I mean Elves lost they're immortality from being around humans(I don't even know how this is possible).

Slightly off topic nitpick but that's what the myths/legends/common belief in the lore is.  That doesn't make it true.   It's entirely possible that something else cause them to lose their immortality or that elves never were immortal/long lived in the first place.

Elves were never immortal.

That's just stupid elven propaganda.

A lot of things have altered about the elves, not just their height. Eyes, nose ridges, etc. I'm not too concerned with these alterations, and I don't consider them major retcons. Just redesigns in order to create a cleaner, more consistent lore.

I never liked the D&D pointy-eared sissies, which are just slight taller than halflings. Let dalish be tall and majestic like Tolkien's or Warhammer's elves are.

Don't have the time to read all the posts here but I approve :-)

It looked ridiculous when my female Cousland decided to romance Zev....

IMO- if something never stated in a lore it cant be retconed. There is no word in codex or in game dialogues that stated that elves are shorter than humans.

Right.... Because we can't, you know, see them....

Perhaps they want femhawke to look up at male romances? Dwarfs being the exception.

I can't imagine they'd model one race around a FemHawke romance. They could simply make Fenris taller.

While they're at it, make Aveline taller too.

I don't think Bioware would make any large aesthetic changes just for FemHawke romances.

For what we know, tallness could be a rarity for the elves. Or perhaps elves now have a larger variety of heights.

Or perhaps, just perhaps, its possible for the 'model' to adjust character height? THAT could be interesting.

That goes back to what shep said on the last page...now if we find out that, this is the case...then I'm okay with it...although I don't mind either way. He'll just favor Legolas in height( atleast far as I can tell of him compared to Aragorn in the movies...)

Women are in average shorter than men. And I for one would appreciate if elves had the same size as humans.

It's not only the romance part (that everyone sees). Elves in DA:O resembled humans too much, so that's why they must have given them a different height.

We don't know if they are that tall yet, but i don't understand why it is a problem. It's not like the dwarves are taller than humans now, elves were usually tall in other stories. Looking back, only the dwarf fans are not happy with this idea...

I am open to any change at long as it's good. For example the qunari don't follow the original idea, but they look awesome!

Every other BioWare game with elves has made them short and small, so I'm glad to see them taller for once.

Let's take away their pointy ears next. We may as well just call them humans at this rate.

...oh no. Elves are tall now. Clearly BioWare is out to destroy their own franchise, drown puppies, and make all our lives suck.

Feh. I'm a fan of Tolkien-esque elves. Bring on the tall, pointy-eared folk.

So how much taller are they, exactly?

All David said was he thinks they are 'a bit' taller, so I don't think that should be read into too hard. Don't torture yourselves over it.

I don't think it has much to do with 'heightism'. People act like it's just the end of the world for people to have preferences in their mates. And yes, I'm talking about reality, not our pixellated friends, here. Some people prefer bigger builds, smaller builds, tiny chests, big chests, butts, chests (man chests :P), certain hair or skin colors. Height is just one more thing that some people have. That it's being called some form of descrimination baffles me.

Every person is not going to find every other person in the world attractive. There are a myriad of reasons why. Height may or may not be one of them. It is not descrimination. Descrimination is when you start thinking lesser of someone for some superficial reason. Not wanting to mate with them does not equate thinking lesser of them or their abilities/rights as a living person.

I completely agree.

If it's actually confirmed I would have no problem with it.

The idea though that the devs made the elves taller so that Fenris could be romanceable is silly, changing the appearance of a whole race just to appease fen girls is giving them too much credit really and some fans of Fenris did love the former elves shorter look.

Maybe just maybe making them taller was one of the many changes they wanted to make to the race to make the appearance change more distinct..

I think though the devs should permanently put a step stool in inventory for every female Hawke so that they can equip it before starting a conversation with any elven male to make them taller just for anyone who would be feeling nostalgic and missing the height difference...

I understand why some of you are frustrated since it was one of the features that made the elves endearing in DAO but maybe this change is not as dire as it seems..

It annoys me precisely because it's an irrelevant detail. They made them look different enough from humans, I don't really see what the point is in making them taller. If it doesn't matter, why not keep them the same height they were before?

I'm not saying it is BioWare's responsibility to do anything other than what they want, not throwing all my toys in my box and running off in a huff, not arguing or saying that BioWare is insulting me personally and that if they don't change it I will release anthrax into their vents or some ridiculous crap. Just saying that a feature I liked was removed and I have the right to complain because god knows I have defended and agreed with like, 99% of the changes we've seen, down to Isabela's Maker given right to wear a thong wherever the hell she wants. My impression or desire to play the game has not changed at all aside from disliking this singular feature. Just... it was nice to see a happy woman with her shorter (and still attractive) boyfriend in visual media, you know? I like non-conventional couples. I liked that characters were still found just as good-looking despite not being the "right" height or whatever.

Gaider said that he thinks that the elves now have the same height of humans, he's not sure.

Howewer, if this is confirmed, it's not a big thing for me. To me elves in DAO were (the most of them) some kind of small humans with pointy ears. The height isn't the thing that difference a race about another (imho). In DA2 the elves look like a different race from humans, due to the face's overhaul. I don't care about their height, either if they are smaller than humans or if they have the same height.

I understand howewer why someone (or a lot of people) could be dissapointed, due to they elves's previous height in DAO. I'm sorry for everyone. Maybe today the devs can said why they changed elven height, if they had.

+1

Down to the Isabela thong issue....although I didn't need much convincing to agree with that

And it's not a OMG they ruined my romance issue...none of my characters have romanced Zevran (a few had flings with him) and none of them are gonna romance Fenris (most likely anyways).

Damn smug elf

My hatred towards the elves will soar to astronomical levels, look at that forehead thinking it's all high and proud. NO! Elves are slaves! They need to be small and fragile, when I whip them with steel chains, I want them to receive broken bones. I want them to have a fear so horrifying imprinted on them that the generations of children to come after them are told stories of the Bearded Champion of the humans. He who was Malicious and uncaring towards those other than the ones in the scope of his desires. Elves shall rue the day they became taller I swear it!
