I don't think Ali will show up in DAA if Loghain does the DR, but don't know, as I haven't tried importing that particular outcome. (Another reason to have Loghain do the US.) In the epilogue Alistair will grudgingly agree that Loghain going out in a blaze of glory is "good," but you will no longer be best buds. Alistair will say he's grateful for what you've done for him, but there's a certain edge in his voice when he tells you to go meet your adoring public, that hints he's still put out.
Alistair and Loghain both show up in Awakening, but at different times.

As long as you don't become Chancellor, I see no reason why he wouldn't hypothetically forgive you. He seems to bare the Warden no ill will in their meeting at Awakening. Loghain can also offer insight into Maric, which Alistair might appreciate learning about from the Warden (although this isn't something you can actually do in the game since it's a brief meeting). Considering that Alistair is likely helping people in the city of Denerim when the darkspawn attack while your army is two days away, it'll even end up (hypothetically) saving more lives than if he was with you in Redcliffe.

If you're on PC, you can use a respec mod to change his template to your liking. If not, well he's not terrible - he just has a lot of willpower rather than str/dex but that allows him to use his talents often.
In Awakening, Alistair will appear at the beginning. Loghain will be in Vigil's Keep (in the hall) after you have completed two main quests. He'll have a gift for you.

Yes, they both will appear in Awakening. And yes, as long as you don't become Chancellor, they will rule brilliantly.
Wait...if you're Chancellor, how do they rule? I've never gne that path.

Yes, Alistair will forgive you eventually. By awakening, he seems to have gotten over being pissed off. Besides, he never really struck me as someone with the capacity for long grudges. He just isn't gonna like you from Landsmeet to the end of origins.
As king, though, he does fine with Anora hardened and all. They are a very popular ruling team. And you should let Loggy live at least once, to chat with him and get a bit of insight into his character.

It's entirely subjective, of course, but I just wasn't feeling the love.

Did Bhelen's father REALLY ask Harrowmont to make sure Bhelen isn't king?
yes. You find this out in a letter you find at harrowmont's place (which is arguable) or you get a letter from Endrin addressed to you if you are a DN and meet Gorim.
Of course, Endrin's mental stability has come into question at that point.

Alistair wants nothing to do with the Warden then, and he gets no support politically from him, so Anora gets most of the say when it comes to ruling the nation, although the Chancellor does get some political connections (not as much if Alistair wasn't hardened and Warden was Chancellor, for instance, in which case Warden is the de facto ruler of Ferelden).

Who should I let rule?
Orzammar is stagnant and stuck in tradition - just go to Dust Town to see how bad it is. Ask the guard near the Deep Roads and he'll say that Bhelen wants to reclaim the lost thaigs. Listen to the criers and eventually you'll discover that both acknowledge that Bhelen will help the casteless. Ask the salesman near the entrance to Dust Town and he'll reveal that he supports Bhelen because he'll improve trade relations to Orzammar. That should give you some indication about who is looking to make Orzammar a better place as King.

Bhelen all the way. Unless, of course, you hate the dwarves and want them to fail epicly. In that case, pick Harrowmont.
Bhelen actually wants to turn the tide on dwarven misfortune, Harrowmont wants to keep things stagnant.

I disagree with those that says Alistair forgives you by the time you meet in Awakening. I didn't get that feeling at all. I felt like I could still hear that same edge in his voice that he had during the coronation. Maybe no outright hostility, but definitely a coolness or distance, especially when he says something about you surviving, and you can say "don't look so disappointed." He responds with a dry, sarcastic "I'll get over it, I'm sure." Nothing about it reminds me of the BFF status they shared before my character spared Loghain.
It's entirely subjective, of course, but I just wasn't feeling the love.
Isn't his greeting at the Keep exactly the same though? (Except for a wife or mistress) Have him on Friendly, kill Loghain...his greeting will be just the same as the one he gives you with Loghain alive and well. Only the romance makes a difference, I think.
