He also said that all Qunari are not the same and cannot be quantified into a sentence, to be more precise

- "Get used to disappointment. People are not simple. They cannot
be defined for easy reference in the manner of: 'the elves are a lithe,
pointy-eared people who excel at poverty.'"

Basically, all Qunari are not the same and it would be foolhardy to believe that they ALL share the same code of honor, the same behavior, attitude and beliefs as Sten. A "Qunari Invasion" and a "Qunari Empire Invasion" (assuming it's an empire?) are also vastly different concepts, just because an army of Qunari invade does not make it an 'official' invasion.

I do however miss that feeling of lore having a path that you somewhat know, but are getting more information on, over time.  This is lost when they are, essentially, making **** up as they go along.

And how exactly is the party banter in Origins, and Sten explaining at the end of Origins that a qunari invasion is inevitable, just "making **** up as they go along"? That's illogical as hell.

Ahh so the treaty needs to be ratified and they will refuse to do so..

But invasions don't begin in the blink of an eye. They would have had to prepare and the trip from Par Vollen and Seheron are far. Which means they were sailing to war before the treaty expired! so dishonour on them!.......

I guess I will have to wait come Dragon Age II to determine whether or not Sten is a filthy rotten Liar... But I will probably make a thread saying he is and link it to this one anyway regardless of whether or not he is or not... Which he is!

My beef with Sten on this issue is he talks about this and in the same breath condems others for striving to be outside the little boxes that the Qunari put their people.  He in fact does define his own people in very narrow terms.

Deon, you will find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view. Sten was a good friend. When I first knew him, that Qunari was already a great warrior. But I was amazed how strongly the Qun was with him. I took him at his word that the Beresaad would not invade. I thought that I could understand his alien notions of honour. I was wrong.

He is a hypocrit and probably the most irritating character in Dragon Age Origins, he claims he wants to die or redeem himself and yet runs off the second he disagrees, that or he fights you. He claims all Qunari are the same and follow the ways of the Qun when clearly he did not, when he slew an entire family in blind rage. He's multifaceted, a hypocrit and at the same time an honorable man in his own ways and thinking.

He has probably lived his life in relative isolation in his homeland where his only contact has been other Qunari, the only reason he came to Ferelden was because he needed to answer the question "What is the blight?". His sudden exposure to a new culture and his very arrogant and thick behavior leads him to think that everyone else is wrong and he is right.

I'm pretty sure not all Qunari are the same as Sten even if they do live in a very strict code and those who deviate are probably cast out forever. What a Qunari considers to be honorable and what a human/elf/dwarf considers to be honorable may or likely are entirely different concepts, such as what others may consider an invasion - they just consider expansion.

Sten was still in the top 3 best companions in origins though... Zevran was probly the best, he is rediculously awesome after all.

Sten may be an annoying hypocrit who thinks his beliefs and he himself is better then everyone else. But he was still pretty awesome

Not only is Sten a liar. He steals cookies from plump children too. Honourable Qunari indeed!

However in all seriousness, this is politics. And when it comes to politics, honour and keeping your word, they usually go out the window. The Qunari are a race that spread their religion through conquest. So an invasion was inevitable, and as the codex states. "It's a shaky peace."

Sten isn't a liar. As someone as said before me. "He's an idealist and Naive" and ignorant.

This make perfect sense to me. I mean, within the Codex entries we already know that even among humans there isn't one accepted idea on these things. The Avvars for example wouldn't view a treaty as being a perminant thing,

Interestingly the Chantry does the same, but they do it through politics and if someone refuses then an exalted march may occur. The Qunari however in the eyes of some may be seen as conquerers, but they probably don't see what they do as any different from what the Chantry does. They both want to spread their word, beliefs and way of life to everyone else because they believe they are right and the others are wrong. So really, are any of them right? Are any of them wrong?

It is likely a Qunari will not lie, they will say what they want and do it when it suits them or when the time is right. They will likely not hide under any banner of peace but come with swords, bows and fire.

I did think that after I posted. Someone would mention the Chantry, because yes they do the same. At least from the sound of things, the Qunari don't appear to side step on the issue, since their wars are, to my knowledge, about spreading the Qun around Thedas.

It's funny that I happen to find this thread when I did because I was reading about the Qunari and the Qun; they struck me as a people that we're a combination of Islam and Japanese Bushido, I hope that there is more interaction from the Qunari in DAII that just fighting them, (if there is link me please) because since Sten I've just been really intrigued by them.

This maybe true but's the ultimate cop out to never be held accountable for ones words or deeds. Oh....you thought I meant I would have peace for 500 years and not attack by me signing this silly document . What I really meant was that as soon as we gained enough strength we would attack again."

I'm not familiar with the specifics of the treaty in question but once you sign a document presented to you by others you are accepting their truth, not yours.

You have a good point.. So how will the Qunari explain this one?
