Yet the devs are only human and mistakes can be made, even when developing AAA titles. Yes, you had no idea of this problem, just like many others.MST0101 wrote...
RISK AND GOT BURNED!? I had no idea of this problem....its not my responsibility to look up whether or not a game is crashing like this, I assume a game this high profile would work.

I think one of the biggest warnings since they invented external memory is "turning off the machine while saving or loading will result in a corrupted file" i've been hearing this since the early 90's, so it seems to me like it should be expected to corrupt your save file if you have to reset while loading
Many games crash during loads and cut-scenes, especially on the PS3....but I've never had my data corrupted because I restarted. I would of thought the gaming industry would have learned from Batman: AA.

This weaksauce defense baffles me. 'Only human and can make mistakes'?
Seriously try and employ this excuse if, in life, you are ever in a position of responsibility, personal or proffesional and you will get laughed out of the room quicker than a BP exec at a Greenpeace meeting and nobody will have any respect for you or think you have any measurable integrity.
Edit: Let me qualify that by saying yes, mistakes are made, inevitable even but because you term it it that does not mitigate the corrosive effect it has on your reputation. Well, outside of gaming where most fans display a masochistic streak wider than the grand canyon and appear to enjoy nothing more than being treated like cretinous imbeciles by developers.
If a mistake is made and you are responsible you man up, apologise without reservation or misdirection and do everything in your power to make amends. In this case a full and total refund should be offered to every person affected by this calamity along with exclusive beta test (NOT retail BioWare, there's a difference) access to Baldur's Gate 3.

Wow easy there....
First of all almost every game on release has problems
Second of all as we know a ps3 is difficult to develop on thus something unexpected can happen
Also do everything in your power to make amends?
U obviously got on the wrong foot here and consider yourself lucky that u dont have Activision as developers for Mass Effect 2 cause then u wouldnt get either a refund or patch.
And dont tell me u expect a refund on a problem that can be fixed?
The game isnt defective.
There are workarounds if u wanna try and u can even restore your corrupted save data.
You take it too personally!
You need to chill down a bit

This is getting god dam ridiculous.

This is F%#$^% BS,and unexceptable.
I thought the freezing wouldn't be that bad,but 40 hours of play twice?
I'm calling it................BS.

I recall playing ME2 on the PC for 24 hours straight. But Consoles aren't designed to be operated for that long. To be honest not even gaming computers are. But a PC is much more capable of doing it for long periods compared to a console. They overheat and degrade over time.
I was never a fan of the console market whatsoever but I'm sorry to hear about all these problems. I hope it is corrected soon.

When i go through the first door to see Aria it freezes.
This is not a system problem.
And Oblivion was a plague as well.
it's not running 30 fps period.

Overall, this is really weird, some ppl have these freezing issues, some don't. Let's hope that patch will fix this annoying issue.

Luckily though ive been copying my progressed save game to my external hard drive everytime i finish playing. So i basically only lost 3 hours of play, sure i was gutted to have to scan all them planest again but it wasnt too bad as i didnt lose all my progress. i have since done all progressed which i lost and gone by the part where it froze and ive now just landed on Horizon.
I honestly think people should lay off Bioware, just be happy they've brought this amazing game to the PS3. If your game freezes and corrupts its not the end of the world, just wait for the fix and play again. Or start a new game but just keep quitting the game every 2 hours or so and copy your save game to a Flash Memory stick or external hardrive.

BIoware has finished the patch....just waiting for Sony to approve...anyone know if you can change difficulties mid-way? I want to play on easy to get back to where I was fast.....
Yeah, you can. Just pause and go to the options menu. You can change the difficulty from there. If you're playing on insanity though, you shouldn't change the difficulty because then you won't get the trophy(if you care about it anyway).

As there have been many posts on restoring backup save file working / not working, could you pls describe what you exactly did when you restored the save game data from ext-HDD? Simply overwrote the corrupted file with the one from ext-HDD? First deleted the corrupted save game file from PS3 and then copied the backup from ext-HDD? ...or something else?
I 'm asking since i'm also diligently backing up my save games while waiting the worst to happen, however there have been quite many posts saying that restoring the backups simply won't work. But obviously for some cases it does so I'm just qurious did you do something differently than the others
