That similar height to humans is all well in good except for the fact that Fenris is shorter than dude hawke.

Wow. I thought this thread was a joke when I first read through it. But, just. Wow.

Those moles are looking up and thinking that R136a1 looks small compared to this mountain.

I don't really care if elves are taller or shorter than humans - or if males are shorter/taller than females, for that matter. Why would it be so important anyway ? What I care about is consistency. It's ridiculous enough to have a EM char suddenly grow a head taller for a kissing cutscene. I hope they leave elves as they are for DA2.

The bolded, italicised part. That right there. I played a male dwarf, and when kissing Morrigan, my dwarf had suddenly expanded to huge, in order to be taller and able to kiss Morrigan. I'm hoping the mechanics for shorter people kissing taller people has been fixed, or found some sort of work-around, like both characters sitting and leaning towards each other.

And I still have hope that Varric is an LI.

I know right? Its amazing that people can make a big deal over such insignificant things.
But whatever. I get my amusement where I can find it, and this thread is definitely a viable source of amusement.

Considering Leliana would simply kneel down for kiss with a dwarf in DAO that seems more like not enough time to properly arrange Morrigan's (and similar) animations, than any real limitation.

I found the kneeling kiss to be quiet cute actually. I wish it had been in more places.

I don't think this is the case. Let's assume that elves are similar to humans in that generally speaking, males are taller than females.

Now, male elves are taller than female humans. That probably puts them at height comparable to a male human. And probably puts female elves at a height comparable to a female human. I'm failing to see the gender-dependency here, apart from a perfectly normal tendency for males to be taller than females.

Eclipse 9990 wrote...
But it isn't a issue of gender.. In reality women in general are shorter than men.. Its not sexist its the truth, and I know this is fantasy or whatever but how is it a big deal if Male Elves though as I remember,  Gaider only said it was Fenris not all Male Elves,  didn't Gaider say that he belives Elves are still shorter than humans? I think you guys are just jumping to unreasonable conclusions based one sentence a developer happened to write..

This and this, I agree with.

(I dunno if Fenris would really be a special case though... It'd be cool if he was, but I doubt they went and made his model taller when Gaider has already said that it's easier to animate models when they're all the same height. If Fenris is a little taller than FemHawke, then so are all other male elves in DA2, I'm assuming. )

I don't think this is the case.

Good to know I'm so horribly out of touch with my thoughts that random people on the internet can predict my reactions better than I do.

Yes, if male and female elves were suddenly taller than male and female humans, it wouldn't bother me. Other people might be bothered, but not me.

It's a discussion forums for video games. If you're under belief that anything ever discussed here is of any more significance than this particular thread, that in itself is probably more amusing than any individual thread you choose to pick on.

How do you know this?  Merrill is obviously smaller, but it sounds like all elves got taller and she's a victim/ benefactor of unique companion models.

If you're saying you wanted a tall female elf, well I can't disagree with that.  I'd rather not have the Dalish elf companion be something you can put in your pocket.

I wasn't aware that male elves actually existed and were, on average, taller than human females. Here I thought they were a fantasy race that were portrayed as being anything from two heads taller than humans to being the size of a glass of water.

I am not complaining about human males being taller than human females so telling me it's 'the truth' seems a bit odd.

I understand where you are coming from, and I also understand why you'd be upset.

However, there is always the reminder that your party members and your PC have models unique to other characters, so for all we know while male elves maybe slightly taller than human females (or perhaps even the same size), Fem!Hawke could very well be just as tall if not taller. Aveline may tower over everyone. Random Male Mage might be taller than Male Hawke.  There is always that hope.

Oh no dont get me wrong.. They're have been PLENTY of dumber threads made. I have no delusions about that. I'm just shocked, and amused that a thread about elves growing a few inches manages to get this much reaction..

We're on the 20th page for f***s sake..

It has less to do with character size variation, and more to do with the fact that variation in height is between elf MEN and human WOMEN. That the elf MEN can stand /over/ human females as opposed to males.

The elves are still smaller than human MEN, but are comparable to human WOMEN.

I personally am not bothered by this information, but I can understand why it would tick a lot of people off. Their argument does have merit.

Or that thread on Isabela's outfit.

Ra forbid a woman wear what she wants (now I understand the desire not to recieve panty shots but they mostly were mostly calling her skanish and the like. Which while I doubt she'd care was unnecessary).

Rules of the internet.
1. If someone complains about something you don't care about, they're being foolish. Things you care about are what really matter.
2. If someone complains about something you don't care about, WHY ARE THEY MAKING A HUGE DEAL ABOUT EVERYTHING?

That I've written all of seven posts on a thread that's 20 pages long makes me a shrieking harpy who cares about nothing but this one issue. And this issue dominates my life.

Individual heights would be glorious, but I don't expect BioWare to spend that amount of time and effort on this issue.

I see you completely ignored my second sentence stating that this was all fantasy. But whatever.

I get that the elves that were shown in DA:O were shorter.. But as was mentioned, height varies.. Just because the elves you saw in DA:O were shorter doesnt mean it works that way for the entire race..

Also before you say "but we SAW the elves being shorter. We SAW it" How many character models do you expect the game designers to make? All the humans we saw in the game were the same height but that doesnt mean, all humans are the same stature..

Snarkiness aside, I don't think this is a personal attack like you assume it is. People disagree with something, however there's no need to take it personally.

I would feel just as much if not more guilty, but thankfully it was you to start the thread. As such, i can at least pretend clearly there's at least one person who cares more.

This was honestly something I never paid attention to in the game, but is it possible that Zev was just short for an elf and that's why the female Warden was taller than him. Or were they taller than all male elves.

Haven't read other posts, probably won't either since I don't have the time, but I'll say this since apparently by the page count its a big issue...

elf men and human women always looked the same height to me in DAO
