If you guys looked just about the thread you posted you'd see solutions. Download the patch first then try to run it. If that doesn't work try running as admin.

Uh oh. This usually means you have specs below requirements. Please post your full specs and we'll have a looksie.

Nine out of ten times I see anyone write such a thing, they are WRONG.  The typical person making such a statement always thinks that "newness" is what counts, and is wrong about that.

Here in this forum, the site's search gets this:

" Your search for « protection » returned 11 result/s."

On Google, at www.google.com/search

They say THIS:  " About 196 results  (0.32 seconds) "

Yes, it certainly may mean just that.  However, never forget that when ME-1 (PC) was brand new, none of the then- current Geforce video drivers were any good at all in the game.  If you had a slightly older Geforce video card, you could roll back to some older drivers, while owners of then-new Geforces had to wait, literally months, before nVIDIA got around to fixing whatever they had done wrong.  These days, if a proper Geforce video card throws a GP, it's still the older drivers in most cases, and if it's a new driver, probably more nVIDIA problems, still needing some kind of rollback.

What GPU? Not an Intel graphics chip is it?

I believe it's something among the lines of...
ASUS K50I RBBGR05 - P T4400 2.2 GHz - RAM 3 GB - HDD 320 GB - DVD_RW __R DL_ - GMA 4500M
Which makes reading the readme file(s) worthwhile, as it is claimed ME1 will not run with Intel GMA graphics chip.

Also, the config utility crashes may be happening just because it's a new computer and you haven't installed the 1.02 patch*. In the contrary to what Grazman is saying, I have already said that several times recently.

* - The fact that the configuration utility with most probably work after patching, the game itself will not. As stated in the readme file, it is expected to fail with a GPF error message.

At this point, we should be able to deduce that the author understood Moondoggie's query about Intel, and consulted his / her game box label.  Let's wish the member luck getting an exchange for something less stressful to play.
