Hey don't judge. Grammer and Spelling doesn't have a correlation with intelligence, just so you know!

That said, I am almost certain that the Maker as described by the Chantry does not exist. There are too many provably inconsistances (such as where are all the souls of the unbelievers lost in the fade as Morrigan points out).
I fully expect my Hawke to teach the Chantry the meaning of "the pointed end of the stick" and I'll leave it at that.

I'll probably help the chantry if given the choice but I'll also try to either get rid of our greatly lessen the Templar's control on Kirkwall, but this is only concerning my canon playthrough.

You know we'll never find out. It kind of defeats the point of having a fictional religion if we meet the God of it. But I imagine my Hawkes' will range from pro-chantry to tolerant of it. Maybe a Mage that wants a lot less control, but I'm personally not interested in the concept of tearing down the establishment just because it's there.

There could be another explanation, for all we know the Ashes' powers could be due to Tevinter Blood Magic.Riloux wrote...
I think in this game, he does. The Urn of Sacred Ashes cured the Arl, did it not?

Oghren says that the mountain contains an absurdly large and pure lyrium vein.

And frankly, if it does, it doesn't matter. It shunned humanity for worshipping other gods, then it shunned them for entering the golden city, then it shunned them for killing andraste.
It shuns so much it probably never actually interacts with the world.

He does sound a bit of a drama queen.
@OP We'll never know for certain imho. You'll have to take the information given in game and make up your own mind.
Oh to answer the actual question to asked and not just the topic title...
Dunno. Will have to wait and see how its presented to me in game. From Origins perspective I see it as more superstition and fear mongering but DA2 may change that.
