My problem is, that at moment Mass Effect 1 is not working.  Dont know if this has something to do with the
installation of ME2.

==>  Yesterday morning I installed ME2, then ME1 (since it has been 2 years since I played ME1 I want to play it again before ME2, in order to refresh my memory about the story).

==> When I
clicked to install ME1 with the install-menu in german, the program
said: "be sure that you lunch install.exe from the right package" ... or
something like this. I was unable to install it. But when I changed the
install-window to english (by clicking to the canadian marple leaf),
installation was working. But then when I wanted to lunch ME1, it goes
first to configure and then the message appears:

Mass Effect Configuration Utility has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Clicking to "more informations" delivers, that MASSEFFECTCONFIG.EXE is the file which causes the problem.

I
did install ME1 2 times, allways same errrors. I did uninstall
the virus scanner, and with msconfig I disabled in WinXP all not windows
services, as if my windows would be virgin, so that no not-windows
services are running in the background. Does not help. Should I deinstall ME2? I dont know what to do.

my system: core i7, hd 5870, 3GB RAM, XP with service pack 3

First of all, try to apply ME1 1.02 patch after installing it.

I looked at the support pages and theres quite a few people with start up crashes

This one seems to be a working for a fair few:

Open the directory and right-click on the MassEffectLauncher.exe file and selected "Run as Admin" from there.

Also wondering, did you put the save game I gave you into the mass effect save folder before you tried launching it for the very first time?

you guys are great :)

the patch brought the solutions.

I am kind of stupid, that I did not figure it out, that my new graphic card and motherboard and CPU may be unknown to the 2 years old game ....

Yet one riddle is left: How is it possible that you guys respond that quick to my thread? Are you reloading the forum page every 60 seconds? Incredible, Lee did it now the 3rd time in a row ....

Is really cool there are guys like you. That keeps the community alive. I am playing a lot of Unreal Tournament 3, this community there could really really try to copy you guys and take a good example from here.

I am a bit embarrassed about myself about the patch thing. I guess I did use STEAM too long, so I forget to patch non-STEAM-games myself.

He he .... now I cant wait to play ME1 again ... CU later guys :)

Please do not waste time asking anyone a year gone from here anything. If you cannot add a comment to a message thread less than six months since it was buried, then LEAVE THE CORPSE in the ground! Do not Necro the really old stuff this way. Thank you.

Official website. Get both patches, the 1.01a and 1.02. Install 1.01a first.
