Another thing I'd like to point out: BW reads these complaints, and I BET you that they really regret some of the things they did and did not do, perhaps thinking, "oh that person is right, we should have done this, we should not have done that." But they're never going to admit it because of pride and because as a dev you're supposed to sell the franchise and say it's the best thing since the wheel.

Oh, and EA makes them branch out into comics and iPhone games... they are in a business to make money afterall (if not, Shenmue 3 would be out by now:()

It seems like all this TIM info should have come out before ME2. I hope that doesn't mean he's a huge part of ME3 too

This.  I really hope we don't spend ME3 being a Cerberus patsy like we did in ME2.  I want to get back to working with the Alliance and being with the good guys again, not having to work with the people we were told repeatedly in ME1 were the bad guys.

Perhaps there will be a big reveal with an upcoming DLC, and they don't want to make any announcement of it until a month or two before it is released, as they did with LotSB.  If the past is any indication, BW won't say anything even if the complaints continue.   I know you guys have been patient already, and want some answers, but being patient until the DLC is probably the best option for now.

And a number of us have shown appreciation for the work BW has done on the Mass Effect series and many of us have been constructive.  But after a year of asking questions and only getting ignored, we are frustrated and we are angry.  That's what happens when people get ignored.  We've been patient, we've watched while others have had their questions about their favorite characters answered and we've posed our questions to Bioware in a civil manner and we have developed a number of support groups to show that we appreciate what they have done and what we would like to see without attacking what Bioware has already done.  But we have nothing to show for it except seeing our favorite characters get pushed further and further into the shadows.

The Ash and Kaidan fanbases, on the whole, are a relatively civil bunch.  But we are tired of being ignored after all the work we've done trying to get Bioware's attention. We're only human, after all.  It's to be expected at this point that people are going to start getting sassy about the silence from Bioware.  It may not be the right way of going about it, but that happens when people reach their breaking point.  And many of us are far beyond that point.

Which is odd considering Bethesda (one of their competitors) did exactly that when their new game Skyrim was announced. They were honest and open about the fact that they made mistakes with Oblivion and that their games are not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. There's nothing wrong with admitting you did something wrong or something you really thought was going to work out in fact didn't. If nothing else it shows you're capable of learning from your mistakes and that you actively strive to do better.

Shutting yourself off from any critical opinion and just talking about how great you are only makes people more angry because it comes across as detached from reality and arrogant. Which is exactly how the Mass Effect team looks, they're living in some fantasy world in which nobody likes Kaidan or Ashley and Planet-Scanning is the hottest thing since Farmville. I'd be more wary about buying a product from a bunch of people like that than someone who just came out and said "We screwed up here and here but we're going to try to do better next time".

Listening to the podcast connected some dots in my head and made me wonder if the backstory comic in ME2 PS3 might be a good way to bring new gamers up to speed for ME3 while allowing them to make at least SOME of those decisions in the suicide mission.



Rant incoming:

It'd be interesting to see how they do that. I imagine a straight comic would have to use some of the suicide mission choice mechanics, but also fudge it...i doubt thered be time to encompass ALL of the loyalty and recruitment missions in this comic, at the very least just the recruits and suicide mission, although some of the decisions would probably be a little different in requirement otherwise you'd basically have no loyalty/upgrades which would mean you'd lose like 9 guys by default...with assumed loyalty and upgrades it'd end up being just like 3-5 depending on hold the line or something...i dunno i'm rambling dumbly. whatever they do will probably work.

1) Maybee secretly they do...
2) Bathesda is both a developer and a publisher... they can do whatever they want. BioWare, not so much.

As to what Chris and Mac talked about. I love the idea of moral ambiguity "gray area" in a game, story, movie, comic, whatever. TIM. Is he a bad guy? Is he a good guy? Is he a bit of both? By this interview Walters seems to think that ultimately TIM is a doing what he feels is right at any cost. I don't get that from the game. I got a one dimensional "James Bond villain" that seems bent on putting humans in control. There's nothing inherently wrong w/ that in the game, but I have no sympathy for the guy whatsoever. In order to have well rounded morally ambiguous character you have to sympathize w/ them a bit. I just want to put a bullet in his brain and be done w/ it. I do think Martin Sheen did a great job w/ what he had though. Anyway, my 2 cents on the podcast.

As to the Kaidan/Ash thing, I agree w/ most of the rants. BW is going to do what it wants to do, though.

 Completely understand where you are coming from.  But does it not make sense for the next big DLC to be about the VS? This.  There was a time when a lot of us beleived we'd never have the Liara DLC.  Also, if Shepard rejoins the Alliance in ME3 it makes more sense to have the VS DLC last.  I want to too.

One would think that a VS DLC would be the next logical step, but considering how the VS and the VS fans have been treated lately... many of us are less than optimistic.  I do still hope, though.
