but... did it crashed during saving?

Nope. His game crashed just before car chase during LoSB. He got backup files of his savegame file made prior to crash and still couldn't load them. This is how he described it. I really don't know the details apart from that he owns PS3 Slim 250 GB, and he was signed in PSN when crash occured.

e to tak samo jak ja i wiekszosc ludzi ;D

I mean that is the way we all loose our saves. Mostly. I did.
And mine game crashed couple minutes from now during garrus recruitment mission and xlosing shutter but no data was corrupted (yay!)

Specifically if you can say:
1> where the crash occurred that caused the save to become corrupt (ie loading from Horrizon to the Normandy or Right after the fight with the Yahg)
2> How many levels in a row you played beforehand (Ie you played through the prologue through to Horizon in a single sitting)
3> How long you were playing concurrently beforehand (ie you had the game running for 40 hours straight without rebooting the console)

PS3 40

1 - The crash occured at the first loading screen after choosing which squadmate would accompany Shep and Liara in the car during the LOTSB DLC

2 - Unsure what constitutes a level but....

3 - ....I had been playing between 3 and 4 hours

The most important thing I need to know is whether we are able to use backed up save files (I've been copying my saves across to a USB stick) in the event we encounter a similar problem.

1> Skycab, Shadow Broker mission, right after deciding which team member to keep.  Froze during loading screen, like so many others.

2> Happened at the end of a day of playing in which I had done the following missions: recruited Grunt, recruited Jack, Horizon mission, Overlord mission, and Zaeed's, Jacob's, and Miranda's loyalty missions.  Turned console off sometime for a break in the middle of that, though, and don't remember where.

3> Had been playing for roughly 10 hours, with the aforementioned break, though.  Maybe 6 hours of continuous usage?

Using 250GB PS3 Slim, little over a year old.

1> Just selected characters for Shadow Broker sky car, then went to loading screen, which froze and corrupted data

2> No idea how many levels played before hand

3> Played 4 hours before the freeze

Could you guys please answer one more question, were you connected to psn while save corrupted?

Just wonder if playing offline can avoid this problem.

I believe I was connected to PSN.  I usually have auto sign-in turned on.

I also had the autosave turned on.  Some posters in the other thread mentioned that this apparently has something to do with it.

Anyone know where an official response to this would be posted? Want to know, because I don't wanna return a game if I miss an update which states they're gonna fix the issue (and in retrospect don't wanna keep a game in which they ignore an issue that prevents me from playing the game).

Here's my info (so happy you guys are actively working this):

1: Game crashed just as I was about to enter the observatory during Tali's recruitement mission. It froze just as I clicked the door to open and had been playing for roughly 2 hours.
2: I really don't remember how many levels I played through in that sitting. I would gues 1-3
3: I would say the console would not have been on for more than about 5 hours max from powerup.

Hey Bioware, just wanted to say many of us are rooting for your success in developing a patch to fix these issues. It doesn't take away from the fact that Mass Effect 2 is an awesome game. Keep working hard on the solutions! Cheers!

Err the fact that you can't FINISH the game doesn't 'take away' from it? Are you insane?

BIOWARE my girlfriend just lost 30 hours because of this unbelievable bull****, there's a problem with your shadow broker DLC that is completely corrupting peoples saves. You should be sued for violating the trade descriptions act you ****ing amaeturs.

Why are you asking your customers to beta test your game?

Oh, and you know, an apology instead of your deafening silence would be nice but that would indicate you have a modicum, a quantum, of respect for your customers which you obviously do not.

Let's face it. I loved Bioware for all that they did so far, but ME2 PS3 release is an epic failure. It should have been a perfect launch. They entered new market with one of the company's flag products and failed heavily. Really i can imagine only two worse things than loosing 30h save with no backup option. First, a game bug which is able to ruin your hardware and second, when game is just unplayable due to technical issues. I am afraid that PS3 owners now will think twice before they invest their hard earned money in DA2 or ME3. Shame on you Bioware, you are just too good for that.

One save file. Pefect chance of corruption. No possibility of backup. Pretty acceptable... for an alpha code.

The thing is, it's worse than not being able to play at all because there's zero investment of time on the players part, but in this scenario you can have somebody put 30 hours or more into something, enjoying it all sure but still investing a heavy amount of time, and then all that is just wiped.
If you wanted to intentionally design a sadistic game, it would do this.

DA2 is still Bioware product, and consumers can loose trust because of bad experience with previous titles. It was just an assumption. I am not claiming that DA2 will be bad, it may be perfect. If you feel better when you call someone a derp and add fancy photo, enjoy. I just don't care.

