You too kthe risk and burmed. The frequency of a freeze/corrupt save is higher for some people. Just because the dev says to take a break every few hours to mitigate the chance of a crash, doesn't mean that it's true in every single case.

RISK AND GOT BURNED!? I had no idea of this problem....its not my responsibility to look up whether or not a game is crashing like this, I assume a game this high profile would work.

Yet the devs are only human and mistakes can be made, even when developing AAA titles. Yes, you had no idea of this problem, just like many others.

I think one of the biggest warnings since they invented external memory is "turning off the machine while saving or loading will result in a corrupted file" i've been hearing this since the early 90's, so it seems to me like it should be expected to corrupt your save file if you have to reset while loading

Many games crash during loads and cut-scenes, especially on the PS3....but I've never had my data corrupted because I restarted. I would of thought the gaming industry would have learned from Batman: AA.

This weaksauce defense baffles me. 'Only human and can make mistakes'?
Seriously try and employ this excuse if, in life, you are ever in a position of responsibility, personal or proffesional and you will get laughed out of the room quicker than a BP exec at a Greenpeace meeting and nobody will have any respect for you or think you have any measurable integrity.

Edit: Let me qualify that by saying yes, mistakes are made, inevitable even but because you term it it that does not mitigate the corrosive effect it has on your reputation. Well, outside of gaming where most fans display a masochistic streak wider than the grand canyon and appear to enjoy nothing more than being treated like cretinous imbeciles by developers.

If a mistake is made and you are responsible you man up, apologise without reservation or misdirection and do everything in your power to make amends. In this case a full and total refund should be offered to every person affected by this calamity along with exclusive beta test (NOT retail BioWare, there's a difference) access to Baldur's Gate 3.

Yea just got corrupted Data a few mins ago (started up the game and found it that way... no crash) , was also unaware of this issue until now and before anyone pulls the multiple saves card on me, i had those. It took all but 2 of the saves on my current career and those 2 were 30 minutes into the game (I was at 37+ hours with one game completion). I guess mistakes are made sometimes but that is certainly no excuse for something like this. The corrupted data is irreparable and a method to stop this is not out yet. Anyone who has played this game knows the slight irritating feeling with the load times and i am expected to not only stop to back up every one or two hours hours and restart the game now but also start the game all over again? doesn't sound very helpful now does it

Wow easy there....
First of all almost every game on release has problems
Second of all as we know a ps3 is difficult to develop on thus something unexpected can happen
Also do everything in your power to make amends?
U obviously got on the wrong foot here and consider yourself lucky that u dont have Activision as developers for Mass Effect 2 cause then u wouldnt get either a refund or patch.
And dont tell me u expect a refund on a problem that can be fixed?
The game isnt defective.
There are workarounds if u wanna try and u can even restore your corrupted save data.
You take it too personally!
You need to chill down a bit

My brother encountered this problem this morning. It's so disheartening that this happened since we were both having so much fun with it. He's even said he's not gonna play again if his game saves aren't fixed, (we know it's not going to). This patch doesn't matter to him, he put in massive amount of hours into the game and it's a damn shame it all went to waste.

And again, and again.and again.

This is getting god dam ridiculous.

2 time with 40 hours of play getting corrupted data saves.

This is F%#$^% BS,and unexceptable.

I thought the freezing wouldn't be that bad,but 40 hours of play twice?

I'm calling it................BS.

This thread has 12+ pages, and I dont actually play ME/ME2 or anything else on Console. But Having problems in the past with consoles. and judging from the opening posts. I think part of the problem lies with people playing their consoles for 20+ hours at a time. That's asking for trouble in itself.

I recall playing ME2 on the PC for 24 hours straight. But Consoles aren't designed to be operated for that long. To be honest not even gaming computers are.  But a PC is much more capable of doing it for long periods compared to a console. They overheat and degrade over time.

I was never a fan of the console market whatsoever but I'm sorry to hear about all these problems. I hope it is corrected soon.

The best thing to do guys, is to not play the game until the patch comes out. That way, theres no chance of your save files being corrupted. I haven't played since wednesday, but I'll resume play when it gets patched. I'll be playing Dead Space 2 in the mean time.

I can have my system on for 5 minutes, and as soon as i get to Omega.

When i go through the first door to see Aria it freezes.

This is not a system problem.

And Oblivion was a plague as well.

it's not running 30 fps period.

Today, after 30 hours of awesomness, my game froze loading the normandy right after the mission in the Collector ship. When i tried to reload the game, my save file was corrupted. This is such a good game and im really sad to see something like this happen, i wont be playing again until the patch comes out, but I am very dissapointed.

After 12 hours of game the game crashed while loading. I had to restart the ps3, no other solution, and then my save was and is still corrupted. WTF seriously... I hope the patch will fix MY SAVE back or i just re-sell the game right away.

the game crashed many times but my save never got corrupted. This time it crashed just before the sky car mission (i pick up which teammate i want, it loads and crash).

Uhm guys, you've been warned, haven't you?! I only play 1-2 hours, then make my "security-break" quit the game and backup my save, while holding to the previous backup on a 2nd usb stick...

Same thing happened to "Castlevania - Lords of Shadow" after it's release anyway...

My game froze for the first time yesterday during the saving...after 40 hours of play duringthe last mission. It was my first freeze, I have played all missions and assingments (DLC included). But luckily, my save is okay, I guess I'm just a lucky bastard, but to be honest, now I'm worried to continue the game, next time I shouldn't be that lucky. And now what to do, wait for fix or try my luck.

Overall, this is really weird, some ppl have these freezing issues, some don't. Let's hope that patch will fix this annoying issue.

i Encountered this problem yesterday. im 20 hours into the game and i had just finished off scanning and depleteing the planets in the hawkin eta and caleston rift then finished off the firewalker missions and then started and finished the Dossier:warlord mission. So i was playing for around 2hours 30minutes and the game froze in the loading screen at the end of the mission.

Luckily though ive been copying my progressed save game to my external hard drive everytime i finish playing. So i basically only lost 3 hours of play, sure i was gutted to have to scan all them planest again but it wasnt too bad as i didnt lose all my progress. i have since done all progressed which i lost and gone by the part where it froze and ive now just landed on Horizon.

I honestly think people should lay off Bioware, just be happy they've brought this amazing game to the PS3. If your game freezes and corrupts its not the end of the world, just wait for the fix and play again. Or start a new game but just keep quitting the game every 2 hours or so and copy your save game to a Flash Memory stick or external hardrive.

Yeah, you can. Just pause and go to the options menu. You can change the difficulty from there. If you're playing on insanity though, you shouldn't change the difficulty because then you won't get the trophy(if you care about it anyway).

As there have been many posts on restoring backup save file working / not working, could you pls describe what you exactly did when you restored the save game data from ext-HDD? Simply overwrote the corrupted file with the one from ext-HDD? First deleted the corrupted save game file from PS3 and then copied the backup from ext-HDD? ...or something else?

I 'm asking since i'm also diligently backing up my save games while waiting the worst to happen, however there have been quite many posts saying that restoring the backups simply won't work. But obviously for some cases it does so I'm just qurious did you do something differently than the others :)
