Awhile back, I thought I saw a thread where someone was asking how to make a black and white area and I thought  they did not get an answer.  I searched and couldn't find it now, so I'm starting a new thread.

I accidentally turned one of my areas black and white when I turned off the sky light and ground light and then accidentally clicked true on "desaturate color".

I played with desaturation a lot a while ago. I think the amount must be somewhere between 0 and 1 (not looking at the toolset right now, so I might be wrong), so 0.5 would be half desaturated, 1 would be black and white etc. The important thing is that you don't see this in the toolset, you have to play with the setting, then start the game and see how it looks.

I posted that thread. I was trying to figure out how to create new shadow area, like those in MotB. Desaturation was the thing.

"desaturate color" is your answer.

I'll try to remember to put one up when I get home.

Yes, you could probably produce a pretty good dream-like effect by mixing partial desaturation with visual effects like "fx_steamroom".

And make sure to post a disclaimer: "Nothing is wrong with your monitor, this screen shot is a black and white image taken with colors desaturated!" Otherwise you're definitely going to get at least one person asking what's wrong with your shot.
