I don't see why you're mad. It's a BS post trying to make the poster look good by making up arguements that no one was making.

I'm not mad, just frustrated as ****.

It has the added bonus of telling all short men they should stop being deviants and start dating women shorter than them.

Didn't you know?

Short dude = freak
Tall woman = freak
Someone who wants to play a tallish woman = freak

Am I right in thinking you would also be offended if elven men were slightly taller than human men, such that elven women would be slightly shorter than human men?

Ah. I'm with you there.

I don't personally see the need to change elves heights. But /shrug I guess the devs found it important.

And what unintended message would that be?

Conversely, I want a Barda. I'm 6'2" in real life, so clearly, BioWare, you are my only hope. :crying:

However, there is always the reminder that your party members and your PC have models unique to other characters, so for all we know while male elves maybe slightly taller than human females (or perhaps even the same size), Fem!Hawke could very well be just as tall if not taller. Aveline may tower over everyone. Random Male Mage might be taller than Male Hawke.  There is always that hope.

Individual heights would be glorious, but I don't expect BioWare to spend that amount of time and effort on this issue.

Not entirely out of sight or out of mind. From the one screen shot we have of Merrill, she does appear to be ridiculously tiny / short. Now unless all female elves come to about shoulder height whereas all male elves are about the same size as human females if not taller...

... Companion height alterations are a possibility, since they have very specific models created for them.

I would also like to point out that everyone thought it was important enough to drive this topicto at least 23 pages (at least when I started typing this)

I get what you have against this change.  I don't think it's a big deal, but I'm normally in the minority on those things so... whatever.

I will say, though, that if you're biggest concern about the game is a concern as minor as this, then that's a good thing.  It's nothing to argue over or get frustrated at.  How about we let this one die and move on.

Jeez I can't keep it straight, I'm either a complete Bioware fangirl or I hate them and complain about everything and how it sucks and how they are evil.  Clearly I should be an actor I've got some serious range!

They were equally possible in DAO. The amount of work associated with making such characters appears simply prohibitive, especially if the benefit of customization is limited to just single character and the work has to be repeated for every individual.

Even thosewho claim it's not important at all ;)

Frankly it's just my preference that my females be taller than someone (mostly their male LIs).

It's not my biggest concern. I'm just bored and this is the funniest thing to do at the moment.

Christ on a motherf***ing ******.

Did I miss the memo where BioWare is somehow responsible for the moral zeitgeist or something? Is there a reason why we accuse our favorite dev of racism, sexism, and trying to ruin our lives just because they change minor visual things about an IP that belongs to them? Are we going to hold them personally responsible for the ghastly crime of even having gender and sexual norms in their games?

Because of COURSE having elves just slightly shorter than humans, and therefore male elves taller than female humans, tells shorter guys they have no worth in life. And CLEARLY Morrigan and Leliana spent any romance with a dwarven dude mocking his height. And of COURSE only being about to play as human is inherently racist. How DARE we insinuate that these are artistic changes on the part of developers trying to make their game better? And how DARE they employ commonly used fantasy tropes in their...fantasy game?

Seriously. What. The. Hell.

Just gonna quote this because this post is awesome. The fact that people actually take the issue of elven men being taller than human women and blowing it out of proportion is just ridiculous.

What I have been saying the entire damn thread is the unintended message. Or was the pointing at my own previous post in reference not an indicator of what I meant?

Meaning no, you have no clue about what you were talking about, right?

I have the same problem.

"Maria why do you suck up to BioWare and mindlessly like everything they do?"

"Maria why do you hate BioWare and think that they're an unholy abomination that Hitler spawned with Satan?"

Complaint = blowing everything out of proportion.
Praise = obvious sycophant.

It's not societally acceptable to be in a short man-tall woman relationship. Even if they didn't change it for this reason (or if they did it subconsciously, though I dispute whether we can assume this to be true), one could argue the change nonetheless reinforces this stereotype considering that it's a change from the old order which broke the stereotype.

Well, if you can't look back a page and I have to repeat myself:
"I wasn't referring to that. I am not saying I want the male humans to be shorter than my female Hawke. I am not arguing that this is not the case amongst individuals of the same species in the game or many IRL.

I am arguing about the male elves, a different species being the same height as HUMAN females. Unconventional meaning that in the game it was okay when you, the player, were the elf or the dwarf. The LI still liked the Warden for who they were and Leliana and Morrigan weren't all "Ew, I won't even think about guys shorter than me." But since we can only now be human, apparently female human/shorter male is groce or something.

Not saying that anyone in BioWare actually believes this (well, some posts about dwarves by Gaider a while back did imply this but whatever) but that it's definitely the impression a change like this puts forth.

Now, of course if by some miracle Varric happens to be an LI I will buy a hat and eat it."

Ah I see, thank you for clearing that up.

I do think some people are looking a little to hard into a design decision for a game. Since this is not a dating simulator, I think people should just let go and accept what can't be changed for now.
