Thats just it, there was no real point to put a romance with a cricket in the game. And why does it always have to come down to sex? if you need to bump uglies, as you so put it, why do you risk your life to grind against a scaly carapace? Just doesn't make any sense to me...

Because of looooooove

Well, I guess there are people who get confused about what makes a good mate.. Humans? nah, farm animals and such... I can see it now...
:Honey, I'm home!
:mooooooooooooo!

The fact you compare Garrus to a "farm animal" shows how little your opinion is worth.
Also, why does your heart belong to Liara? She's a squidhead, not a human.

Hypocrisy is boring.

You know, it was funny when I did it, because no one takes me seriously.

You? Not so funny.

I don't understand. Nothing about my post was meant to be amusing, or related to you, so you have no reason to post just to insult me.

But there are parts of male turians (see: the whole neck and back of the head) that are still uncovered by the plating even on males. So maybe it's the skin itself, not the plating that's protective? (either that or their brains are down in their chest cavities, haha)

It is the skin.  The Codex says so:

To deal with this, most forms of life on Palaven evolved some form of metallic "exoskeleton" to protect themselves. Their reflective plate-like skin makes turians less susceptible to long-term, low-level radiation exposure, but they do not possess any sort of "natural armor". A turian's thick skin does not stop projectiles and directed energy bolts.

Yeah, it says "plate-like", but that obviously can't refer only to the facial stuff, because they clearly don't have those things everywhere, and they never have.

But Liara's scalp is very turian-esque, wouldn't you say? Also, Liara can "meld," which is definetly not "human."

Yes, it is. They obviously have no understanding that Garrus is avian, not a "bug," and why does his appearance matter? Appearances are superficial, even in humans. I play as manshep, so obviouisly I don't romance Garrus, but he isn't ugly, he just doesn't look like a human. If you truly care about somebody, appearances shouldn't matter.

If Garrus's scalp was the only inhuman thing about him you might have a point.

But it's not: beady little eyes, exoskeleton plates, razor-sharp teeth, mandibles, three-fingered hands, three-toed feet, body spurs on the backs of the legs, insectoid mandibles (listed twice for emphasis)...

And what asari can do with their minds isn't human, but it doesn't take away from physical appeal, which is what's being compared.

So, again, it's not hypocrisy.  And if Garrus's romance (or Tali's) wasn't physical then I'd personally have no problem with it.  But it is...

The point is Liara still isn't human, however much she appears to be, which is what sunnie or whatever was rambling about.
Also, there's no sex scene with Shepard and Garrus, even though the romance starts with sex talk.

But I am getting away from the discussion, so I shall cease posting.

Back on track here,
The point is this is a case of bad biology.

Turians need the exoskeleton plating to protect themselves from the extra radiation of their sun. If a "female" turian lacks the actual needed plating for protection (in this case the fringe and neck plates) ...

Turian male, codex image:

Image IPB

Note the complete lack of neck plates.  Note the lack of plates on large areas of the head.  Like, none in the back and a good deal of the sides.

Doing it with Garrus is xenophilia. Doing it with Liara is xenophilia. Doing it with Thane is xenophilia. Doing it with a varren is bestiality. Mind-melding or not, they're all aliens.

No matter how "human" one perceives a particular alien to be, the undeniable, unchangeable reality is that the alien is NOT human. Period.

The qualifier differentiating beastiality and merely interspecies relations is sapience and asari as well as turians qualify for sapience. Therefore it is the height of hypocrisy to claim that sex/a relationship with one sapient alien is fine, but sex/a relationship with another sapient alien is not fine.

As amusing as the trolls can be, this is becoming woefully off-topic. So, in an effort to remain relevant to the actual topic: I hope BW will come out with a statement or something, although I can't expect it of them. Would be nice to know what's up with the fringeless femTurian.

That's what Patrick Weekes said...

An easy explanation for asari attraction comes from their codex entry. Their melding process is essentially electrochemical manipulation to sync nervous systems. Once you've got a race syncing nervous systems, it's fairly simple to get to the level of attraction.

QFT

@Sunnie
Cause' if it doesn't look human it's bestiality right? So much for sentience being the qualifier for a people, they just have to look vaguely human.

No I think the fact that he isn't human. And I am not hating on Garrus, I like Garrus, I like Turians also, I just think some of you people are going off into the extremes of impossibility and trying to rationalize your thinking with denial of nature and the fact that interspecies breeding is not naturally possible in any way shap or form. I could see a romance with Garrus as plausible, if, and only if, sex is not part of the equation, because it's not biologically possible. They way some of you talk, he's hung like a horse, when in reality, there's more likely to be a cloaca.

As far as Liara, I value the relationship she offers, not the wild sex. And if you want to get technical, Asari are compatible with any other spicies because they dont have "sex" as we know it to procreate. Like I said, if you love Garrus for the relationship and friendship, thats fine and I am happy for you. Just don't go on and on about sex, becuse, it's not even plausible.

Get back to discussing female turians, otherwise I'll deem this thread to have run its course and lock it. And I'll be irate at the ones who drove me to lock it. Thank you.

"Interespecies breeding?" Do you honestly think anybody is trying to breed with any of the Li's?

And how do you know sex is impossible with Garrus? He's a fictional character from a fictional game! The writers wrote it to be possible, not you, so I don't see why your claiming it's impossible from a game point-that's like me saying using weapons is stupid because mass effect technology is impossible.

Anyway, back on topic, does anybody know when the next issue of evolution comes out? We might see more female turians then, I suppose.

Edit: Sorry Pacifen, I posted before I saw your post.

Closing the subject: Garrus has...errm...reach. So no cloaca. And judging by Mordin's interest in the subject, sleeping with turians is definitely possible if you make the right preparations. Yes, I really do like the relationship, and sex isn't really important.

Back on-topic, no, sadly I do not know when the next issue of Evolution is coming out. That female turian isn't so bad; I'm sure BW will do a lot better if ME3 features female turians. At least we got females for one species.

I'd like to see an attractive female Turian. Partly because it'd be an impressive bit of design and partly because I reckon Garrus is a handsome devil, so it's only fair.

Also because i'm very shallow
