i'm relatively new to these forums, and i noticed in this female turian thread, people are exclaiming how glad they are that female turians don't seem to have boobs. who gives a crap if the female turians have boobs or not. if people are really concerned about sexiness in a video game, i'd be more concerned with the human women who are, you know, running around in a ****'s uniform with f me boots (miranda) or that bald chick who is pretty much topless for all intents and purposes. tali is a freaking nun compared to those two.

i mean, you don't hear guys ****ing about thane looking startlingly human for a guy with green skin. you don't hear people crying "Oh, why does thane have those big soulful eyes and smashing clothes and a nice trim human male build! Why couldn't they make Thane a squashed-faced frog who wears paisley suspenders and goes ribbit every other sentence!"

You also don't hear guys ****ing about legion, you don't hear "OH MAN, legion looks like a big buff dude, only he's a metal dude instead of a flesh dude, goddamn, I just KNOW he could outbench me in the gym, i feel so trivialized and threatened by that big hunk of man steel. WHY bioware, why couldn't you make Legion a toaster on wheels armed with laser turrets? WHY WHY WHY?"

or garrus, for that matter. you dont hear guys crying, "WHY IS GARRUS FUNNY? i'm not funny, yet he is? freaking bioware, everyone knows that human women love funny guys! i can't believe bioware would stoop so low and pander to the lowest common denominator! and not to mention, why is he so tall? human women love tall guys, really, bioware, how can you be so transparent! and why does he have an ass? asses are too sexy, just cut that crap out. i think garrus should be a bitter angry 5 foot tall penguin with a concave butt and a scouter."

so in conclusion, boobs on aliens are fine, and give me pitne for over thane any day.

Male fans complain about boobs on female aliens because they think it will make female fans more likely to let them touch their boobs.

I complain about boobs on female aliens because it makes no sense that an alien species has the same sexual characteristics as a human. That also applies to males.

I find aliens human enough that we can intuitively empathize with them, read their body language and feel sexual attraction to them ridiculous. The breasts are just the most obvious symptom. Aliens shouldn't be "hot" to the average human. Even where they're humanoid in shape, they should have an alien body language, we shouldn't be able to intuit their emotions from their facial expressions and their movements, and the idea of having sex with them should be at least somewhat creepy.

And you are an expert on alien species?

And you are an expert on alien species?

You only need to know something about the evolution of sexual attraction and the ability to read body language and intuitively empathize with another to know how ridiculously implausible the idea is. These trait exists because of interaction, not the other way round. There would be no sexual attraction without sexual interaction, and no ability to read body language and empathize without social interaction. Social interaction results in cooperation, and co-operation is a survival advantage. Therefore, the human species has evolved methods to interact better.

An alien species would have developed their own body language, methods of empathizing and sexual attraction triggers. Occasionally there may be some overlap with humans, but since such overlap would be completely random within a set of almost infinite possibilities, it should be extremely rare. Aliens would be stranger and harder to read than all animal species with which the human species has had regular interaction in its history, and sexual attraction to aliens should be considerably more rare than sexual attraction to those animal species.

You could argue that blue-skinned space babes and other sexually attractive species should be in the game because everyone wants them and plausibility be damned. While I'd not agree, I'd have to admit it's a valid point to make. But don't tell me such things are justifiable without positing explanations that raise more problems than they solve, for instance that alien species have been engineered to be socially and sexually compatible with humans.

This thread is going nowhere. Nobody can actually know what aliens will be like. If they have boobs and look "startlingly human" who the hell cares. Its certainly possible, and its just as equally improbable. There's no use arguing over it.

Why do I complain?

Because it doesn't make sense. Even in mammals, our closest relatives, breasts vary greatly in shape and dimension, yet, creatures that have *nothing* to do with us share a strangely similar bodyplan, to the point of sharing two meaty breasts in the upper chest?!

That's just ridiculous, and completely breaks immersion for me. It's also why I hate Asari, Drell and pretty much every Star Wars/Trek alien species.

Also, Ieldra's logic pretty much explains what I'm trying to say, only so much better it isn't even funny.

You seem to be assuming that aestetics (and body language) are arbitrary and have no mathematical components or ties to other survial traits. Bit of an assumption there.

Firstly, ibtl.

Secondly, the Borg Queen was not hot imo. She looked spiky and unhealthy and maybe smelly too. Seriously, look at my name. I would know.

As I asked the other poster, which of those other species are considered on the same order as humans? Which of them is also tech using to any significant degree or has the potential to develop into a space faring race any time soon?

Using other animals as examples out of context to all other aspects of their natures does not make a strong arguement.

I honestly couldn't care less. I mean, most aliens look human because that's the only shape we can identify ourselves with. Non-humanoid aliens are good too but until we actually meet real aliens don't expect this sci-fi trope to dissapear just like that.

I for one am glad because they are ALIENS. It is unrealistic for every alien to look roughly the same. Yes, I wish the aliens looked a bit MORE alien. Guys and girls. An argument I posed to my roommate the other day: You don't need boobs to be a female. Mammory glands, yes, and nipples yes. But not boobs. Thinks dogs, for example. I don't care if females look sexy or not. If the female turian wants to strut around in Miranda's outfit, I couldn't care less. But I feel like realistically, aliens won't all be that similar to humans.

This.

Also would like to note I haven't met a female gamer who has a real problem with breasts or sex in video games, so long as they aren't over the top. This is a mature game after all.

If I were to get a mastectomy, I'd still be a female. You don't need mammary glands and you don't need nipples. Female birds lack mammary glands as do female fish, lizards, amphibians, and plants.

I complain about boobs on alien women because I believe using the same old tired gender tropes and secondary sexual characteristic as humans use is lazy. Women in games already just about always have to have the same body shape, it's depressing and boring for aliens to have to adhere to that too.
Want a female? Well make it smaller and slap some boobs on it! It's the only way to know! and we absolutely MUST be able to tell the female aliens from the male at a glance or our heads might explode! Just look at the people complaining the female turian isn't 'feminine' or slender enough.
I watch a lot of sci-fi and fantasy. A LOT. and I get tired of sexual dimorphism in aliens/made up races always going the exact same way, don't even get me started on aliens where the males are big ugly brutes and the females are human women with a body shape you'd find in a swim suit mag with a bit of face paint slapped on.
All of my hate.

Sorry, I'm not here looking for a discussion, just to post an opinion and why I have it.

Still, I'll indulge for a bit.
You're actually making an allegation that, in order to have the technological achievements to go into space you *must* have your physical traits and even secondary sexual characteristics equal to that of us? Is that really what you are implying? Please tell me there was something lost in my interpretation...
I mean, I understand these aliens having a bipedal stance and fairly humanoid shape with a head design capable of transmiting human emotions; it's about being having a way of making the audience empathise better with these characters and reduce animation costs, but going to the point of even sharing secondary sexual characteristics is immersion breaking.

As for the other point, what is, exactly, out of context? Using our closest genetic relatives to make a point about how unlikely it is to find secondary sexual characteristics in species that don't even share as much as one quarter of our DNA when animals with as much as 80% of it don't? In case you didn't notice, that's directly related to what is being debated.

In fact, if you can provide a solid argument on how a pair of enlarged mammaries positioned on the frontal upper half of the torso has a direct connection to technological development, I'll concede my stance.

Of couse, were that to be so, why don't chimps build spaceships and venture off into space? By your logic, they should have already. Hmm... maybe, just maybe secondary sexual characteristics really don't have anything to do with technological development and therefore bear no consequence in how a species can reach space...

Still, feel free to reply.