Just signed up to these forums solely due to this issue. This is simply unacceptable. I downloaded the full game/dlc off of the playstation network the hour the game was released. 15 hours later i was actually able to play the game ;) whopper of a download that one was. Anyhow, I get about 6 hours into the game, and as i am coming back to my ship from omega, my ps3 gets STUCK on a loading screen. Being patient, I sat there for a good 10 minutes before finally admitting that something was wrong (I hadn't saved for awhile so turning off my ps3 wasn't option number 1). I pressed the PS button and went to quit game, since it was only "loading" and not saving. Yellow indicator light was NOT on. The system then restarted itself instead of simply quitting back out to the xmb. My ps3 then greeted me with the friendly message "YOUR SYSTEM'S HARD DISK IS CORRUPTED AND WILL BE RESTORED"........ I cursed for a few minutes, then pressed OK, since it was the only option left to me. My system did a 15 minute restore, got to 100%, restarted and gave me the same friendly message "YOUR SYSTEM'S HARD DISK IS CORRUPTED AND WILL BE RESTORED".... I sat there jaw agape..... and pressed OK again. It restored again, got to 100%, restarted, and gave me the same damn message............. So I had to go online and figure out how to play a game of morse code with my ps3 on button in order to boot it in safe mode. THEN i had to restore my entire hard disk from safe mode just to get my ps3 FUNCTIONING again!!!!

BEWARE!!!!! This glitch is MUCH more worse than it appears, as it threatens all data on your ps3, NOT just your mass effect saves. I LOST EVERYTHING!! My ps3 was one of the new 320gig models that came out with the playstation move. There went black ops, Assassins creed brotherhood, and much much more. Not to mention all my photos, movies, and music stored on my system. HOW IN THE HELL DID YOU RELEASE A GAME IN SUCH A STATE????!!???

Anyhow, I am a determined soul, so i REINSTALLED the game again and started over. I assumed it was simply an error on my behalf and that such an issue would surely be an isolated case. So I gave bioware's game another chance and played it for another 30 hours, did a TON of side missions, most of the loyalty missions, and LOW AND BEHOLD!!!!! I get stuck on another neverending load screen during the shadow broker mission............. i quit out of the game again, and the ps3 restarted! It did however go to the xmb, and didn't force me to restore the hard disk. So i load up my game thinking its all good.......wrong.......data corrupted.......my shepard was erased from the books.......

Bioware, WTF????? Have you heard of Q A testing? You honestly expect your consumers to believe that you had never ONCE encountered this data corruption error during any of your testings? This is all just truly unacceptable.

maybe the real designer of ME2 PS3 is Jigsaw?

an you know that we will have to wait for a month for a patch?
i'm quoting someone at Treyarch from Bug Ops but they are defending themselves releasing crap game like BO so it maybe looks different. I don't belive devs anymore.

This is how patching process looks like (that is being said by Treyarch, remember)

  • Phase 1: Gather feedback, reproduce reports and implement solutions.
  • • As soon as the game is released, we scour the forums and play online with fans to gather feedback.

  • The QA team reproduces all feedback reports in a test environment,
enters them into our database, and assigns them to dev team members.
    • o
Like any scientific process, reports must be reproduced in the test lab
before they can be addressed. With millions of users playing the game,
something reported by only a small number of users may not be easily
reproducible. For this, it’s important that all reports in the forums
provide as much helpful information as they can.
  • • Estimated time: Generally 2 weeks
to build a comprehensive list, reproduce in the test environment,
research cause, and implement solutions. This phase is typically the
longest part of the process and can easily take more than 2 weeks,
depending on the number and complexity of reports. Once a game is
released, every change made is high risk, and adequate time is needed to
    implement the best possible solution.

    Phase 2: Test internally.
  • • Once the highest priority reports have been resolved, the updated game goes through a rigorous internal testing procedure.

  • If new issues are discovered or the original issue is not fixed
appropriately, more time is needed to research and implement new
solutions. Video games are highly complex pieces of software. Every
change made has a potential impact somewhere else in the game, so the
entire game has to be tested with each update.
  • • Estimated time: Minimum of 1 week to thoroughly test the entire game and internally approve the update for release.

Phase 3: Console manufacturers test and approve the update for release.

  • As soon as our QA team has approved the update internally, it is then
submitted to the console manufacturers for their own testing and
approval. At this point, it is out of our hands.
  • • If the game
update is approved by the console manufacturers, the cycle is done and
the update is prepped for release. If the game update is rejected, an
accelerated version of the entire process starts again.
  • • Estimated time: Minimum of 1 week to get an approval.
    • o Note:
PC patches do not require manufacturer approvals, but because of the
high number of variables in computer hardware and OS configurations,
both Phase 1 and Phase 2 require additional time that does not exist on
consoles which have standardized hardware. The PC patch development
cycle takes about the same amount of time start-to-finish as that of
      consoles.

The most rudimentary level of testing would have picked this up, which means either that wasn't done or it was found to occur at a frequency deemed acceptable versus the cost of delay to fix.

Now, call me a cynic but I wonder which it was..

If you really want semi-decent EA support. Call them The 30 minute wait is worth it. Talking to an actual human being, eventually you can ask for their supervisor, and that will give the proper motivation to get the help you need.
