So here I am thinking I would never use a digital download company for a game that is so awesome as this as for the most part I was worried that I would have to wait a day or 2 after the game comes out just because of the time to download and so  I had the game on preorder at GameStop (at $59) and was almost giddy with having to wait for November 3rd.  I then came across the add for the D2D Digital Deluxe Edition with Prima Guide and saw all the awesome extra content you get with the package including the Grey Warden (which would have cost me $7, th e stone guardian and the items and also the Prima guide (at $20), all for the price of $69.  Wow, nice price I thought as for an extra $10 I could get all of this, but still, I didn't want to wait a few days to get it after release.  Then I noticed at the bottom of the add the following "Buy Dragon Age: Origins Digital Deluxe Edition w/ Prima Guide now. You will go through a brief checkout process, then you will be able to immediately start downloading your bundle. Before you know it you can use your new Dragon Age: Origins Digital Deluxe Edition w/ Prima Guide download!"  Now I am thinking HOLY COW, I can get all of that AND PRELOAD the game.  Check it out if you don't believe me as the add still says it (at least until D2D wises up and tries to change it) at www.direct2drive.com/3/8664/product/Buy-Dragon-Age:-Origins-Digital-Deluxe-Edition-w/-Prima-Guide-Download

So I take the plunge.  When I go to Preload the game, there is not option to do so.  The very next day, on the add there is a new line added in blue at the beginning of the add saying "Dragon Age: Origins Digital Deluxe Edition w/
Prima Guide will be released on November 3, 2009 at 10 AM PDT. Release dates are subject to change without notice." - It wasn't there when I ordered.  Furthermore, there is a no refund policy!

Now I know some would say tough luck and that is always the danger of Digital Downloads, but I feel this is actually false advertisement and bait and switch tactics.  I have put in a request for a refund but I doubt I will get it.  All I want is the company to keep with their posted advertisement but I think in the end I will just have to suck it up. I just wanted others to know and I am hopeful the Bioware can get D2D's act together to offer preload in the US as they offer Preload on the very same deal  in the UK.  :crying:

I don't think there is anything wrong with them... I think your assumption that you could get it early is the mistake you made... kind of a leap before you look. Regardless of what was or wasn't in the add (truthfully I didn't even look) it is pretty much common sense...

With all the info that game comes out 3rd Nov. you thought you can play it right away?

Really?

LOL. Oh yea. I'm at fault because I actually believed what is plainly written in the add. Read it first and then you can accuse me of leaping before I looked. As described above, that is the last thing I did.  And no, I didn't think the game would come out early, but that it was allowing a preload like most other digital downloads and the UK version as I explained above.

Well that sucks man. I think you where a bit to naive. Plain believing what you read isn't that smart.

But yeah it's kinda sad that the world is that way but that's another topic..

You should just wait for a response but I doubt you will get a refund =(

Yeah, besides the Digital Edition's still pretty awsome. What's wrong with playing on the release date? :S Imo playing early than the release date isn't fair...

He didn't think he could play it early. He thought he could pre-load it. I.e. download a locked version that unlocks on the release date, thus allowing him to download before the release date so that he can just play on the release date instead of waiting to download it first.

As much as you can ridicule and chastise him for believing what he read, it's not his fault the company either was lazy and used the text of another download, or was giving false advertisement. Sadly, this sort of tactic isn't illegal, but it is unethical. I would send them an email asking what the deal was, and if they say that they never offered such a thing and you have a screenshot of the offer, then I would both send an email with a complaint to Bioware customer service and the better business burea. The last thing bioware wants is a company misrepresenting their product, and as such losing customers in the long run.

I still think people are not understanding what preload is. Just for clarification, preloading is downloading the majority of files before the release date but not all of them. This is done to allow you to play the game on release date since the file that will be download could be up to 20 gigabytes and take from 5 to 20 hours to download depending on your speed. On the day of release you then get the final files (a much smaller file). This allows you to complete the download of the product on the release date and saves you from not being able to play because you waited for release date and then you had a day of downloading. This lets those that preorder digitally also enjoy the game at the same time as those who get the disk, not before the release date.
I can even wait (though it will kill me :) ) but my point is Truth in Advertising is the issue here and just wanted to save anyone else if this is an issue. I am hopeful that there will be a resolution in the next few days with D2D anyways.

Holy Mortar, do you know where that link is as I have searched high and low about the US D2D preload and can only find that the UK has one. Thanks.

I find it interesting that people are so quick to jump on the OP about being 'wise' and to use 'common sense'.

True, the ad does indicates the item is a pre order, and will be made available at a certain date, but it also states:

"Buy Dragon Age: Origins Digital Deluxe Edition w/ Prima Guide now. You will go through a brief checkout process, then you will be able to immediately start downloading your bundle. Before you know it you can use your new Dragon Age: Origins Digital Deluxe Edition w/ Prima Guide download!"

Unless I am mistaken, the above means you can download, and use the item in question immediately. If this is not the case, then this is false advertising and the OP has a case for getting a refund.

You probably can still get a refund. I was able to get one a while back. Just email them. Honestly though - many digital distributors allow preloading and it may yet still happen.

The digital collectors is awesome either way. Look at all the stuff you get !

That is exactly the case. I would personally hound them for a refund.

In Australia, and from where I am (NSW), it is actually illegal for retailers to be misleading in advertising.
If we are sold goods that do not meet the criteria for which it is advertised, we have avenues to pursuit such matters.

Yes, it's illegal to offer one thing and give another, but at least in the US, it is not illegal to offer a method of giving you that product and then give it to you with another method, as long as the first method was not extra money.

Note[/b]: You will only be able to use the Dragon Age: Origins guide on the computer you first install it on. Reloading Windows or formatting is also considered a second computer install and will disable your guide. Please feel free to print out your Dragon Age: Origins guide[/b].

This is why I don't like D2D. Bought Temple of Elemental Evil something like three computers ago, tried four times to go trough all the hassle of reactivating my download rights, gave up after waiting 40 min on the phone each time.

The OP is right and in Canada, False advertising IS illegal.  I think the preload's supposed to start like three days ahead of release.

You can get a refund until it goes live. Just send them a message through the support center.

It says that same thing at the bottom of every single Direct 2 Drive page. Every single one. Every single preorder AND game already available for sale has that at the bottom. It's there for when the game goes live. Just....take a minute to become familiar with the layout of the pages on the site. Every preorder says that at the bottom.

That's D2D's fault, not the OP's fault. It's simply just lazy site layout on their part. Lazy site layout that results in false advertising.

If you don't read the order page thoroughly that is the CUSTOMERS fault.  Not D2D.  I purchased DAO from D2D as well, and I actually took the time to read through all the information.  That is called being a "smart consumer".

And OP, instead of posting this on the forums you should be asking for your money back from D2D if you're so outraged.  They might give you your money back, although it says "No EA purchases will receive a refund" as well.  I'm sure you didn't bother to read that either.

Naelven,

You talk about reading the advertisement completely yet you obviously didn't read my post as it says specifically what the advertisement says at the bottom and the little blue comment at the top was added after I made the purchase. Additionally, I state that I have sent in a request for a refund (READ the post before commenting Mr. "I read everything and am a smart consumer")

AFAIK there isn't a single service providing a preload option ATM, EAstores preload should start 3/5 days before launch, I guess it'll be around that time for D2D as well.
