Well I also hope they change her a bit. Not like in DA:O, but her face looks more like a mask than anything, even the color...
I'm hoping/guessing a lot is up to the peculiarity of that part of the dev diary, but then again, while the faces seem to be looking better in DA2, more often than not I find them looking off in some Uncanny Valley-esque way. I just can't put my finger on it- maybe its the skin textures looking too smooth, giving everyone a Botoxed look? Won't know until we can see the game in its final state graphics wise.

@Brock, Merrill's waifishness is why I'm relieved to hear that efforts were being made.
True, I still laugh looking at that screen of Merrill though with how the mage staff on her back looks larger than she is.

After that...
KotOR - Carth, Bastila
JE - Dawn Star, Sagacious Zu (not a LI)
ME - Kaidan, Ashley
DAO - Alistair, Morrigan
ME2 - Miranda, Jacob
So, consistently, the male and female leads are LIs. I would not, however, say that this is always true of BioWare games, and infallible. It's a moot point anyway, as we don't really know who the male and female leads are. DAII might not even have an obvious lead.

Uh, since you did have the option to romance Zevran with an HF in Origins, that kind of shoots that down, doesn't it?Ryzaki wrote...
We can't have the male lead be shorter than the female lead now can we? <_<
Zevran wasn't the male lead. Alistiar was.

You know, I made that comment too, but...
Partially, I think it has to do with the mage staff being stuck to the back high-up, with the bottom above the knees (I assume because of clipping issues).

It's a combination of height, stature and the pixie faces that were in the presets. I ended up using mostly one preset and making the chin longer and wider, eyes more widely set apart etc. in an attempt to get elf chicks looking normal, and mostly it didn't work. IMO. They all looked 12. I'm not the only one who thought this, I recall others saying the same thing about character creation with an elf. Dwarves didn't have the same problem, because their features were stockier.yukidama wrote...
I just don't see height as indicative of age. If you have a baby face you're still going to look young no matter how tall, in MY opinion. I was the same height when I was 13 as I am now, but still I didn't look "mature" then (I still don't, lol). I guess I just don't see height as a deciding variable when judging someone's age, especially in a fantasy setting.

You guys have no idea how heavily my hope for Varric being an LI rested on his being a male lead (which I still consider a very strong possibility), haha. Now it doesn't seem very likely, considering how "difficult" making animations for scenes where the character is shorter than you is.
Only when it's for romance, otherwise it's okay

Generally the leads are LIs. There's only been one exception since KotOR, in JE--Sagacious Zu. Of course, he dies half way through the plot anyway, but there is no other potential lead to fill his place.

For what I saw until now, I could say that Bethany and Carver are more lead than any of the other characters. Isabela is the 'default' LI for Garrett, and we don't even need to recruit or talk to her at all. :<

It's easier to decide that when we've played the game.
Or when the Devs tell us. :innocent:
Though this has rekindled my hope for Fenris as a s/s option. Since he and Dude Hawke are close in height.
Please don't shatter my dreams Darth Gaider.

There's followup from Mr.Gaider how Fenris is just slightly shorter from male Hawke if i'm not mistaken. That would make male elves most likely bit taller than human females.HolyJellyfish wrote...
The main question is thus - Are human women shorter than elven dudes, or are they just about the same height?

Considering Isabela (evidently) has something to do with the plot at some point, even if you don't recruit her, she appears to be the female lead. That, paired with her being the main romance shown in the videos, which is usually the case. And Varric's role seems vital enough to warrant the "male lead" title, imo.David Gaider wrote...

We don't think any of them are since we haven't played the game, that's why you should tell us.

Varric/Cass also seem to have a bigger role in DA3 (as devs stated) so they can't be in any direct relationship with Hawke, to avoid a cameo and/or importing a certain status.

Not Varric as he's a pint-sized male, which is apparently an abhorrence in the eyes of the Maker.
You realize this means Fenris is taller than Aveline? I hope most of my interactions with Meredith happen while she's standing on steps or platforms.

It's not necessarily indicative of age, but it does change peoples' behavior toward you. Like a lot of Asian women, I'm tiny IRL. I look my age--I get carded about as often as the rest of my friends. But I get called pint-sized, my taller friends do the hair ruffly thing, I get the "zomg so short and cute" reaction, etc. Notably, no one does that to my flatmate who's visibly younger than me, but a lot taller and less scrawny.

I'm throwing my two cents towards Varric as the Male Lead. You simply cannot continue the story without him, since the whole game's narrative is based on what HE saw.
As for Female Lead? I'm beat. I'd say Isabela based on the trailer, but I have no idea.

I don't want to cause a storm here, but Cass has a potential suspects list, right? She might have interrogated everyone before Varric, it's just his story we follow. So anyone of the chars could have been the storyteller, for example Aveline who knows Hawke since he fled Lothering.

I thought it was confirmed that Varric was ***THE*** Narrator o-o
Edit:
It's possible that Morrigan will have a big role in future games, and we could romance her ~
