Alistair was my friend and I wanted him by my side when I faced the Archdemon. I didn't want to see him become a wandering drunk and I sure as hell was not going to marry him off to that shrew Anora.

I know about the "great content" and I don't care. I don't care to hear his excuses. I don't care to hear his sad stories about how the Orlesians starved his dog and raped his mom. I don't care that he feels "weally, weally bad" about all the murders and slavery and the other massive f***-ups he was responsible for in the name of "protecting" Ferelden. The man sickens me.

Loghain always dies in my playthroughs. I'm not interested in giving him a chance at redemption. He pays for his crimes.

Oh, how very Paragon of you. You realize that death isn't the only solution, right? And you're missing out on some great content.

I spared him. Once. Never again.

Weird, you know, with me it's the other way around. Given how much I detest how the game handled NOT sparing him. Killing a man in front of his daughter? Never again.

Yeah, you see, I do not kill people for my friends/lovers. He offers no excuses. And obviously you don't know the content, as "Orlesians starving his dog and raping his Mom" is never brought up. Nor does he say he feels "really bad". Such b/w views are what sickens me. Even more so than the killing him to make Alistair happy excuse. There are perfectly valid reasons to execute Loghain. You mentioned none. There are also perfectly valid reasons to spare him.

Besides, Anora and Alistair are the best outcome for Ferelden and a Senior Warden supports the decision to spare him.

^Maybe not for you. For others though....

Let's just say some people can't, won't or have no desire to feel sympathy for their parents deaths. Hell people have killed their parents without batting an eyelid.

Though really there should've been a public hanging option. I wanted that man disgraced completely. He didn't deserve an honorale duel. He deserved a public execution with all his crimes known throughout the lands.

Personally, I have a hard time not sparing Loghain. I'm sorry, but that hissy fit Allistair throws when you so much as suggest it soured me on his character forever. It was the single largest dethroning moment of suck I have ever seen in any game ever. He's lucky if I see fit to marry him off to Anora. in fact, I have yet to get the Allistair sacrifice ending, since I've never had Allistair during the Archdemon fight yet.

Loghain has some excellent dialogue when it comes down to the final blow, and you refuse to let him do it, without the DR in place.

Yes yes god for me. ;)

That said there are good reasons both for sparing him and for executing him.

The man committed treason. Treason = death. That's the most simple and justifible reason I've ever seen for executing him.

It is a major let down. The whole "Kill him already!"  *Whine* *Whine*. But no, I do not let him storm out to drink himself to death like a coward. He marries Anora and mans up by the time my Wardens arrive at the Vigil. :D Besides, he and Anora seem to get along just fine, even by the end of Origins, Anora is fond of him already. Heh. :innocent:

I didn't get the implication that Anora was fond of him. More like she tolerated him.

We're NOT going down this road again. Suffice to say, according to you that is how it is. Tis not an indisputable fact. Besides, even Henry VIII had "traitors" executed after giving them a trial.

The landsmeet was Loghain's trial.

And according to the precious word of god Loghain was a traitor. :P

I do agree with you on the whole duel then killing him in front of his kid. That is not how it should've went down. He should've been stripped of his title, rank, and land then hung. Then Anora should've followed if she refused to swear fealty.

Alas Alistair was too soft.

"His heart is in the right place. In that, he reminds me of Cailan, which is no failing." The way she says that, it's almost too sugary.

The Landsmeet was about who would lead Ferelden, not a trial. And we're also not going down the WOG debate road again.

That didn't sound fond to me. Just an observation. A pleasant and flattering observation but not fondness.

It was both. It was to prove Loghain's crimes and then choose a leader for Fereldan.

And I won remember? :D

Aha! The affection in her voice is for Cailan not Alistair.

VO note: shrug, a bit of affection in her voice when she speaks of Cailan

And that's why he never becomes solo king in my games. He either marries Anora or stays a Warden or falls in love with a cup.

VO notes mean nothing to me, I prefer my own ears. Besides, the epilogue slides show that they are a great team.

My apologies … but know that my own father died before my eyes, Persephone. I know what that's like.

But still, I feel very little sympathy for Anora. Had I not heard her say that she loved Cailan and that her father was in the wrong, I could perhaps feel more for her loss and understand her desire to save Loghain. But she put her paranoid father above the survival of Ferelden when she betrayed me at the Landsmeet. I feel nothing as she runs over to her father's corpse — only cold satisfaction.

No second chances. I'm that kind of man.

Yes because people can't work together without being fond of one another.

But to each their own interpretation. I shall not begrudge you that.

She "betrayed" you because you either told her that you weren't going to support her and/or going to kill her father. No queen in her right mind will support those planning to dethrone her. And no daughter in her right mind will help you kill her father. Her father's life is the line she won't cross. And she did not know why Ferelden's survival depends on a Warden. Not even the Warden knows why until Riordan spills it.

As for "no second chances", I hope your life never depends on someone with such a philosophy.

Yeah I can't do the drunk ending. Me and Alistair are too close either as BFFs or lovers for me to do that to him.

Of course that doesn't stop my PC from having his heart ripped out his chest by sacrificing themselves.

Well, he would not ask her for advice, learn from her and refer to her (more sound) judgment often if they hated each other.
