Jade Empire has Death's Hand and the Toad Demon. Mass Effect 2 had Legion. Dragon Age: Origins had Loghain. I've noticed a secret companion in three of BioWare's titles, therefore they're obliged to put one in every game hereafter.

Who/what do you think the secret companion will be? They're usually a prominent character who can join you late game.

Possible 'secret companions:'
Orsino - Hey, he's important enough that his robes are on the Live store and it looks like there will be Templar/Mage conflict. Maybe if you help the mages gain freedom from the Templars, he joins you.

Cassandra - We know it's a framed narrative, but who is to say that Verric is the only narrator? After Verric tells what he knew of Hawke, Cassandra relates how she met the Champion of Kirkwall and what exactly she's searching for. Within the narrative, we can have her join Hawke's party or not.

Gonna have to agree with Cassandra. I don't think this game will end when Varric finishes the story tbh. We'll see :)

It's usually the 'bad guy' so with my twisted logic I'm thinking it's going to be the Arishok.

I think she's so powerful and enigmatic that the writer will want to keep her as an NPC.

Good point. Having the Arishok would be... interesting.

Was Legion really a secret character? he seemed easy enough to find and get for me, but thats off topic.

I doubt Cassandra since i got the impression that she has never directly met the champion (by directly i mean something real, not an introduction at a party), but thats all my interpretation.

Orsino seems likely, he is in Cassandra's list of suspects (potentially) and it seems like most of the others are potential companions.

However the Bioware trend seems to make your antagonist into an ally (Deaths Hand and Loghain) and we dont really know who a main antagonist is yet. Maybe in the upcoming weeks we shall learn more.

That would be pretty awesome, even if she was a companion for a short time.

I'd much rather the story catch up to the present instead of just switching narrators. As far as secret companions go, I think Cassandra is a good guess.

I think Morinth would be a better example for secret companion than Legion in ME2. He/it/they wasn't much of a secret. :)

Well, if Orsino's an option, by that logic, Meredith should be an option, as well. Frankly, I doubt it, but there's always a chance. I'm leaning more towards Cassandra, though.

Yes, they didn't talk about him beforehand. They disguised his recruitment and loyalty missions in the achievements.

It was just a poorly kept secret.

I doubt Cassandra since i got the impression that she has never directly met the champion (by directly i mean something real, not an introduction at a party), but thats all my interpretation.

The only time we've seen her is when she interacts with Verric, and it's obvious she's not in the best of moods. If she knew the Champion, I see no reason why she'd tell him.

Orsino seems likely, he is in Cassandra's list of suspects (potentially) and it seems like most of the others are potential companions.

I think he's the most likely at this point.

Indeed!

Gaider said in an interview we won't get a qunari companion. He misleads, but he doesn't outright lie. So I'd say the Arishok is out, as awesome as that would have been.

Based on what we know, Orsino/Cassandra seem the most likely candidates. Maybe you'll end up with one of the two based on who you side with (Chantry/Mages).

Meredith?

Why would she be interrogating him if she knew the champion though?

if the arishok were somehow to be disgraced and made to abandon the Qun, would he still be considered qunari?

You know, as i read these posts, Cassandra does seem to be a bit more likely. Especially if the end of the game takes place in the present rather than the framed narrative. On the other hand maybe Cassandra is the antagonist at the end? or maybe the last 'quest giver'? who knows...

we shall see :)

The mercs we saw in DAO were disgraced but still considered Qunari Mercs. (You get the disgraced from the retcon that Qunari without horns are either special (sten) or disgrace/abandoned the Qun (Mercs))

I do not think it would be Cassandra, I have her pegged for DLC an expansion or DA3. I'll guess some kind of beast, non human/elf/dwarf.

It's Grimace from the McDonald's Lore. Cower before his purple fury of death as he spins around with his war mace!

Possible. It might be an Alistar/Loghain thing where you get one or the other.

She doesn't feel like a companion to me, however.

The secret companions are always the least interesting ones to me because they tend to feel awkward within the narrative.
