I know! I know! Ahem!

We DON'T!

Well not completely defeat them. Figure after you destroy the entire race of immortal machines what's the next big bad there is to fight. What can top that? Anyone? Anyone? (crickets chirping).

We want more ME, it maybe the end of Shepard's story but can you imagine a ME universe without the threat of annihilation from the reapers? It'd be like Star Wars without the Sith. Or WoW without the threat of Sargeras and the Burning Legion. There will be other villains, sure, but in the end I can only see total defeat of the reapers occuring once BW is done with the ME franchise.

So in my opinion in ME3 we'll probably drive them back but I don't see BW letting go of the reaper threat, especially when you can lock them away nicely in dark space or something. And if BW goes that route then some of the options on how we will defeat the reapers are already off the table:

- Can't destroy all of them through military might (that'd be a bit difficult anyway - I recall a BIG armada at the end of ME2)

Actually that's the only option I can think of that BW can't really do. And barring the virus idea that's been done to death... hehe.

Could pull a Force Unleashed.

"Use your biotic power! Control the reaper with your mind, throw it out of the galaxy!" (snickers)

Edit: or on a somewhat more serious note, maybe somehow use the mass effect relays to send them catapulting into an unknown place. Its not necesarrily a virus. Just when they decide they've had enough of earth and they go to use the Sol relay to attack the Citadel, we somehow reprogram the relay and they unknowingly get sent to Scottsdale or something.

No idea on how to stop them but in the end you will probably have to make a big ol' moral decision on wether or not to let the Reapers get away after repelling their assault of Earth/Galaxy. Or destroy the Earth and the Reapers.

Also, you shouldn't leave the Collector Base, because that is the first thing the reapers will conquer, and they will have a bunch of indoctrinated slaves inside it already!

One thought I've had is that YOU CANNOT DEFEAT THEM! Not because they're too powerful, but because their 10,000 year invasions somehow keeps stars from burning out due to all that dark energy scanners kept bringing up in ME2. That way Shepard has to battle his/her worst enemies yet, ENVIRONMENTALISTS!

The Reapers are not all powerful, just powerful. You over estimate their power, just as Saren did. They can be killed. ME1 proved it. A fleet of large enough size will be able to fight them off since they will, like Sovereign, be 'low' on power (this is why they hibernate, to save power for the culling) having to use their second entry option (whatever that may be) to get into the galaxy which most likely draws a crap ton of power. Obviously they use the Citadel as a short cut to save power because they are not gods or all powerful, they just act like they are.

ME3 will be you gathering that fleet, that should be the whole point of the game I'm guessing. You over estimate the Reapers.

Edit: And I'd say the way you go at the end of ME2 (as in what you do or don't give to someone) will have an impact on the amount of the fleet that you build that makes it at the end of ME3.

Kinetic barriers do not stop lasers or slow-moving objects.
So:

- launch nunclear missiles, equiped with retro-trusters that slow them enough prior to impact to pass trough the kinetic barriers.

- equip all of your marines with sealed space armor and a jetpack. Give them a big gun and a hend held nuke. Let them swarm the reapers like ants and get into them.

- laser defense platforms. Each with one very powerfull laser. S***loads of them. All placed around the mass relay.

- nanites designed to eat metal. Have a countermesure ready before releasing them...

BEST ... IDEA ... EVER!

I don't really want this to be used as the way the reapers are destroyed, but I want this hidden as an Easter egg in the game in some way ... maybe one of the Normandy crew (who happens to look strangely like Jeff Goldblum) is working in the background behind Joker and pulls out an Omnitool with a certain fruit symbol hidden in the interface. :)

I got it. The best ever solution to the Reaper problem.

Turn the Reapers into dancing Twi'leks.

Talking about destructive forces of the universe, how 'bout making it so that the Reapers exit a relay into a black hole. Nearly impossible to pull off, though... timing, gravity and all that crap.

Ultimate renegade option due to research on dark matter causing instability in suns you manage with some alien tech to make sol go supernova early collapse into a black hole and drag the whole sol system into its maw.

All the reapers invading earth are gone but so is mankinds home system, we are now amongst the stars as a handful of colonies so it's lucky we stomped the collectors in ME2.

Yes I know sols too small to form a black hole but techmagic man mass effect has it.

could use element zero to create a blackhole for them to be devoured in, or a bigger version of the blackstorm heavy weapon as a cannon upgrade on a ship...  or they could make a weaponized mass relay that doesn't accelerate objects into hyper space yet punch blackholes into space (without bridging it with another blackhole to become a wormhole... )

as long as no innocent lives are caught up in it...

Except that Reaper mass effect fields would allow them to resist the black hole unless they were pretty much inside it.

We'll find some way to collapse the Reaper indoctrination field, which will create chaos in the Reaper as billions of programs created from previously ascended races lose cohesion and control, allowing us to blast them to smithereens with our new thanix cannons.

It could go the other way, though, and give them even more incentive to wipe out our species:lol:
