2 rogues, 2 warriors, 0 imba.
More reasonably, 1 warrior as the tank, 1 ranged support rogue, 1 melee heavy damage dealer that could be either a rogue or a warrior and a support/heal mage to buff them and pull out the get out of jail free cards as needed.
What is your ideal DA party class wise ?

2 mages, a warrior (PC) and a rogue... one mage is purely a cc/hex specialist, the other is pretty much AOE damage and combining spells like Cone of Cold and Petrify from both, Rogue is usually a cunning based dual wield and the warrior is either a 2 hander or sword and shield with tanking abilities.

Its secondary to RP'ing and what characters I want to take with me. I never think in terms of classes because you can make almost any mix work.

1 warrior 2 rogues 1 mage
i prefer balance if possible as for the rogues 1 using ranged and other dual weild.

I'm usually a warrior, two rogues (archer and dual-wield), and one mage party kind of person. Therefore if I had to relate characters to this situation I would probably throw in: Fenris, Sebastian, Isabela, and Hawke as the mage (I love playing as a mage.)

Warrior (tank) with either a dual wield-specced warrior, or a daul-wield specced rogue for melee dps. Then an archer (rogue) and a mage (for heals and other support such as crowd control and the like).

I find the combination of Rogue Archer, Mage, and Two Warriors one of the best. Especially in DA:O! I can do Physical Ranged, Magical Ranged, And Two Heavy Melee. It makes it a little easier to have ranged fighters take out the weak targets and the warriors to concentrate on the heavy targets. At least for me!

I bring whoever I like. I never worry about class.

A sword and shield tank, mage with at least a little healing, two hander warrior, and a rogue archer.
But in DA2 I'm not particularly interested in Aveline so I might run with two rogues instead. Probably two hander warrior (me), Isabela, Varric (or Seb whoevers cooler), and Bethany. All offence.

2 warriors (shield and 2hander), 1 rogue (ranged), 1 mage (dps/healer). I may change it but i generally like having 2 character that fight on melee and 2 that are ranged, it gives a very good flexibility when dealing with different kinds of enemies, and helps the melee characters to not get too much into the way or each other while looking for mobs to kill.

Two rogues, warrior, and mage.

One two handed warrior, one sword and shield warrior, one bow/crossbow rogue and one mage.
I'd like to swap in a dual weapon rogue though, depending on what characters I like the most.

3 dps characters and 1 cc character or 2 dps 2 cc or 1 dps 3 cc. Can be any composition of course and hybrids that can do both effectively are great as well.

Depends entirely on how DA2 is balanced in contrast to DAO.

Guy who either does or receives damage (me).
Guy who tries to do the same as above.
Guy who shoots stuff, opens locked chests and detects traps.
Guy who does the magic and heals the party when possible.

Why are you screwed? I did one of these in origins with 3 rangers and a mage. The animals didn't seem to get the damage bonus (they did get the icon) from things like flaming weapons but despite that I felt invulnerable. The only problems with it was it was a bit cumbersome resummoning all the animals between areas and movement sometimes had to be micromanaged in small corridors.Calla S wrote...

Depends on who my PC is at the time and what system.
For my Xbox 360/console version:
PC- Either dual wielding rogue, dual wielding warrior, weapon & shield warrior or arcane warrior mage, I tend to like my main characters being agile warriors, tanks, or spellswords. Role- DPS/Tank
-Archer Rogue- For dealing with traps, opening chests, and picking locks. Role- Scout/Ranged DPS
-Weapon & Shield Warrior- For taking those blows the others can't and if my current PC is not one of them. Role- Tank
-Two-Handed Warrior- For taking the blows when its too much on the tank and for extra damage. Role- Off Tank/Melee DPS
-Healing Mage- A must have in any rpg. Role- Healer/Support
For the PC:
-Weapon & Shield or Two-Hand Warrior- I like to be at the forefront in combat and so I don't have to deal with Alistair all the time. Role- Tank/Off-Tank/Melee DPS
-Crowd Control Mage- Since you need at least two mages in the PC version (the PC version is a bit...hard, esp w/o mages). Role- Debilitating/Controlling
-Healing Mage- Because you need one in any rpg. Role- Healing/Support
-Archer Rogue- To deal with all the rogue-stuff like picking locks and disarming traps. Role- Scout
My ideal party though (not counting DA:O's difficulty and necessity for certain classes/characters):
-Dual Wielding Warrior/Rogue
-Weapon & Shield Warrior
-Two Handed Warrior/Archer Rogue
-Healing Mage

1 Tank (Warrior, Weapon and Shield)
1 Damage Dealer (Either dual-wielding rogue or two-handed warrior)
1 Archer (for... arching)
1 Mage (preferably healer)
This isn't set in stone of course. Sometimes I'll take more than one mage when I feel like utterly destroying enemies (Muahaha...), and sometimes I just like to take around characters I like regardless of party balance.

Mage/Mage/Mage/Mage.
Can't comment on what DA2 would handle; but this party would be unkillable in DA:O on nightmare.

Rogue, Warrior, Cleric, and Mage.
But this game has no cleric, removing my favourite class and making me play two mages.
This game's system is broken.

Standard party: One magic-heavy mage, one willpower-heavy mage, one tank and one rogue (usually ranged and usually a ranger for delicious blood magic fodder).
