tbh, i don't find the ME universe all that convincing when all the relevant alien species are bipedal humanoids whose mouth parts all miraculously evolved to be physically capable of speaking the human language.
Regarding the ability io communicate, it is through Translators.
The lip-sync, maybe so that it is easy on the eyes as you play.

oh ok, i didn't know that. they all had subtlely different voices, so i assumed they didn't have translators; otherwise, i thought they would all sound like microsoft sam or something.

MAybe the translator can imitate the voice? Although it´s just it would be too boring most characters with the same voice. Plus the stereo effect of listening to the actual individual and the translation.

i think it's a double standard. you can't have it one way and not the other.
if no lady aliens with boobs are allowed, then no tall funny well-dressed guys for the ladies.
That sounds fair. Sure bring it on!
I romance thane with my renegade Shepard not because he looks vaguely human but because he is fairly sentient and the game allowed it to happen.

true, no human female would ever find an elcor, hanar, vorcha, or volus attractive (i think), but the flip side is also true (i hope), i don't think a human guy could ever find a female volus attractive, even if she has 36 DDs and long blonde hair.
There isn't a flip side yet because they don't exist yet. I would completely agree with you if they did but they don't. As it stands, there are male aliens that have been made that were not modeled on what women consider attractive, it was not a primary concern in their design . Whereas Asari and quarians (who are so far the only existing female aliens in the universe) have both been modeled on what human men would be attracted to. I don't feel entitled enough to expect everything male on the screen to only be hawt and I don't expect every design to focus on that aspect primarily all the time either. All I want to see is variety not a ban on alien breasts all together. So far , female aliens lack that variety.
i still think the base reasoning behind the movement for "no alien boobs!" is that people are offended that bioware is trying to sexy up the aliens solely for catering to the young male demographic. and sure, bioware is obviously catering, otherwise samara the super cop wouldn't be walking around with super boobs
You acknowledge that they are obviously catering to one group of people so why are you surprised when the demographics they do side line and ignore speak up about it? When you are part of the group they cater to of course you think everyone else is being whiney because you don't see the problem. I don't think you understand that difference between "can I see a female alien that's different please" vs " I hate boobs on aliens, no alien should have any" We have two main species that bare a strong resemblance to human women already so doesn't it make sense for people to want to see something different?
i'm just saying, if people are really going to cry foul about bioware sexying up their ME games, they need to take a look at the biggest offenders first (I'm thinking of miranda in her ho outfit and jack in pretty much no outfit). even if garrus gets breast implants, no one is gonna look at him when Miranda is strutting around.
Its not people are mad that they sex up characters , its that it seems the prime concern for anything female being made is whether or not the male demographic will tolerate it asthetically. I don't care that some characters are modeled that way, its only when that's all I seem to see is when it gets very tedious and predictable. Variety is all I ask for. I don't believe for a second that all male gamers are going to throw tantrums and have meltdowns if a new female alien is designed without anything humanly attractive about them. I'd like to think that the majority of the male demographic would be mature enough to able to handle it, especially if they still have eye candy to look at anyway. I would personally find it insulting if other people thought the only way a male character could be presented to me (or the only way I would be interested in him or find him relevant) is if he was hawt. Like I couldn't handle anything else because I expect it all the time. Don't know about you but that would offend me.

Are they serious?
I would atleast expect som kind of alternation between female and male but that could just be any male in the batch you just shot in ME2.
No no, not all females are "feminine" among humans either and so on but it just feels bit simple. Garrus or Nihlus could be female for all I know right now from that picture. I know they aren't but still.

As far as the "not a mammal so shouldn't have breasts" thing goes... there are animals out there that have traits which defy their categorisation. Echidnas lay eggs, for example.
In a fictional universe, you'd have to have some kind of hangup to get so wound up about such a thing.

Turain aren't avian or reptilian. They are an alien species, the rules on Earth do not apply for them.
People seem to forget this. I love when people use "they are avian" in their arguments. Mammal/reptile/birds are earth species. A "bird analog" which evolved on a different planet would not be built biologically like a earth bird, even if it was superficially the same shape. Similarly, the rachni are not "real" insects, we just associate them as such.
Besides, any alien species can break any rule of realism they want to in the ME universe, thanks to the asari. I say bring on the chest-plate-boob-analogs.

i'm relatively new to these forums, and i noticed in this female turian
thread, people are exclaiming how glad they are that female turians
don't seem to have boobs. who gives a crap if the female turians have
boobs or not.
Breasts are a defininig characersitic of mammals on Earth. They are a feature of our species, but they are were not essential for our succes as a species. That is to say, there's no reason why aliens would have them, except that they were designed specifically to look appealing to modern human males. In ME1 Asari looked so human it was sickening, they are literally a human body with head tentacles and blue skin. The probability that such a thing would occur is staggeringly low, and their design is completely awful and poorly thought out. It is not just Turian females people complain about, we've had threads about how terrible the Asari are many times in the past. They are by far the worst offenders.
if people are really concerned about sexiness in a video game, i'd be
more concerned with the human women who are, you know, running around in
a ****'s uniform with f me boots (miranda) or that bald chick who is
pretty much topless for all intents and purposes.
Yeah, um, we do. Like, all the time. There have been, without exaggeration, dozens of threads on that exact topic, and every time there's a "what do you want in ME3?" thread, "get the squadmates to wear armor on missions please" is one of the most repeated sentiments.
i mean, you don't hear guys ****ing about thane looking startlingly
human for a guy with green skin. you don't hear people crying "Oh, why
does thane have those big soulful eyes and smashing clothes and a nice
trim human male build! Why couldn't they make Thane a squashed-faced
frog who wears paisley suspenders and goes ribbit every other sentence!"
Yeah that'd be because having eyes similar to a human and dextrous limbs are necessary for a species filling the same evolutionary niche as a human on their respective planet. If it was just a frog it never could have developed technology in the first place. There are good evolutionary reasons why they would develop in roughly humanoid shapes, and there are plenty of aliens who fit that criterion but don't look anything like humans, so the fact that there are a couple of that do isn't jarring.
You also don't hear guys ****ing about legion, you don't hear "OH MAN,
legion looks like a big buff dude, only he's a metal dude instead of a
flesh dude, goddamn, I just KNOW he could outbench me in the gym, i feel
so trivialized and threatened by that big hunk of man steel.
WHY bioware, why couldn't you make Legion a toaster on wheels armed with
laser turrets? WHY WHY WHY?"
Now you're just getting silly.
so in conclusion, boobs on aliens are fine, and give me pitne for over thane any day.
Boobs on aliens are a mamalian trait that is unnecessary for the development of a star-faring species (unlike, say, fingers). Their inclusion for no reason other than obvious pandering to 15 year old boys makes them not only unnecessary, but tasteless. There should be maybe one species other than humans that has them, max, and they shouldn't be attractive to humans because look at the damn variation on boobs in our own mammalian relatives! Most of them are NOT attractive, at all. It's just humanoid breasts specifically!
