I think Varric manages to be all of the above.

Hm...

Though at least this news confirms Fenris as a lead romance.

We can't have the male lead be shorter than the female lead now can we? <_<

Fine with me. I'm not attracted to short men anyway.

Dito. Even though I couldn't say I am attracted to tall men either ...

Uh, since you did have the option to romance Zevran with an HF in Origins, that kind of shoots that down, doesn't it?

...Zevran was the male lead? Since when?

Zev's a side character. Always was.

And as much as I like Leliana so was she.

You were awfully quick to jump on that.

Hmmm... I was under the impression that Merill was tiny. If anything I thought elves had gotten smaller. Doesn't really matter either way, just slightly surprised.

Does Varric count as a male lead? Or is he discounted from yet another thing because of his height? Heh.

We really don't know who the male and female leads are, honestly.

Probably. Though it would depend...we don't have the game in our hands yet sadly. :crying:

Though to be honest I was looking at it more in a romance light.

Though maybe due to Hawke's voice he/she'll be the lead.

...Then again Shepard still had Ashley/Kaidan/Jacob/Miranda so...

I think that's a bit harsh, for me, Alistair's a side character. Always was.

I'd say Isabela is the female lead simply because she's the promo girl.
But than again Bioware described Jacob as the male lead of ME2 and he had no media coverage at all...

Not really. The game moved on without a hitch ignoring both of them. Both Alistair and Morrigan were deeply engrained in the plot.

That's was probably because Jacob's as interesting as watching paint dry.

Sorry sorry! It was a heavy risk...[smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/whistling.png[/smilie]

Probably the latter. :D Oh, I love the smell of my own crushed hopes and other peoples' blatant heightism in the morning.

The Warden didn't really need anyone to stop the Blight. From the companions anyway. Only exception maybe if he wanted to survive he needed Morrigan (or another Warden to sacrifice). Well and a female Warden would also need either Alistair or Loghain.

??? Why would his height stop him from being the main lead? True typically BW leads are humans but DA2 seems to be breaking that trend. (Hell I hope Varric is the lead. He's pretty interesting and would make a good bro).

She's saying that because typically the male lead is a Love Interest, which has been thoroughly discounted in this thread, if my reading comprehension isn't as rusty as it might be.

How has that been discounted?

Varric hasn't been confirmed one way or another and all the recent BW male leads I remember *I haven't played NWN or BG games* (wth the exception of JE it's hard to tell if Zu or Sky is the male lead in that game) had the male leads romanceble.

Though if Fenris has been given a growth spurt for romance purposes its facepalm worthy.

There is no "lead" because the PC is always a variable. If the PC is female in DA2, she's taller than Varric and shorter than Fenris. So...?

The bottom line for me is that I'm glad to hear the devs were trying not to make elves look children. As it was, in Origins it was hard to make an elf character that didn't look like she just skipped out on junior high school.

If the PC is female in DA2 she may be shorter than the male lead (depending on if Varric is male lead) and an exception doesn't disprove a general rule. *edited to make my meaning clearer. In general females are shorter than the male lead. Not every single time.

The PC is a variable in ME. That doesn't stop Ashley/Kaidan and Miranda/Jacob from being Female/Male lead respectively in the games.

PC is a vairable in KOTOR. That didn't stop the Carth/Bastila F/M leads.

And I never saw that issue. Elves didn't look like children unless you desgned them to look like children. Facial structure is a better indicator of age to me than height. Merril looked like a kid because she had a baby face.

Oh, I agree there. And of course I hope to see some more screens of DA2 elves, but the Merrill screen at least facially gives the impression that she's a wee little kid. If she's taller than she looks in the dev diary that would be good, but her more rounded looking facial structure and how they seem to have given the elves big eyes goes back to a more child like look. Maybe thats just Merrill though, as Fenris' face doesn't seem as odd looking.

Well I also hope they change her a bit. Not like in DA:O, but her face looks more like a mask than anything, even the color...

@Brock, Merrill's waifishness is why I'm relieved to hear that efforts were being made.

@Ryzaki, I don't consider lead to equal LI. Varric is obviously a hugely important character. He was the first companion reveal. Isabela is obviously an important female, the iconic female for the game. But whatever, this seems pedantic at this point.

I just don't see height as indicative of age. If you have a baby face you're still going to look young no matter how tall, in MY opinion. I was the same height when I was 13 as I am now, but still I didn't look "mature" then (I still don't, lol). I guess I just don't see height as a deciding variable when judging someone's age, especially in a fantasy setting.

You win some and you lose some. For me this change was great =)

I've had my little things that I liked in DA:O removed, like being able to use all kinds of armor on my gang. Dressing them in ways that I wanted. Oh well....

This.

@Addai: I never said lead = LI automatically just that in BW games it was a running theme. (The only exception I saw in recent BW games was JE and that's only because I'm pretty sure Zu is the male lead. Though I believe Ming was shorter than DS as well.)
