Hello,
Thank you for writing to Electronic Arts customer support.
We
are really sorry for the inconvenience caused to you. We will pass the
information you have provided to the development team. Regretfully we do
not have information on if or when a fix will be put in place. They are
however collecting data from the community and are examining solutions
if they determine enough customers have the problem and the problem is
technically addressable with a patch, or if a work around is possible.
Certainly
development will use the information gathered to ensure that this
problem does not occur in future releases, however it is impossible to
guarantee that this will ever be fixed in the current version. If you
are not interested in tracking this issue on the message board, please
know that you will automatically be notified if an official solution to
this problem in the form of a work around or patch is discovered.
In
the mean time, I am notifying my supervisor that you have an unresolved
problem that we have no fix for. We at EA customer service make every
attempt to resolve each issue, but sometimes a resolution is simply not
possible due to problems beyond our control. For your inconvenience,
please accept my personal apology that this problem negatively affected
you.
In addition you may also visit at : http://www.systemreq...tslab.com/cyri/ to check whether the game will run or not with the system configuration.
If there is anything else we can help you with please let us know.
Thank you,
Phillip

Phillip,
Thank you for your response. I'll just give the list of things I have attempted to do to get ME running on my Win7 system:
1. Initial install from EA - Tried running, did not make it past launcher.
1a. Ran as administrator - did not make it past launcher.
1b. Ran in Win XP (SP2) mode - launcher.
2.
Installed patch 1.01 - Made it in game, attempted to adjust screen
setting, crashed to desktop and could not get past launcher again.
2a+b. Ran as admin then if Win XP mode - launcher.
3.Uninstalled both base install and patch.
4. Retried 1 and two.
5. Installed 1.02 and Bring Down the Sky - not past the launcher.
To
clarify I've done all of this while trying to use the launcher and by
going into the game's Binary file and launching the game's exe
separately. I have also done a roll back and an update on my video
drivers and have restarted my system more than a few times.
My
big question is, although I realize I've probably wasted my money on
Mass Effect, I am still a huge fan of Bioware's games and still want to
try Mass Effect 2, even if I don't have the option of carrying forward a
saved game file from the first game. Should I invest in ME2? or will I
just be giving EA more of my money and not having anything to show for
it?
EA Support is kinda useless... Cannot get past launcher.

Intel Pentium D Dualcore 2.8Ghz
4 GB DDR2 RAM
ATI Radeon HD 3600 1GB - Driver 8.971
Microsoft Windows 7 64bit rev 7600
DirectX 10
Logitec USB Sound - Driver 6.1.7600.16385
My issue is a big one, I can't get past the launcher, and loading direct from the exe in the Binary file does nothing as well.
Edit: I Digital Downloaded my copy from EA.

So you split things up, even said you were doing so, and I missed that, so I edited what I was writing. As long as this just amounted to a placeholder, the next day I have now seen that Kloreep picked up on something I ignored, first time around.
That reference to the System Requirements Lab from the idiot in EA's support department. When any service of that nature appears to anyone to be the only way to do something that really seems so very easy to me, that is the worst of all of them to try, because it is wrong so often.
There are several, of which only Microsoft's is dead on accurate, but it is strictly limited to their own games. Next best is the Game-o-Meter at YouGamer.Com

Not only did he not ask, but EA has my specs on file as they do for all of there customers I do believe.
I'll edit too, and yes... needed to get the vent part of my post done so I could stop my hands from shaking at his stupidity so I could track down my system specs.

You split yours in parts. I saw what you wrote at first. Looking at what you were wriring second that overlapped with what I thought I might ask, I didn't see anything there (at first) that says it's a hardware thing, but now, I spotted something really messed up. You are running a video driver about as old as Windows 7 is, and while you do have a relatively elderly Radeon in there, you need to update that driver "some", at least.

I ran an update from the windows menu for the driver, but will try one from ATI's site, and while my GPU is a little on the older side, so is the game and I pass the recommended for video.

Agreed, whichever HD 36n0 you have is above the "Practical" minimum. The official system requirements are total crap with regard to video, however.
Video Card:
NVIDIA GeForce 6 series (6800GT or better: 210, 310, 7100, 7200, 7300, 7400, 7500, 7600 GS, 8200, 8300, 8400 GS, 8500, 9100, 9200, & 9300 are below minimum system requirements)
ATI Radeon X1650 or better (X1300, X1300 Pro, *X1550*, HD 2400, HD 3100, HD 3200, HD 3450, HD 3470, HD 4200, HD 4250, HD 4350, HD 4550, and (probably) HD 5450 are below minimum system requirements)
(That's my paraphrasing, based on the ME-2 requirements.)
P. S. If you are running an Asus graphics card or mainboard, be advised that two of the softwares they include with their drivers are not compatible with this game.

I have and use Asus mainboards here. One program you don't want is the "Game Doctor"; you'll have to do a google for the other one. Point it back into here with a site redirector and have it look for asus to find out whatever it is. It's probably included with graphics more than with motherboards. Both of them affect DAO and Mass Effect 1 & 2, and I think, Fallout 3.

EA told you to use SR Labs? I was going to post "damn, Gorath is going to have a fit" but I see he restrained himself.

What virus scanner are you using? There is a known issue with Kaspersky and games using the Unreal 3 engine that stops the game from working.
I had this issue myself.
