The only change in elves that would alarm me is if they shrunk to the size of a dwarf or grew giant rabbit ears.  Minor aesthetic adjustments don't bother me though.

That wasn't aimed at their having a bigger role in DA3, but the fact that they can't be in any direct relationship with Hawke. Frankly, your logic is kind of making me legitimately lol right now. First off, who's to say that DA3's time span won't be much shorter than DA2's? Hawke doesn't have to follow Varric around like a lost puppy. S/he leads his or her own life as the Champion of Kirkwall, I'm sure. Hell, they might even die by the end of the game. Not only that, but "bigger role" doesn't necessarily mean "more screen time." It could very well mean that they might act as a catalyst for a very important plot point within the game or it's a direct following of Varric's interrogation with Cassandra. The fact that he might very well be in DA3 doesn't discount his potential now. Soz.

Pardon my ignorance, but what are you guys talking about, exactly? Could you please point me towards the dev posts you are referencing?

This is one of the reasons I've asked for them to just treat height as an abstract and make male and female Hawke the same height.

ROFL! Its a conspiracy now? It's clear now.. I should have been on these forums instead of wasting my time in classes today..  I'm not seeing how making Elves a few inches taller constitutes as a "conspiracy".

The character artist identify more with men of a non-existent race that no one can play than female humans that can actually be PCs.

Naturally, they've ensured that the elves aren't as tall or taller than Dude Hawke (because that would just be 'wrong') while the only qunari we see will be guys.

Do I want elves to be pixies? I don't care. If elves were suddenly taller than both male and female humans, I'd probably shrug. Yes, it would be a retcon, but there's noting inherently wrong with that.

Lol, well they are making better use of props now. They can just give dwarves stilts so they're not all ~short and gross~ now. Then again, they're still "fat" (oh god my sides ache from laughing so hard) so maybe between DA2 and DA3 they'll all have gone on diets too. After all, there's nothing in their name that implies they have to be stocky.

I'm confused.  You're obviously upset about this to some degree, but if you don't care about the retcon and it's not due to implied sexism then why?  So you only care that most women be taller than some men?  Why is this important?

I take it you've confused me with someone else. I both find the change sexist AND I have personal reasons for disliking it.

I don't really care if elves are taller or shorter than humans - or if males are shorter/taller than females, for that matter. Why would it be so important anyway ? What I care about is consistency. It's ridiculous enough to have a EM char suddenly grow a head taller for a kissing cutscene. I hope they leave elves as they are for DA2.

I don't think this is the case. Let's assume that elves are similar to humans in that generally speaking, males are taller than females.



Now, male elves are taller than female humans. That probably puts them at height comparable to a male human. And probably puts female elves at a height comparable to a female human. I'm failing to see the gender-dependency here, apart from a perfectly normal tendency for males to be taller than females.

I'm under impression though the elves were made taller "across the board" so to speak, i.e. both males and females, and the male elves winding up taller than human females (if that's the case) is just side-effect of that change rather than primary reason.

But it isn't a issue of gender.. In reality women in general are shorter than men.. Its not sexist, its the truth.
I know this is fantasy or whatever but how is it a big deal if Male Elves are taller than female humans?

Though as I remember,  Gaider only said it was Fenris not all Male Elves.  Didn't Gaider say that he belives Elves are still shorter than humans? I think you guys are just jumping to unreasonable conclusions based one sentence a developer happened to write..
