 I really
liked Anders in awakening, but I am not sure I would like him as a companion
here since I don´t think he left on my endings....or he did but for a little
while (2 months?) and then came back. I am unsure about other endings... I
mean, I understand that I will be playing Hawke but since the games are connected
I wouldn’t like something to tear that connection apart

I hope its not anders personally... while I liked his personality I didn't find him to be a 'deep' character.

Although I guess if he was one it would be a chance for Bioware to delve deeper with him... but I still think I'd prefer other past DA characters to be included if we were to have one before Anders

Gaider said that that would be the whole point of bringing back old party members:

In any case, that would mean a potential three DAO characters as companions. I think that's way too much. I want new companions, not a bunch of my old ones. What would be the point as playing Hawke, in a new country, with a new story, if I'm just bringing the same people.

Any character who was previously a party member that we bring back as a party member again will be because we thought there was more to explore with them.

Minor characters from DAO, such as Isabela, are a different situation entirely. You barely got to know them, if at all. To assume that there's nothing more to them than the sliver you encountered is to ignore the fact that we can have whole new stories for them-- and the connection to DAO gives us a nice base to jump off of.

That's not to say that assumptions expressed in this thread are necessarily correct, I'm just saying that I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the idea, if I were you.

Lol.. yeah the "unknown" human mage.

This reminds me of when Oghren was CLEARLY in awakening videos and pictures... but people thought he was a dwarf companion who just so happened to have the same exact hair and beard.

People loved Alistair. Alistair is one of THE toughest characters to bring back as a companion. Near impossible really. Anders is an Alistair wannabe.  In other words it makes sense!

I don't think he looks exactly like Anders, similar sure but not enough to be sure. I still hope its not Anders, I see no reason to bring him back.

Thats EXCATLY what it sounded like when Oghren appeared as an obvious party member in screenshots.

Lol I remember the "I don't think it looks like him" comments!

I agree. Although I don't want said human male to be Anders, it's looking pretty obvious that that guy is Anders. Not getting a confirmation usually doesn't mean too much, but not getting a denial is rather telling.

I loved Anders as a character. But I 'd rather have a different human male as a companion for Hawke.

If it isn't Anders than that means we have another Theiren look a like on our hands. Maybe its Anders long lost twin brother who happens to be a mage

It can't be anders considering that I think one or more possible endings involve Anders staying in the Grey Wardens.

If there really is only one party member left to be revealed. (pretty likely there is only one more, but you never know). I was rather surprised they put Isabela in as a companion (I never thought of having minor characters show up as full fledged companions later on). Same with Merrill. Though it is nice to have the tie-ins from DA:O, I think it would be weird to have a fairly major companion from DA:O (Well, Awakenings for Anders) show up as a major companion in another game. Just my personal opinion though. Nothings impossible and everything is possible.

As any other final compagnon : Secret until we play the game (remember : Death's Hand, Legion, Theyrn Logain and others that I don't remember, they were all huge final climax)

So it is confirmed all of the companions are manly women and ugly final fantasy types?

No, so far we've had Varric, Isabella, Fenris, Sebastian, Carver/Bethany, Merril, and Aveline. We'll let you know if they give us any.

*weighs in again on the Anders front, because, hey, I've got time and repeating myself is so much fun*

1. Being a Hawke companion doesn't mean you have to stop being a Grey Warden. I believe I even read somewhere that there is a Grey Warden quest.

2. He CAN die, but his death is ONLY an epilogue death, and DG has said that can be easily explained away.

3. There are time-skips in the game. Kirwall is quite close to Amaranthine (if you look at a map of Thedas). Both are port towns. There's no reason why Anders can't hop back and forth between the two cities a couple of times during the TEN YEARS of gameplay we're going to get!

4. It looks a LOT like him

5. I want it to be him, so I'm allowed to be hopeful and logical and self-delusional all at the same time :)

It's not that he stops being a Grey Warden, but if I recall, Grey Wardens are not supposed to become involved in political conflicts, which Hawke's story seems to center around. Although, it would be fun watching Anders break those rules. Image IPB

If it is Anders, he will have to disappear on us for a little while, or won't become available until the timeline for Awakening is over.

Awakening is six months after the blight is ended and there is going to be a one year lull when Hawke reaches Kirkwall while Meredith and co don't let her/him in.  Apparently Varric skips this part because it is boring.  Therefore when you actually get into the game Anders should be able to join right in.

@Il Divo I believe there's some sort of Mage/Templar conflict, as well as the whole Qunari thing, so it's entirely possible that it's a political conflict that transcends borders, in which case it would be a threat to the Grey Wardens as well as to everyone else (stopping Grey Wardens from recruiting mages, for example, would be a good enough reason for the First Warden to want whatever is happening to stop).

Public servants all over the world (the real world and probably Thedas as well) are "not supposed to become involved in political conflicts" - it's never stopped anyone. Sophia Dryden's actions are pretty representative of this, although to be fair, she was a politician first and a Grey Warden only under threat of execution. Now that I think of it, Sergeant Kylon doesn't seem to be overly fussed with being politically neutral either.

It's fairly easy to work around that... tons of explainations like the always usefull... you help me I help you situation. Hawke helps Anders kills darkspawn, Anders helps him do whatever it is Hawke needs help doing.

Our Warden ALWAYS seemed to be helping high powered political figures in DA:O... or fighting agianst them. The Arl, the dwarfs, Logian, the tower...

Hmm...so since Hawke and Bethany are apostates...Merrill could be considered an apostate...and Anders...Thats 4 apostates and no "legal" mage in the game. Add Varric and Isabela to the mix, and you end up with a bunch of criminals, really.

not in my awakening playthroughs...the first had Anders leaving for two months to go the circle to give a lecture then returning to the keep NEVER TO LEAVE again...the other had him dead with an arrow through his neck...so if it IS anders then the whole "import save" option is garbage...

Yup, you even get to chose who'll be the next ruler of Ferelden.  I think it's more of Grey Wardens bow to no political power.  But I think they get heavily involved in politics.

Rogues:

Varric

Isabella

Warriors:

Fenris

Aveline

Mages:

Merril

"Anders"

That's our six companions so we have two from each Role. Assuming we don't get more anyways. And not including Bethany/Carver, and Sebastian from the DLC.
