal computers - I started with the C64 myself, and many started with the still earlier computers. At the time (got my first computer when I was 11) and when I was still playing at 16-17, I told my parents that gaming is simply changing the entertainment culture, and is not just for kids. I told them that by the time I was 30, or 40, or older, I'd still be playing, and I don't see any reason I'd stop. I also told them that the average age of gamers would go up as the generation that grew up with computer games reached adulthood, middle age and retirement age.
Looking at this thread, I think that was a correct assesment. I'm telling you, by the time my generation reaches 70, you'd better have retirement homes with gaming rooms, and not just TVs.

I will say that as an older gamer i have signifigantly more resources to throw at my gaming PCs than i have ever had in the past, but my game tastes are much more refined now which males it tricky to find quality games. No car payments, no house payments, real cheap insurance, but most importantly NO KIDS EVER frees up alot of money for my gaming rigs.

I had an Atari console when I was 4. Well, not really, my older brother had it more than me
My first CRPG was Dark Heart of Uukrull in 1990.
I don't like d&d, but I've always loved RuneQuest and Call of Cthulhu. I still play RPGs with my high school buddies from time to time

I also started with D&D a lifetime ago. But after playing Ultima III in 1988 on a friends IBM, I was hooked on computer games. I don't know how many hours I put into Pool of Radiance on my first "computer", a Commodore 64. Been a computer gamer ever since, though, though family, work, and other things take up a much larger portion of my time.
Oh my goodness..I remember Pool of Radiance too. Played it on a computer, a 286..8 mega bites of ram..or was it 16 rofl. Lots of floppies to change. Was my first computer game..1988.
And...I am 50 +
Okay nobody have a heart attack alright?

I started with the pencil, paper, and dice D&D 34 years ago...and now I am looking to play the DA RPG in the same tradition...and on the computer, of course. I'd NEVER give up Alistair

Now I have kids myself, though I my oldest is only 6 - she plays the flash games on the childrens BBC website. (Other parents might find that an age-appropriate place to let their kids look!)
Since this game is rated 18s in europe, I was surprised to see how _young_ some of the players are!

Swordfishtrombone,
WOO VIC-20!
Press play on tape.
(that is all)
Oh, and I'm hearing about a bunch of retirement homes already putting Wiis in their rec centers, so by the time we get there I'm hoping for all sorts of good stuff. After all, it's still a ways off for some of us!
