OK listen BIOWARE.
I am absolutely fed up with developers launching bugged or untested software.
Why the hell are the savegames backup-protected?! Seriously, WHY?
What you COULD do for us is, bring out a little patch NOW that removes the backup-protection. Then we could at least save our savegames to an USB-stick and restore the file in case of a crash. In the meantime your (paid) devs could do what they were paid for. I paid 60 € for a software that simply deletes my efforts and that prevents me from saving my game?!
But no, that´s probably "not possible for technical reasons" or some other kind of idiotic reason.
DO something. This message spreads quicker in the internet than you might imagine.
I haven´t preordered Mass Effect 2 to wait for you guys releasing a bugfix for a problem that shouldn´t even exist.
If we don´t have a solution this week then this was the last game from bioware that I´ve spent money on. Cancelled my Dragon Age 2 preorder by the way.
errr... you can backup your savegame...
I can make a backup of my hard-drive, yes. Including 300 GB of Data. I can´t copy my savegames to an USB-Stick though...
Yes you can. The only thing you cant copy is the "profile data" but it has nothing to do with the saved games themselves. Its just information about your game options, selections etc.

but no corrupt savegames.. and i am NOT connected to EA servers... (its absolutly absurd for a non-multiplayer game i think)

to restart mid-save. If the freezing occurs mid-save then this could
prompt a restart of the PS3, potentially corrupting the file. Bioware is already working on a patch for this problem.

much like mulit-coloured-rainbow ethnicty effect 2 (that's my idea bioware! How dare you steal my ideas!) I quit the game and upon loading up the game, my safe file seemed perfectly fine, I loaded up the game file and it went back to the normal texturing.
I only mention this in case it is a part of the problem people are facing here and I thought it might be able to solve what ever is going wrong with the game and if it isn't then other people who've experianced a similar problem to me might not realise that quitting and reloading the safe file reverses the effects (like I've said above)
This won't put me off getting Mass Effect 3 and other people shouldn't be put off either (to be honest my TVs being repaired after a fly went into the screen so I can't play Mass Effect 2 anyway)

It's no fun playing a game, wondering if you are only seconds away from losing 30 hours play time - it really takes the pleasure out of the game.

You can copy the save part of the data to a USB stick/anything external, but it is moot, as once a data corruption has occured, when you copy it back it still will not restore the origional data.

I have been playing my current profile for about 8 hours or so, had to restart the PS3 due to a crash twice (once during fight with the gunship in Archangel mission, once during the gunfight in the 'help Zaeed' mission with the fires), no corrupt data though.
I'm gonna play with auto-save turned off 'till we get a patch.

Maybe this question was already asked but...since the problem for the corrupted data seems to be that it crashes during auto-save, how about just turning off auto-save? Not the most elegant solution but as a temporary fix this could work, right?

Thats no use man, it corrupts those even without autosave, beware!

Interesting. I've been playing for over 60 hours now with no major glitches aside from 4 freezes. Despite the issues, this is still an awesome game!
That right there is the problem, if it wasn't an awesome game, then I'd simply return it. The fact it is one of the best games I've ever played, it makes the fact that I CANT play it extremely frustrating.

BioWare, please stop copy-protecting ANY AND ALL save files. I've been angry about this practice ever since my first PS3 died and I lost a bunch of saves because Sony's repair center sent me back a new unit, and my backup did not restore all of my saves. If you must lock save files, please lock them by PSN ID. I know it's possible. If you can't figure out how to do it, ask Bethesda, since they got it working several years ago.
I bought DAO and have hardly touched it because it's got copy-protected saves. I thought ME2 was in the clear, but apparently backups of these saves don't do squat... I wouldn't have bought it if I knew this. Please stop this anti-customer practice.

I think a lot of you are unfairly attacking Bioware about the issues of the game. Yes it is wrong to release a game with a huge issue, but remember it is on a new engine and ported to the ps3. There are going to be issues. It is going to get patched soon anyways.
If it was a simple clipping error, or minor freezing, that'd be fair enough.
But when a game is designed where all saves are in one file, and THEN having the potential to corrupt said file, that is exactly the kind of thing they deserve to be attacked over.
That said, I haven't attacked them once, It's a stupid mistake to make, and indicates either a lack-of testing, or supreme ignorance, and it'll all be water under the bridge if they'd just UPDATE US on wtf is going on.
Right now, we've had no feedback on what they're doing, and THAT is unacceptable.
If they have time to use twitter to show off pictures people have drawn of their sheppards, then they have the time to write a quick line saying "we're trying to isolate the problem" or "updates will be available soon", hell, any mention of the matter would be good..

Unfairly attacking bioware? You're kidding right? Look into the gaming industry kid, there is a whole department dedicated to finding bugs and errors like this! Its called Quality Assurance, QA testers get paid alotta money (used to work as one myself at THQ a few years back) to sit on their ass all day and attempt to find/report all bugs. They work for a game for weeks/months before a games release, and make tweaks and changes on every new build of the game. THEY GET PAID TO FIND THESE THINGS OUT BEFORE RELEASE!!!! Now come on, use a little bit of common sense, with ALL the people having these issues, there is NO WAY that at least one or two QA testers didn't notice these data corruptions/infinate load screens/ audio out of synch/ rainbow color glitches! It basically boils down to two options, and both point to Bioware
1. It was either a pure incompotence on both the designers and the QA team lacked to find any of these gamebreaking flaws.....
or
2. It was pure incompotence on the designers, the QA team found all reported bugs, but bioware decided to not delay the launch, released it as is, and then is asking the consumers on the forums to continue the QA testing because they KNEW about the problem, but simply didn't know how widespread it would be.
Pick your option, one of those is true.

The game is great and all, but is it so difficult to put save files in separate files?
To those who say why you need more than 1 save file on an rpg...
1. times like these
2. if you miss something you can just go back to the previous save
3. if games have multiple endings with differing requirements you make multiple saves...games like Atelier Rorona require something like this.
I usually have 99 saves for almost all my games, even non rpg games.
