Corrupted Save

Ive had a strange issue related to saves.
I was 43 hours into the game (yeah it sucks) and whenever i try to load my game, I get the loading screen, everything looks fine, but then the loading screen freezes and I cant do anything else, I have to turn off my PS3.
The strange part is that my save data doesnt show up as corrupted, it looks fine and yet I cant play.
Now I really dont want to pick up ME2 again, its frustrating, I had everyone loyal, I was pretty close to finishing the game and then this happens.
This happened a short time after completing The Shadow Broker DLC while I was running around the Normandy.

The game froze during a loading screen and after resetting, the save file was corrupted. My game session was running for just an hour - so even the workaround seems useless.
I really cannot explain how I feel right now, it's just sick.
If you know that there are save game issues why the hell are ALL savegames in one file? Or in other words: Why do we lose our whole ****ing progress even if we carefully make lots of seperate saves for such cases???
I'm never buying a Bioware product again. Enjoy your cooperation with EA...

Hello everyone.
We are aware that a small group of Playstation 3 users are getting corrupted saves while playing Mass Effect 2. We are aware of the issue and we are working on a patch to fix it. This issue is caused by too many level transitions within a single gaming session. Players who play for an extended period may encounter this issue.
In the mean time, there is a very simple work around to prevent this issue. Simply restart your game every few hours. By shutting down and restarting your game, you will not encounter the corrupted save issue.
So take a break from Mass Effect2 by shutting down your game, say hello to your loved ones or take the dog for a walk and then restart and keep playing.
This is NOT true...
The sequence of events leading to the corrupting crash:
I started my PS3, ME2 and loaded my recent save file.
I was right at the point where I need to talk to the Unknown to start the Ghost Ship mission.
I directly walked to the communication panel, talked to the Unknown, went through all dialogue options and started the mission.
I only played this single mission! I died once during the fight on those platforms when EDI is hacking the terminal and once during the fight against the Praetorian (the boss kind of guy, I don't know the english name). Both times I used the continue option.
Afterwards I finished the mission, got to the mission complete screen and saw the cut scene of the Normandy escaping. During the next loading screen, the game crashed and the save file got corrupted.
I was logged in to the EA servers and had Auto Save enabled. My gaming session was running for roundabout 90 minutes (probably a bit less than that).
Short version to answer your specific questions:
Specifically if you can say:
1> where the crash occurred that
caused the save to become corrupt (ie loading from Horrizon to the
Normandy or Right after the fight with the Yahg)
After the Ghost ship mission. Loading screen after Mission complete screen or after cutscene where the Normandy escapes the ghostship using it's warp. I can't remember which was the latter event.
2> How many levels in a row you played beforehand (Ie you played through the prologue through to Horizon in a single sitting)
I only played through the Ghost ship mission. Nothing else was done during this session.
3>
How long you were playing concurrently beforehand (ie you had the game
running for 40 hours straight without rebooting the console)
Roundabout 90 minutes. Maybe a bit less.

My saved data was more than 30 hours, I was trying to do everything as perfect as I could. I was in the mision where you find Legion, and at the end of it, when I was going back to the Normandy, the loading screen stoped, I waited and nothing happened, so I restart my PS3 and start again ME2 and in the main screen it only said new game!!!
I won't play it again until this bug is fixed. I don't like wasting my time.

Even if I start over, how can I know it will not happen again? One should not play a game in terror.
Please keep posting, so EA and Bioware know the issue is not been taken care of.

Wait, please don't tell me you guys were only playing with one save? I hear that all the time and it blows my mind. RPGs, guys, 10 save minimum.
On the other hand, if all your saves got corrupted then that is just nuts. I ended my session last night with a freeze. Hopefully I'll have no issues when I go home to play tonight.
True that! Actually I have 39 FFXIII saves and normally have around 20 for every RPG I have. A bit paranoid with saving as well so though this glitch sucks and needs to be looked at, I'll be prepared. Though if it affects all of the simultaneously we have a problem...
I had 97 saves on kingdom hearts. 97. I like to try and make it so if i learn about something i missed i can go back to that spot to fix it and play from there.
I never do.

That is not the issue. Once the bug bites all your savegames are lost, even if you have hundreds of them...

i hadnt played for more than 2 hours in that session and had not played many levels. I left from Illium, back to Normandy, then went on to play the mission that Garrus needs help with and then on to the Collector vessel...
thats 40+ hours down the drain. hope you come up with a solution fast

game crashed right after i finished with the collector vessel that i had to investigate following the illusive man's request. The autosave performed correctly but the game froze when it was loading after the cutscene where the Normandy evaded the collector ship's attack.

This was fixed in the first patch that was made available so if you download the latest patch you should not have to worry about this anymore.

She has tried restarting the PS3 with no luck, any suggestions for this? She has completed the rest of the game with no issues, it is only this one piece of DLC causing her concern and it would be a crying shame if she couldn't experience it because of a stuipid glitch.

My game just crashed, and I lost ~25 hours worth of precious game time. No way I'm gonna start all over again any time soon..
There has been a lot of talk and promises about fixing this bug, for a long time, but has anything actually happened? Does anyone know that Bioware has done anything to repair this really annoying problem?

I was loading a game save from The Shadow Broker Ship when power was disrupted. I had been playing less than an hour. Upon turning my system back on all my game saves (30) for the character I have been playing with were gone. In their place was a single file in the "Saved Data Utility" in a folder of its own labeled as "unknown" and corrupted size1973kb A0009. The only other save I had was a second career that I hadn't progressed past Lazarus Station. Oddly it's 2 save files were there. Credit for having beaten the game (with the save files that were corrupted and missing) was retained - Heavy weapons not retained.
Complaint 2nd:
You'd think I might have learned from DAO when I lost 40+ hours of gameplay without the ability to back up game saves to expect this. However, I thought with Bioware porting their own game themselves that things would be different this time... ...This time I lost 60+ hours of ME2 gameplay and 30 corresponding saves due a single crash while playing. I can understand and expect a single file to become corrupted, but every single file for one character/career lost from one crash? Did no one test this? How are these all linked in such a way that they fall like dominos when one is tipped over? A game crash should not do this! 30 different saves should not be treated as one save! Bioware = Great games with fatal flaws.
IS there any confirmation that one can in fact back up a "character file" to a flash drive and repopulate it in case of the file being corrupted? The two threads on this topic are enormous.

From reading these forums, this problem isn't from a small group of users. And it's not from extended use you retarded people at bioware. Mine froze within 10 mins of me turning it on. I come Back after rebooting ps3 only to find my save file missing, and it leads me to this forum.
So **** YOU BIOWARE, and **** you too ps3. I'm going back to playing on the computer, it may be small screen, but none of this bull****. Someone ought to sue for fraud, as I will no longer support any game from bioware. How do you **** up a game you spent so much time on?
This is more aggravating then the time my ps2 hard drive got wiped and I lost my final fantasy 10 save file on the last couple bosses of the game.
I'm going to harass Sony store for my money back until they do it, cuz this game is TRASH!
