Yeah but if they do end up using standard Tolkien-derived fare I am fine with that, seeing as Tolkien has long since been to his grave and now influences fantasy the world over because he basically CREATED most of it. I have no problem, lol. He is like the godfather of all fantasy.

If you look at the elves of DA2 and see Tolkien elves just because they're not as short as they were in Origins, then perhaps you need to check your glasses.

Damn right, it doesn't. And my five foot zero self will kick the arse of anyone who says otherwise. That being said, I truly enjoyed feeling tall. It was like I could take things down from tall shelves anytime I wanted without standing on a chair. *sighs* So awesome....

Slender can have many connotations. Slender doesn't always mean having a model-esque physique or just being tiny. You can be slender and athletic, which aren't the elves often described as? Plus, you're only looking at Merril. Fenris looks to be more slender than male!Hawke, yet he appears to have have some athletic build. Strength isn't only in build. Elves were once more intelligent and advanced than humans. I think in some other fantasy lores, faster, adept in the forests, and having keener eyesights? I like to think these attribute as strengths to their race.

I am starting to wonder...why are we getting so concerned about complete realism in a video game? I mean I know games nowadays are so gritty and real but is the concept of "suspension of disbelief" no longer allowed these days? I don't really care who has more muscle than who else, or who is taller than who based on race or whatever.



Let's just enjoy the game for what it is: a game and not real life.

Uh... no one's saying that female models are shorter than they were in DAO?  Just that Fenris is about the same height as mHawke.  Or did I miss some outrageous outrage?  You know, it's so hard to keep up!

Mr.Gaider, with all due respect, maybe stopping for couple minutes to think before you engage in the Snark™ could be in order.

The original comment i was responding to was about how tall and slender is more like "Tolkien elves". My comment was to point out that making things more "like Tolkien" is opposite to what devs stated as their intention, which was supposedly to make things look less Tolkien-like.

If you go from "more/less like Tolkien" to "they aren't exactly like Tolkien, what are you, blind" then i can only presume it's because strawmen are so much easier to burn down?

I admit, my mental image of eleves is that they're short (never watched or read lotr, so that may be part of it), so when I think of elves I think of..santas elves. Or the fairy tales eleves that always seemed to be small and fairy/imp like.

It's funny you say this with a dwarf avatar.    Anyway, in Origins you were only taller than Zevran, Oghren and a few assorted NPCs??  I don't get it.

Have to admit one of the things I liked about Alistair-elf was the fact that he was taller, so he had to kind of scoop her up a little to kiss her.
